This was a little bit of an investigation into this new coolant and why it went bad. We're actually in the process of building a 2nd rig to test this as well. We need to get to the bottom of this issue.

The longest lasting opaque coolant I have used was the new P1000. I got about 3 months out of the White. It needs to be run frequently you can't just leave it sitting for a month. But yeah, opaque coolants are a pain in the ass for a little extra bling. IMO not worth the tear-down unless you use soft tubing and a test bench.

I used to have a watercooled rig with pastel pink, and it lasted 6 months fine, it was mayhems fluid, though it did was stain all the blocks and pipe. My dad's currently has mayhems pastel white and it seems to be splitting a little, but nothing too bad, its just a small amount of transparent fluid sitting on top in the res, but it disappears when the system is powered on. Though for both we used a mayhems blitz kit to clean everything before putting any fluid in. I think running it might have helped. Mixed metals is also a very bad thing to do imo, even if the fluid says it can do it.
@GearSeekers
@GearSeekers 5 жыл бұрын
First of all the loop was cleaned properly lol. I've built hundreds of them. Secondly this fluid is designed to be run with mixed metals. The colour change is due to the way the coolant was created. It's not like Mayhems at all. The reason why Thermaltake asked us to do this test is because I know what I'm talking about lol.

@@GearSeekers You seem pretty defensive, I wasn't saying that you built it wrong, having watched a lot of your videos I don't really question your ability to build computers :) I was just putting my own experience here, as you presented a worst case scenario. I agree they are less reliable than clear fluids, and always will be purely because there is no such thing as an opaque liquid. I'm interested to see how the second one goes 🙃

It's one of two things: bleaching of the organic dye, if the color is dye based, the conjugation of the bonds are changing and its shifting the absorbance spectrum into the UV. likely this is a cross reaction between the dye and other dye molecules or other stabilizing agents within the mixture. The other thing it could be is particle agglomeration. If the color is from nano particles suspended in the mixture, if those particles stick together, it changes the absorbance profile of the solution. This can happen very easily if there is a change in pH, which can happen from components leaking ion.

Old video and idk if this has been said but is it possible the binding agent and pigment need motion to keep it mixing and when it sat for so long it separated and the pigment faded which would mean 6 months maybe with regular usage but only a month if it just sits

The only thing I noticed was the soft tubing was a little cloudy when I did the flush. With the coolant in there you cannot even notice. I do monitor it and make sure everything looks good and my system does run a lot. It has held up well I plan on using it in my new computer once I get it done. The reason for the coolant sinking and leaking is most likely a bad seal. Either it wasn't tightened enough or the rubber seal broke or got misaligned. This would let air slowly in, allowing the water in the reservoir to rise until it got to the top, where no more air really got in, so leakage was very slow. I have no idea why the discoloration happened.

Thanks for bringing us the not-so-glamorous stuff mate. From what I can recall the red pigment more likely to "go off" perhaps someone else can fill us in on the specifics. Certainly some sort of chemical or biological reaction going on if the loop has pressurised to the point it has leaked half a res worth of fluid. For all the good work they do, Thermaltake hasn't yet got the best reputation for stable fluids, hopefully it's something they can square away.

So far almost every channel that represents fluid cooling systems, have a huge maintenance routine especially for opaque fluids. WTD? Why would anyone that spends hundreds of $ on a rad gaming system want to then spend all their time maintaining a system they could and should be playing instead? I just don't get it unless it's like a separate Bobbie in itself constantly cleaning, changing or just plain dickering with a system. It's bigger than my motorcycle cooling system. I'm not harping, I just don't get it. I've seen people spend more on the cooling system than their mobo, CPU, mem and monitor then constantly rebuild and maintain it with more and more $ they could be using on their base CPU hardware, weird!
