Had the exact same things happen to me. The most stressful part is when late rent comes into play. The balance between friendship and finances was really uncomfortable.

I've lived with roommates 3 times. 3 years in college; about 6 months living with a coworker; and 5 months living with a friend, her son, her boyfriend, her boyfriend's brother, and another friend of hers. Never again. The first one was awkward because it was a 1br apartment. He got the living room, I got the bedroom. #2 was good, we each had our own room, so we had plenty of privacy. #3 was the disaster it sounds like. Never again.

Yeah, I have a feeling with my friends I'd come home to penises drawn all over my alter, because they've done it on a smaller scale. Luckily he finds them entertaining so encourages their antics.
@fnomore333
@fnomore333 2 жыл бұрын
@@uta6280 oh no! I'm not EXACTLY sure what you're talking about, but penis drawings are definitely a major part of roommate activities when you're college age-ish😂.... I can't tell you how many friends I had a good pause in our friendship bc we lived together.. my mom took in all my friends growing up, so by the time I moved out on my own, I'd already lived with half my friends and just knew better than to ever try.... One of my best friends got so annoyed with each other we would only commune in the living room when we got bored to play golf on the old PS2... This was back when the PlayStation 2 was actually the newest 😂... We would play games, be cordial for a few moments, partake in the dubage, and then start fighting and go back to our separate quarters😂.... One of the SWEETEST of my guy friends and I got so annoyed, he actually spit his sandwich on me😂🤣🤣🤣.. And we didn't even have bills to worry about bc it was my mom's, so I can't imagine throwing finances in the mix.... Just a recipe for disaster.. . ppl you thought you spent 24/7 with, you still always had your own space and breaks from each other... So just be careful... Especially if you have something like an alter that could be disrespected... I really don't know much, if anything at all about that, being Christian myself BUT I have friends who are in every religion/anti religion and I do know it's not a good thing to disrespect something ppl are spiritually attached to in any type of way... I mean pranks and jokes are one thing, but to insult another's beliefs or mess around with your belongings is something that may actually get more serious if you live together and you don't want that... It causes resentment and resentment is the hardest thing to get over in any relationship because that stank has already been put out there.... If that makes sense at all.. I hope if you do find yourself in a spot where you want or need a roommate, that you find only the best, and that y'all get along great. And just make sure you set boundaries before the move in so there's no confusion about what is ok and not ok.... All that good crap ..
@uta6280

@@fnomore333 the pranks with my religion are usually pretty chill, they don't really insult my beliefs though they have asked my deity one by one if each member of our friend group are "submissive and breedible" and about his sex life. Their antics are harmless and neither me nor my deity really mind he finds it hilarious to mess with them back we're all pretty good at backing off if something is off limits. Most of the penises have been on papers I was using as a pendulum board, so nothing important has been messed with.

Like you have an old soul & higher IQ possibly.. Being laid back about situations and not being too serious about things is a great trait to have... And not common enough .. Never ever change! In my opinion if you are a picky person who like things organized and clean then living alone by yourself is better. For me personally my bathroom is my private place to unwind and have a bubble bath. My bedroom is my restful place and the kitchen must stay clean. Tons of perks? Nah. Just one, you share rent. Everything else is a nightmare. Well I'm an only child so that might explain my biases on this. But living alone has way more perks than living with people, even if they're your friends to begin with. And I'd even say, ESPECIALLY if they were your friends before becoming roommates. You never know your friends until you've lived with them, and trust me, you might lose some friendships doing that.

The milk I needed for dinner was the last straw

Glad they asked for help with rent, my last roommate spent my half on concert tickets before leaving for spring break. Tickle me surprised when the landlord comes screaming and I had to scrap together a whole extra months worth for him. He eventually paid me back but not after telling everyone in our circle that I was at fault. I won't detail his hygiene/cleaning issues but let's just say it was so bad and he was so lazy he just wore shoes around the house 24/7 which only added to the smell

I had roommates once - both my two former best friends can you believe - and only lasted four months! I couldn’t get away fast enough. It ruined my friendship with them. Being friends is one thing, living with them was another. Everything from mess to no respect for my stuff, to constantly annoying me, to demanding things all the time, to trying to get me to pay more. They even used to demand that I woke up at the same time as them. I began to hate them so quickly. Didn’t even tell them I was moving out cos I knew they’d try to stop me. As soon as I found an apartment within my price range I was out, even though it was further away. Never looked back. Never again will I have roommates unless it’s my family. I don’t even let people visit unless I want them there. I’d rather pay more to live alone and have my peace.

I’ve had terrible roommates and I would’ve agreed with you before moving in with my current one. He gave me a place to stay when I was homeless and couch surfing and I had just had the rug pulled out from under me leaving me with no one left to turn to. I had met him during the Texas freeze that happened early 2021 when we both ended up at the same house “party” cause that house still had power. I knew he had a spare room (from a previous roommate that disappeared on him and owed him over $4k) and I asked to crash there to finish out a two weeks notice at the job I just got and he brought me in no complaints. I was terrified, I was finally making progress on getting back to normal and it was all slipping away again until he helped me. When I couldn’t make rent right away one month he told me to calm down, covered my half, and told me “pay me back when it isn’t gonna break you.” After that he got me a job at the bar he worked at cause clearly the one I had wasn’t enough. I started putting in triples every week and finally got myself stable. I don’t know what my life would look like if he hadn’t done all that he did for me but I know I would be infinitely worse off. Not all roommates are good, but some are worth their weight in gold.

If you can find a friend willing to room with you if you want a roommate. Just keep in mind that not everyone wants to room with someone. You can go around meeting new people and getting to know them before you end up rooming with someone so you know your options if you do room with someone. This is good for when your friends say no but also risky as you may meet someone who isn't safe to be around. Always let a friend or a family member know where you are going if you do meet new people for safety reasons.

I put off going home just so I don’t have to interact with anyone. I used to sit on the path to my apartment and wait for my housemate to go to bed before I went upstairs. I’d sneak in and run right to my room so he didn’t try and talk to me. I just really need complete silence and solitude in order to be mentally healthy

My roommates are really good people and I’m probably the bad influence in their lives but I can’t stand having a dirty living room and dirty kitchen. When one cooks, the other cleans up and the one I’m supposed to clean up after leaves the kitchen so fucking messy and after I cook I clean up everything cause it hurts my conscience. No one cleans up the living room and kitchen unless I do ☺️

I hate my roommate. He set alarm at 4 am in the morning (why the hell is he even set alarm that early) and its still ringing untill 11 am and he didn't wake up even once. Im the one that wake up. He set up his alarm to ringing multiple times. I told to him about this and his answer is that it is his effort to woke up. If he set alarm 10 times and didn't wake up, he would set it 20 times, 30 times untill he wake up. Honestly, that is a selfish mentality and no common sense at all. Why don't he think that his action might interrupt his roommate? I wake up when my alarm ringing just 5 seconds because 1. I don't like the sound and 2. I don't want to interrupt my roommate sleeping time. I get headache because of my roommate behavior. I can't even focus in class because of the headache and lack of sleep.

My roommates are f**king slobs. I asked one of them to clean up after himself and he called me a narcissist. I wish I could afford my own place

I had a roommate who left the front door open before leaving, he forgot to flush the toilet on the regs, he ate my stuff and didn't refill, and he NEVER cleaned up... he was a good person, but that was my last roommate since. No matter how nice you are, if you disrespect the simpliest houserules like troughing out the trash once in a while, you'll get hate.

Your roommate was likely taking some kind of sleep medication like Ambien my own mother would steal my pain meds even if I hid them under many layers of clothing I would wake up and they wouldn't be there when I woke up ! . I prefer to live alone for that reason

I completely understand. I was the mother of my apartment, cleaning after others, cooking for everyone, did most of the basic home maintenance and led most if the shopping (roommates did pay, but had no idea what to get from the grocery stores like I did). But I do enjoy visitors.
