I got rid of my 17' Tuono V4 1100 Factory for a 19' YZ450FX supermoto and having the most fun ever. Imo, smaller lightweight torquey bikes are the most fun on the street. Liter bikes are overrated on the street, they are better suited for the track where you can have proper fun on them without the law bothering you.

How much cheaper is insurance? I have a Kawasaki 650 that's $140 year, when i was looking at supersports and supernakeds they were like $2k+. In my 30's, clean driving record, no tickets/accidents (in the last 10 years).

You're a smart kid. I've been riding for 20 plus years. Had everything from Harley's to supernakeds, including a 2015 FZ09, I currently ride a 2017 Ducati Scrambler Classic, very similar to your FZ07. 75hp, light, flickable puts a smile on my face every time I ride it. I completely agree with you these type of bikes make way more sense on the street. Great Video, ride safe my friend.

Yep, a lot of people are gravitating towards the more sensible bikes that are fuel economic, light, multi-purposed, etc. I myself, after owning 2 sport bikes, am looking at a 2019 triumph street scrambler or KTM 790 adventure r for my next bike. They’re more versatile, comfortable, handleable, and can go off road. It’s the freedom that us riders want, and a sport bike is restricted to the street where as a good adventure bike can deliver adventurous spirit.

I totally agree with you as far as having fun on a smaller bike is concerned. For years I also thought the next bike always has to bigger and faster than the previous one. But then one day realized I did not enjoy riding anymore. My Kawasaki Z800 felt too heavy and was not cornering well. I preferred riding my bicycle over the Kawa for two seasons and then made the decision to let it go. I sold it and got myself a Ducati Monster 797 with „only“ 75hp. That was in 2017 and I couldn’t be happier and still have a big smile on my face every time I ride it. Greetings from Germany!

Agree bout that sound. I know tons of guys typically rave about that supersport inline four scream, but personally, I just find it all a bit bland or lacking much character. I have a Ninja 650, probably the quietest bike ever! haha, so I replaced the stock exhaust with a full system SC Project setup and dude, it truly made the bike come to life. Ya I’m missing out on those two extra cylinders of power, but part of the great thing of motorcycling is just how personal and subjective of an experience riding can be. Not ragging on those that like the inline four sound by any means, to each their own. Enjoy the ride everyone! 😎

I just downgraded from an R1 to a Z650 so I completely relate to this. The most fun I ever had on the road was on 600's so I deicded to step back to it. And I have no regrets. The Z650 is insane fun, handles so well in corners but has enough power for the straights and love just wringing its neck its perfect. Looking forward to some tours on it later this year. At the end of the day its all about having fun. :) Great video man.

I totally get it! It isn't a downgrade at all! You have way more usable power and every time you accelerate you can do it way longer than on a bike with more power. In january have my license since january and first only rode a powerfull bike with the riding lessons. Last week I rented a 48hp Z900 (I live in the Netherlands and therefore am limited the first 2 years to 48hp). Icould keep up with my dad riding a 1200cc 116hp Triumph. Had to shift way more often but that made it even more fun. Congrats on your new bike, would love to own a FZ07 one day!

I get what you're saying, I have a '15 FZ-07 and I love it, mostly for the engine and it's nimbleness. One of my favorite bikes ever (when I was younger/smaller) was my first bike, a Yamaha DT 100. That peppy little engine and it's weight made it a super fun bike to ride. A 125 or 250 enduro would be a lot of fun at my size now, I may get a good used one to haul in the back of my truck when I go up to northern Georgia/Tennessee area to ride on their fire roads through the mountains. That would be awesome I think. Careful where you do wheelies. Be safe!

As an 09 owner I admit the 07 looks better without that banana seat, and I'll admit there are days I want to wring it out too without hitting 100. But I love my 09 with a full Lextek exhaust though because it's deep and rumbly under 5k rpm, but has that sweet triple sound in the higher revs.

It makes so much sense to choose the bike that works for you and your riding, you are bang on the smaller bike can be awesome fun and i understand the joy of being able to hold full throttle in windies when others have to hold partial or they'll overspeed. I ride a ducati monster 659 right now and going to an mt09 due to being a big guy and just needing that bit more grunt right now (and i love wheelies and the 659 is not cutting it) but the risk of speeding too much is going to be a challenge.

I understand completely because, back in August of 2014 when the Yamaha Demo Days truck came to town, I test rode both the FZ-09 and FZ-07. I rode the FZ-09 first, and while that was OK, it felt a lot like the seven 4-cylindered bikes I'd had in the past. It just didn't do it for me. Then came the ride on the FZ-07. Man, that was more like it for me. Excellent power delivery, light, maneuverable, and it sounded very good as an added bonus. The bike was WAAAAAYYY more fun than the FZ-09, I felt. It was lacking on the interstate, a little buzzy and loud at 75mph but incredible around town. I’m 6’1” 210 and I did feel a little cramped after a couple hours. I sold the 07 last summer and now have a Road Star to go w/the 09. I do miss the sound and feel of the 07 but feel like I made the right choice for me.

I get why you got an MT07. I had a MT07 and I tried an MT09sp and it didn’t draw me in enough to change. A ktm 790 duke did a good year or so later however. Think it’s similar ethos. Punchy twin and light weight that can be chucked around both bikes are smiles for miles. I would say overall the KTM just edges out the box. However some massive things I miss and love about my old MT07. The sound of that CP2 engine is one of the best sounding engines out there. The initial grunt and low down grunt of the MT07 is something else. Let’s not forget price of these things either they are so much fun for the money. At start of this year I had a Mt07 and an R6 which was mainly for track. I sold R6 to free up some cash for my honeymoon. It was great on track but hated it on road which saw the bike not getting much use. I like yourself fancied a change. I wanted a bike that could commute one day and track day the next. The MT07 would of been good enough for this just the allure of electronics and the slight increase in power drew me to the KTM duke 790. Love the KTM it fits the bill. Part of me wishes Yamaha would do an MT07-SP not all us riders want 150bhp plus bikes. I said when I sold the MT07 it wouldn’t be my last one and despite my love for my new KTM if I could find some spare money I’m year or two time I’ll look to get an xsr700 so I can enjoy a cp2 engine again but this time in a retro style package. You’ve gained a new sub. Hope you enjoy the MT07 and look forward to seeing upcoming videos on your adventures 👍🏻

I own a xsr900 and was thinking of down grading to a xsr700 for many of the same reasons you mention. Although you left out the savings in insurance. It was just a thought and has passed. I'm still on a 900 and happy. That is what it's all about right. So ride on!

Looks like you’re trying to give it a MV Agusta look! I just got an MT-07 and for me the sound of a bike was one of the highest things on my list, so that’s one of the reasons I chose it (can’t top my favorite sounding bike, the Husqvarna Nuda 900r though). I have noticed though, it appeared quite often in bike crash videos. Not sure what to make of that. Anyway, gotta love the torque. Can’t get enough!

Between my gsxr750 and my Triumph SpeedTriple 675, I love my 675. It’s a better riding position, the power delivery actually growls when it digs in, and it’s a unique looking bike. The triple is a lot more fun for street riding than a four.

Went from an RC 51 last year to a FZ09 this year. Absolutely love the naked bike feel and man there's no lack of power, almost too much at the low end - the previous owner had -1 in the front so I'm definitely going back to stock gearing when I change the chain. Not sick of it yet, but I wanna get a 765 street triple or even an older 675 street triple in a few years.

I completely agree with your argument, I have been riding 45 yrs, the biggest bike I owned was a Multistrada 1000 but that was for touring Europe 2 up. I followed that (after totaling it....oops!) with a 650 single for nearly 5 yrs and have just bought an XSR700. Sometimes a bike can be intimidating but there is a "goldilocks" value for power and weight and really "less is more" to certain degree, especially if you have lots of power but are scared to use it all, then it's just a dead-weight.

Trust me your reasoning is perfect. I can see why you changed out from the fz-09. I just upgraded to a MT-10 from a MT-07. For the same reasons as you but I’m just 6’3 and 220lbs. I do feel better on the MT-10 not gonna lie. The torque is the best part of riding not top speed that’s why I would never want a Sportbike, plus there just uncomfortable AF. The MT-07 was a great first bike for me loved every second shifting and down shifting every chance I could.

Couldn't agree more. I sold my Speed Triple due to habitual speeding. Once I sell my R1200 ST I'll be getting a MT-07 or a XSR 700. It's got all the torque I could want and after 30 years of riding, torque is all I want.

I recently did the same thing for the same reason. I "downgraded" from an FZ-10 to a Hypermotard 939SP. More fun at lower speeds, I break the laws less, except for wheelies, but then I was doing that on the FZ-10 as well, just faster. And with the higher center of gravity on the Hypermotard, I don't have to go into turns anywhere near as fast to get "that feeling" when you are cornering. I thought that I was the only one making this move though. Some of my friends think I'm nuts, or scared, but they have no idea what they are missing.....

It doesnt matter what kind of car or bike you have. The only way a vehicle can be bad is if it doesnt put a smile on your face and from the sound/looks of it, it definitely make you happy and that's literally all that matters.

Hello sir.. pardon me for my not so good English. How is it to ride in Michigan? Is it safe? I am from Asia, I have a 250 here I am a motorcycle guy and travel 98% on my motorcycle. What will be the procedure to get motorcycle license there to ride motorcycles from any class? Too many questions, I guess. Give your inputs if you don't mind. Thank you:) I might move to Michigan (Troy).

I was thiking on upgrading my Yamaha Tracer 700 (dunno if available on the states, but basically an Fz07with some farings for better touring), because i was "no longer scared" of using the full throttle, i knew exactly how it would respond, tried the fz09 in sport mode and was like "omg, this is cool!" and was thinking on upgrading, but after i saw your video... I "feel you", I think of it and being able to use the all the throttle and know how much throttle i am using and how much I need to use is actually a good thing bot a bad thing. I have car background and totally agree on driving slow cars fast being way funnier that fast cars slow 60mph will seem fast on a slow car, and slow on a fast car. Also i dont need more speed, my bike has all the speed that I need. Now i am more turned into having something a bit more "offroadier" if I need to, since mine is good for everything i need, but not for offroad, and if i mod it to it (like someguys do) it will be crap for touring and such. In resume, thanks for the video, you did opened my eyes on something that was right in front of me and i could not see!

Yeah I feel the "obligated to speed" thing. I love my busa I really do and will always keep it. But I need a 2nd bike, something fun and light. The busa is just too fast for the street to be an only bike. Theres boxes not checked off for my enjoyment of riding. I'm 6'4" 240 so I hope I'm not too big for the mt07. That's the other factor in bike choice is my size

I couldnt agree more. Im taking my licence veginning of this summer and i’ve been looking for a mt-07. The dealerships are full of MT-09s but finding a decent priced MT-07 is hard. Only downside i’ve heard about the 07 is the suspension but theres lots of mods for that.

My first bike was a brand new 2012 Ninja 250R. I could twist the shit out of the throttle and would not exceed the speed limit that much. Banging through all the gears. It was a lot of fun but had to upgrade. Got the 2017 FZ-07 ABS in red. LOVE IT!!! When I first rode it i accidentally pulled a couple power wheelies because I was used to my ninja. The FZ07 is a perfect bike for those that want to have fun rather than going the fastest possible. I ride 15mins to work in Orlando Florida... The torque is perfect for a busy city.

Just picked up an FZ-07 as an upgrade from my Ninja 300, the 07 is definitely NOT slow! I mean sure, it's not as fast as a litre bike, but from what I can tell already the 07 is still capable of going way faster than necessary for public roads. I don't really have plans to upgrade any further. This level of power is exactly what I wanted.
