Your story brought tears to my eyes. I'm now in a very similar situation as you were. I'd been suffering through medical school for 2 years and have just dropped out. Unfortunately, my parents didn't support my decision at all, so I had to reapply and did all other things myself and then told them after that. Even until now my parents still keep telling me that I might regret my decision some day and I'm very scared thinking about my unpredictable future. But I may be like you, I still want to do it even if I'm scared. I'm glad that you are happy with your decision and manage to find a job that you are really passionate about. Your story made me want to trust in my own feeling and instinct more. Thank you very much for sharing it!

@@cupcakechronicles4551 I also struggled through dental school, it wasn’t my first choice or even second, wanted to quit halfway, but thought I’d at least get the piece of paper, the first few years of work were not kind to my health, I took time off to reevaluate, went abroad, realised I really missed certain aspects of my profession, ended up deciding to give it another crack but took more control of what kind of environment I wanted to be in, took another 2 years going between places until I settled at where I have been for the last 4 years and I look forward to going to work everyday. So basically life can work out whichever path you choose, and you don’t need to stick to just one, change is a good feeling, but your choices should always be aligned with your life goals, that way you’re always heading towards your North Star / southern cross. Good luck. And thanks Shuoshuo for sharing your story!

That’s an incredibly cool story, it shows a lot of courage and independence. You should be so proud of yourself for taking a step to do something that makes you happy. Not many people find that whether they’re from China or anywhere else in the world.
First I was an anime fan, but once I applied to my high school to be able to learn Russian, we needed to choose our second language (to most Hungarians our native language is not counted when we tell people we speak x languages). So we had a few choices: French, Spanish, English, German, Italian, or Chinese. Since Japanese was no option, I chose Chinese. And how happy I am I did so. For Christmas I got two books that year: one was about ancient Japan, the other was about ancient China. When I started reading the latter, I fell in love with China and everything around it. This love has been staying with me for almost 4 years now. I even found someone whom I can look up to, which I never found before that. This person is 武则天。Although I never had the chance to visit China, it has a piece of my heart, and will always have this part of it.

Your story is so heartwarming. ❤ It's great that your mom was there for you when you needed to drop out. Thailand seems like a great country. ^^ My journey to learning Chinese is not that interesting. I got into anime and Jpop, and some Cpop and Kpop, when I was a tween. I wanted to study Japanese in high school, but by the time I entered the 9th grade, they were offering Chinese instead of Japanese. I already studied Spanish in middle school, and the only other option I had was French, so I went for Chinese. I loved learning the language, and I liked my Chinese teacher a lot, so I took classes for two to three years. Unfortunately, I forgot almost everything after I went to college due to other life responsibilities. Now I'm back to make sure I become fluent this time. I am here on my own free will and desire. No grades and no boyfriend to keep me motivated.

I really enjoy listening to your stories. Although not always understood by me, my Mandarin is progressing slowly but its getting there. I love the way you interleave your stories with the studying of Mandarin. I in particular like learning more about you as a person and believe me I remember everything. For instance you were born in the year of the dragon, so was I. You mentioned in one of your videos that you have a 3 year old child. Personal information to some but to me makes it possible to interact with your teaching so much better. Would love to hear more. Best, most pretty clear sounding Chinese teacher.

I started teaching English as a second language. I enjoy teaching and I'm a retired teacher I do it volunteer so I don't charge. I especially enjoy teaching Chinese students because they are so eager to learn. Since I don't charge I would ask them to teach me some Chinese in exchange. Sometimes I don't have that much motivation to learn Chinese because I don't have a pressing need. However I found it is very interesting and cool to learn a language which is so different from English. It can really expand one's mind. I like to listen to your videos and overtime I can understand more and more thank you

Hello Shuo, Well, after traveling to Thailand and learning Thai for a few years, I surprised myself with the fact that I could actually learn a foreign language. My positive experience with Thai encouraged me on to begin learning Chinese, which I started at the beginning of 2016. The thing that attracted me at first was the characters and how complex they seemed, and to think that natives could understand them with ease. 迄今我積累起來了快到五千鐘頭的中文學習時間。大部分的時間我用在讀小說,這樣做是個很有趣而很有效的學習方式。 你講的故事,我都聽得懂了 沒有用字幕。 It's great that you're now doing something you love as your job, and your KZbin videos are no doubt helping a lot of people. Good job! All the best

I am surprised to hear your story! Because i thought that its amazing how you dropped out before and i dropped out just 3 months ago and i am trying to learn mandarin and cantonese. I am from indonesia ( our timezone is the same😄) and my mother tongue is cantonese, i really wish to be able to communicate to my popo now that i have more time and really, less excuse to delay it further. I also really love chinese cuisines and culture (though i definitely understand that each culture has it's good and bad sides) so i want to study mandarin as well if that makes sense? My reason to study cantonese is more profound than my intention to study mandarin, but people advice me to study mandarin first because they say there are more resources to study cantonese in mandarin so i am going to try hard to... learn both at the same time😅! I hope i can also love and enjoy studying mandarin and become fluent and hopefully visit china (though i am a bit afraid to go since i wear hijab) i hope one day the world (in this case 🇨🇳) can be much more accepting and more peaceful 🙏

1 - You are beautiful without makeup. You can do what you like but you don't need it. 2 - The way you felt about Thailand - feeling "at home" and like you've been there before and strangely felt like you belonged there - is exactly how I felt when I went to Germany/Switzerland. I'd love to live there someday. Thailand looks lovely and I'm sure the food is amazing but it's too hot and humid for me. 3 - I've never been to China but I'd love to visit one day. Why I'm interested in Chinese is because Japanese was too hard :) Also 1.4 billion speakers means being able to communicate opens up a whole other world including job possibilities.

I was studying for a big exam and I was quite stresses so in order to relieve stress I decided at the spur of the moment to click on a cdrama, I liked it very much and I came to see China in a new light. I was never curious about China before just considered it as a neighbouring country but after that I became somewhat interested and by that time my exams were also over so I had some free time and I started learning about China, I became very interested in their culture and traditional clothes, the hanfu, then I encountered about their history and it was and still is very beautiful to me as a person who loved reading about history about my own country, Chinese history also really fascinated me I also got to know about the various ethnicities residing in China their vibrant cultures I feel quite drawn to them. Their traditional houses are beautiful and I hope to visit one of them and even build such a type of house for myself one day( quite a wishful thinking) somewhere among the mountains and live there in peace. Then I became interested in Mandarin so I started self learing their language, practicing the characters and learing calligraphy. Although I haven't been able to put much time in them due to my studies I still am going with my own pace and I hope to visit China and experience the beautiful country one day.

Living/traveling to China wasn't on my mind at first. I was at a university when my advisor showed me an opportunity to go to China for a summer camp. I went to talk to the boss who ran the business and had a great conversation with him. I got his WeChat and from there we started talking. I got my visa and I started to head off to China. I only stayed in China for 2 months before going back to finish my last semester at my university. While at my stay in China, I asked my boss about my experience at the school and asked if I could have a job. Obviously, he accepted and was heading to China in January 4, 2018. Since then, I have been living in China. I live in Wenzhou (hope you remember me from our conversation haha) and I have enjoyed the people, the people I work with, and especially my students and how badass they are!! When you started to talk about how happy you are about teaching and living in Thailand, I got emotional because I'm happy as well living in China and seeing the change in my students. I am beyond grateful for running into your channel!! Much love from this American!!!!
