I graduated from the University of Southern California in 2018 with a Business Administration degree. Before graduating, I thought I would go into digital marketing. After graduating, I tried starting a company with a fellow KZbinr and friend. Learning how to code has been something that I've been thinking about doing for the past few years, so when I moved home with my parents, I finally decided to commit. I'm currently starting my 2nd unit in Lambda School's part-time Web Development online program.

yesss I'm so glad you decided to learn how to code and made this video talking about it!! I just graduated from computer engineering and have done a bunch of internships in software development and honestly, learning how to code is so helpful for literally anyone. I remember when I first started (I think I was around 15?) I thought I was horrible too and that it didn't come naturally to me like I thought it did for other people, but it's not like that all - everyone starts somewhere. Stick through it and I'm excited to see what you make ❤️ Also, we have so much in common, it's cool to watch someone who is so similar to you :)

Hi Rabeea! This comment made me so excited, thank you!! Coming from Alaska, I honestly was never exposed to coding in grade school and didn't have make friends doing it in college until later on. It's been really exciting for me to get more exposure to people who have experience, so I loved reading this comment! Thank you for your kind words 😊💗

I appreciate this comment so much! I often feel self-conscious posting about coding because I know that I know so little. So this comment was actually really nice to see coming from someone like you who is studying it! I really appreciate this, it definitely encourages me to continue posting about it instead of waiting until I feel like I know enough... which I know will probably never happen how I'd like it to anyway!

This!! I seriously take and relate my yoga learnings into almost everything. Everything needs breath (especially coding frustration)! And I have come to realize showing up, just like in practicing, just being there, being who you are, and trying your best, is really most of the battle. I try not to articulate my yoga learnings too much or else my family starts to get annoyed so I appreciate this comment so much! Sadly I haven’t been practicing much because of Corona, hoping to get into a home routine that I love. Thanks for this nice comment Erika :) I always enjoy seeing you on my social media!

so strange because i literally graduated im also 24 and I was thinking about enrolling in a coding Bootcamp. I'm not sure I'm going to go through with it though. I believe I'm actually going to attend grad school and earn my masters in communication. I have a possible job opportunity that will pay for grad school and I'm so excited about it potentially working out. I've been thinking about getting my masters vs coding Bootcamp, and the coding lifestyle, I'm not sure is fit for me. I need socializing, I need human interaction and I need a communication-based lifestyle. I also want to teach at college level, so the master's helps too. maybe your video is a sign though.. maybe the Lord is trying to tell me something lol

Fellow Trojan here! Awesome you're thinking about this. So you want to build a brand? Have you thought of what that might be? Is your audience primarily potential employers & business partners? I think you have great footing with your youtube rn. With influence in 2020, influence takes you far. Welcome to tech! Good Luck homie! :)
@annemariechase

Hi! I’ve seen your username before Great branding, very memorable! I’m honestly not exactly sure of what kind of brand I want to build or which idea to pursue. Likely not my own brand, but something that is beneficial to the world (mental, physical, spiritual health) and important to me. I have some things in mind and many smalldumb fun projects I want to try out. My audience is primarily my (our) peers: 50% aged 18-24 and 30% 25-34 with a bit less than 30% being male in the last year. I’ve never seen my audience as a group who I could try out any of my projects with - I didn’t think there’d be interest and I didn’t think that I could do a good job. These are both things I’ve recently realized are not true, I’ve also come to learn that I have an educated and smart audience. So in school, I want to rebuild my presence, hopefully grow my audience, and start trying these projects out once I gain the courage and knowledge 😄 definitely excited to check out your videos!! Nice to hear from another Trojan, so thanks for commenting!

If you would do it over again, would you major in CS or have a CS minor?
@annemariechase
@annemariechase 4 жыл бұрын
Honestly I'm not too sure because I'm unsure of the differences. I have heard that a common criticism of majoring in CS at traditional undergrad is that you cover a lot more theory versus actually doing projects and coding. And I do think that a business degree made sense for me and my future goals. Ideally I'll end up doing something using my coding knowledge in a future business and can be happy that I decided to major in business and learn coding via a bootcamp!

Can you discuss why you chose Lambda over other boot camps and why that route instead of going back to uni? That would be really helpful
@annemariechase
@annemariechase 4 жыл бұрын
Mostly minimizing risk! Lambda School is 9 or 18 months for the full-time and part-time programs and completely online. Upfront tuition is still a fraction of the cost of a semester at my alma mater USC. And they have the option to enroll with an ISA (income share agreement) where you don't pay anything until you get a high paying full-time job, so it seemed to me like they had a commitment to their student's learning and success. For something like programming, it also makes sense that you can learn online and virtually, since everything is done on your computer anyway. So a big combination of small related things :)

All about networking throughout college! It's a phennomenal school, if you're lucky enough to get it and can afford it, it would be a huge loss to not go. But network and apply to jobs outside of the city as well. Message recruiters on linkedin across the country. The weight of a USC business degree to a random recruiter online will hold more than a smaller school with a lower rep (assuming you both have the same credentials, if the other has more experience, skills etc. then it's harder to compete)
@TechVHD
@TechVHD 4 жыл бұрын

ClashOfClans a USC degree costs ~77k a year (with no financial aid). Multiple this by 4 years and you’re looking at more or less of ~300k or so. I don’t think she gets financial aid because she’s pretty well off so to spend that much money again for another bachelors degree is a waste of time and money. You can teach yourself coding. You don’t need to college to help you. Actually, Coding boot camp is a great place to learn. Also, if you watched her college vlogs, she actually did land a corporate job at Johnson&Johnson, I believe. She turned it down because she didn’t want the corporate lifestyle.

Justin or go to a public state school? anyways wouldn’t coding lead to corporate again anyways
@Justin-ev8nn
@Justin-ev8nn 4 жыл бұрын
ClashOfClans Public school is a good option, but there’s no point in going back to school for a second bachelors degree. Might as well go for a masters at that point. Or better yet, teach yourself how to code. Everything you need is on the internet. Tech jobs, in my opinion, are more relaxed compared your financial, accounting corporate jobs.

Are you worried about getting a job now that the economy is where it is? Do you wish you went and got a job a couple years ago now?
@annemariechase
@annemariechase 4 жыл бұрын
I am definitely concerned about getting a job and the economy! It’s hard for me to tell in hindsight as I have found ways to justify my current path. I have definitely had moments and times where I have wished that I instead just got a job. But at the same time, I realize the flexibility that I have now even with deciding to learn coding. I’d be in a position where my job title wouldn’t be bulletproof (or pandemic-proof) and I’d be just as susceptible to losing my job (some tech companies including VSCO that I applied to have had huge layoffs). I'm glad I don't have to worry about rent to pay or being away from my family in a big city. Right now, I feel grateful to have been settled in and living with my parents in my hometown during Coronavirus. And I feel lucky that I have something interesting to learn to distract me and keep me in a routine - all while hopefully advancing my future and career potential and even personal projects!! But seeing as all of this is very pandemic hindsight thinking, I think you can see that my answer, opinions, and outlook on things are changing all the time!
