If you asked me what the single most important thing I did to grow my KZbin channel was I would hands down say getting up at 5AM was it. By getting up so early I was able to get a head start on my day which meant I could get tons of work done before most other people even think of getting up. On top of that it left me with more open afternoons to enjoy the nice weather and sunshine of the day. The reason this is so effective is because our will power is a resource which starts to run out after working a full day. This means that by the time we reach the end of the work day we have very little or no willpower to do the things we want. This is why I get up at 5AM so I can do all the productive activities I enjoy such as making these videos and going to the gym. If you haven't tried getting up earlier I highly recommend it.

This is true but like him I too find my energy to be lacking in the evening. Even when I worked that shift, I would hit the ground running, but hit a wall around 6-8pm, and by 9 I would struggle to motivate or energize myself in any way. In contrast I also worked 4am-1pm for over 2 years and found myself to be far more productive throughout the day, often on less sleep. Of course when you work at 4 am you get up 2-3 am which might be too early for some but i find myself most productive when I get up in the middle of night or in the early morning. I'm sure it varies from person to person though.

Very inspirational! I've been testing it out UPDATE: This really works for me! I've been sleeping at 11:00 and waking up at 6:00, giving me 1hr 30min before I need to get ready for work. I'm a lot more productive in the morning, and I feel better when getting ready and driving to work. I used to sleep at like 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning.

@@ismailbouazizi984, I can give you details, since I am also that kind of person that sleeps early at night, and awakes early in the morning. It is just amazing how your brain works after rest. So if you want to get good at something that you like, it is better to invest your time almost immediately after waking up from bed. Personally, I don't get this culture of programmers (most of them kids) who feel is cool to stay up late until night to start to be productive when your brain has been used for many ours since you woke up. It really makes the difference, and I have been doing that for years. (it doesn't have to be that early like at 5 am) But programming or learning something new early in the morning right after waking up, really boosts your learning.

This whole topic is really about personal preference. You can be just as productive getting up later and going to bed later, the amount of productive hours you have is the same regardless of when you get up as long as you have a constant number of hours of sleep. I go to bed at 4am, wake up at 10am, and am just as productive. My most productive hours are actually the late night/early morning hours so this whole topic is redundant if you can choose and define your own work hours.

You're spot on w.r.t. will power. I remember reading experiments that showed that people's good will is much stronger at the beginning of the day. And that's one of the reason why dates are more successful in the evening: because when your will power is gone, so are your inhibitions, which helps bonding with others. It's similar to being drunk. So I also think that while you may have more will power in the morning, your creativity may be higher in the evening. So it's a balance.

You have found wisdom, young man. I get up at 5am, hit treadmill, sleep by 11 or 12am. I have more energy with this schedule and I get more work completed than getting up at 7am and sleep by 10. If I sleep more than 5 or 6 hours, or sleep late I am useless and then my body crashes twice in a single day at 11am and then around 3 or 4 pm. I have been doing this schedule for 19 years. Keep it up, you will be very productive in life if you master this!! Having control over "self will" is a masterful power!! Btw, I found one of your other videos extremely helpful, informative, and straight to the point. Then I saw this video title on your channel and was very intrigued that someone your age would have stuck through the first month to get past the hard part of adjusting your mind and body! Congratulations!

I got up for school at 7 AM for years and never got used to it. I'd physically struggle to even keep my eyes open, and then at night I'd stay up until 2 AM. I do believe that we're hard-wired to be morning people or night owls, at least some of us. I agree that getting up early makes the day seem longer and be more productive. I like it when I get a lot done and it's only lunch time. So I'm always torn between what I know is better and what my body wants to do 😅 I think every day at 5 AM is too much, though. Even going out for dinner would be hard after getting up so early. Maybe around 7-8 AM, a bit later on weekends. I'm going to try it.

@@newstrend4755 I get tired as well but take a shower and you will be up and running. For mental fitness try power naps, 20 min if you feel so. You will definitely love working after that. Because when you're learning and not doing physical work, you're using too much of your brainpower and shower won't help you. So for me, a power nap was the best option. Also, check Tim Ferris's tips on meditation as well.

Currently (from Sep/2021) from my perspective night time is much more productive for me. Night time in general has lesser distractions compared to day time. No one to bother me, extremely quiet to the point where you can clearly go through your thoughts, less chances to leave the house etc. I usually start working from around 10PM untill it's 3AM minimum. But as you've said it does come down to self-will. I have nights where I am not productive at all and some nights where I can't stop working on a project till I get it done. So, to summarize both should be taken depending on how your work environment goes. If you have a work environment that does work through the day then wake up early and vise versa for the night time. But if you're a freelancer that can do work at any time he/she wants then I say wake up according to your personality (do you like going out and socializing or you like to stay at home and do your hobbies?). It all comes down to your personal preference and the situations you're in.

Hi Mate, I only discovered this video just now but I have been in that mode a year ago. After coming back to Europe after traveling Asia, I decided to just keep my sleep times and not shift them which ended up in getting up at 6 AM. It was amazing. I would get up, have a coffee, go for a walk on empty streets and get some sunlight in, come back home and start on personal projects or just reading a book. Workwise, my first meeting would always be at 10 AM. It felt insane every day how much I would have done in my personal life in those 4 hours, before showing up at work. However covid has changed all that. I've been doing 24/5 home office and I got really lazy... getting up 1-5 mins before the first meeting (Yeah... nowadays I get up at 9.55 latest and 9.50 earliest...) Thanks for making this video. It really motivates me to get back into that mode. And even raising it to 5 AM instead of 6 AM. To everyone else: I can confirm everything that was said in the video. I've been in that mode and it is so much better than being a nightowl. I too would go to bed between 1-3AM and always thought I was just a nightowl, but as Kyle says, its just a habit
