If you want to try out some games that have a similar soundtrack to skate 2, try out MX vs ATV Untamed, or Unleashed, as they both have killer soundtracks. 2 others that are more obscure. 1. Baja 1000 Xbox 360. Has shockwave just like skate 2, and many other punk rock music. 2. Nail’d. Has never been ported to the new-gen consoles, but damn was its soundtrack great. American Sixgun, Backyard Babies, Slave on Dope, Slipknot, Rise Against. So many good songs and a (surprisingly) good sounding OST collection that matches the vibe of the game.

Videos not even out yet but I just want to say my opinion. I think the soundtrack really fits with the different environments and challenges we have to do. So many of the songs are included in this game due to their history in popular video parts from professionals. The soundtrack really exposed me to so many punk rap and indie acts at such a young age it was really a unique listen experience for any kid who loved skateboarding. I think it definitely doesn’t compare to other soundtracks from other games in this genre, but I think it’s safe to say some of these songs are still aging well today because of the impact of this game and how people thrive for that nostalgia Can’t wait to watch this and hear what you have to say

Oh yeah and the song in Paul Rodriguez's Yeah right part (Made you Look by NAS) was used in skate 2.

I think the first Skate has the best ambient music out of the 3. Tommy Guerrero, XXXChange, and Z-Trip all made really great ambient music to skate to if you set the music to "environmental". It really set the tone for the whole game, which I'd argue has the most relaxing vibe of the series. I didn't feel like Skate 2 or 3's ambient music came close at all to the vibes of the first game.

The skate 2 soundtrack is absolutely transcendent and unbeatlable, but I think the skate 3 soundtrack is alright, the biggest problem really is what you said about the atmosphere of the game and that it's completely absent, so the music really just doesn't hit like it should... Personally I do think that the choice of tracks could've been a lot better, but it wouldn't fix the previously mentioned fundamental issue of the empty atmosphere. When I play skate 2, It feels like I'm visiting an old friend and immediately getting along with them, but when I play skate 3 it feels like meeting a coworker and making small talk just so the silence doesn't get weird. The game itself is amazing, but the vibes are seriously off, which is kinda disappointing.

There's one thing i think you missed in this video that i think is super important. A lot of the music in the skate games are songs that are in legendary skate videos / parts. "Going Up Country" was used in Clark Hassler's part in Enjoi's "Bag of Suck" video. If you've ever seen that gif of a dude doing a tre flip then flying into the sky, that's where that comes from. That being said, i think the environment thing has more to do w/ the game rather than the soundtrack. Still a great vid tho!

Listening to: The Clash - Death Or Glory Underground Railroad To Candyland - Square Ball Stiff Little Fingers - Alternative Ulster could almost make me cry from nostalgia. The environment aspect was also really interesting! Couldnt agree more with everything in this video. Skate 2 was my childhood and so was the soundtrack of it.

Yeah, Skate 3's weakest component is definitely the atmosphere. I feel people make the "Skate 3 takes place in the afterlife" is because of bland, lifeless and boring it is. The time of day doesn't change either (in the base game at least) so that's another argument for it. I love Skate 3 for how broken it is but Skate 2 will always be superior
@youtubeaccountlol49429 ай бұрын
That's more related to the world design itself and EA crunch. Really has nothing to do with the soundtrack when you break down the mediocrities of Skate3. You could argue that soundtracks need to provide atmosphere (which I agree) but that's in the context of a already fulfilling world. Soundscapes are the cherry on top of world design and I think (as you mentioned) poor shadowing, like warm AI and no time progression suck a lot of the 'life' out of it. The only thing that brings any vibe back at all is the music

this game definitely does not have the best soundtrack out of the 3 but this video was more rambling about EVERYTHING but skate 3s soundtrack. To say the soundtrack doesn't match an enviroment is silly, for the reason that if you just watch hundreds of different peoples skate videos the genres of the music change even when the environment is the same (example of different people doing tricks in the same spots) Also add that orange grunge filter that skate 2 has to anything it will always look/feel better its just the way humans see it

Specifically regarding that ending segment... I agreed that every song fit better in Skate 2, but I feel like the songs fit because of the visual filters that Skate 2 had vs how clean Skate 3 looks. SSX 3's soundtrack matches the game itself for a fairly good reason: it's in-universe the biggest snowboarding competition of the history of the world. Atomika mentions in the opening that they took like a whole year to prepare the mountain (a mountain where people live in, no less) in order to create the finest snowboarding competition possible. So of course the bangers fit well with the setting, it's aiming for the peak of the sport on itself.

I don't know how to explain it, but there is no vibe in Skate 3. And it sucks because in every other way, it's my favorite skating game, no other game in the genre feels as satisfying to play. The atmosphere of the game is truly bland, plastic, and fake compared to Skate 2. I really hope the new skate game delivers with things like the ability to change the weather and time of day, especially considering one of the main draws to the game for a lot of people is creating footage, montages, photos, etc.

i feel like they chose a lot of "safe" and "clean" sounding songs ("clean" as in production rather than lyrics) to fit the game's "clean" and "positive" theme. Skate 1 had a lot of songs related to video parts or even songs made by pro skaters, and had more of a "skateboarding roots" type vibe. almost like you're playing your very own video part. Skate 2 had more heavier and rough sounding songs to fit the whole "rebellious" and "grungy" theme the game has going on, rebelling against a big corporation and all. Skate 3, however, doesnt really have a plot outside of skate around and sell decks. nothing but bright colors and strictly positive vibes. all i can really say is it's so 2010, even down to the "safe" and "clean" minimal graphic design. i personally love the Skate 3 soundtrack, but it definitely seems more safe and washed out compared to the other games. P.S. For the longest time, my brother thought "Rock the Casbah" by The Clash was in Skate 3. it was cuz he watched an old video of someone playing the game, and it had that song in the background. Also, "Even Flow" better be in the new Skate (aint callin it Skate 4)

I’ve forgotten most of Skate 2’s soundtrack other than letting me be myself again just because it played in the demo, which I played a trillion times before I got the game. I got Skate IT before I got Skate 2, other than my first ever all nighter where I “one more mission’d” my way through the entire game at my cousin’s house while he was asleep. I do dislike most of Skate 3’s soundtrack, except for maybe 10 songs that are still active. Eyes of the Panther was supposed to be a joke but it’s a jam, Almost Ready missed its bus on the way to Regular Show, and the line “God bless unconsciousness” is hilarious when you’re jumping off a building and intentionally splitting your head open.

7:14 That little tangent about why you didn't like the UNKLE remix of No One Knows is precisely why I like it. It's intense, it's foreboding. That, and it's the intro song for Race Driver Grid, one of my favourite games of all time

DUDE as soon as i saw SSX3 i had to jump to the comments, it's my favourite game of all time and it holds a very special place in my heart because it got me into snowboarding, my biggest passion and reason to live, and also skating AMAZING game and soundtrack, it influenced my WHOLE life, the music i listen to, my lifestyle... i literally live for snowboarding and i owe it all to ssx3

i'm 7 months late but something that i personally find kinda funny is, i agree that skate 1&2 has a better vibe in general than 3 but because i live in a planned city in an east asian country skate 3's settings feel more familiar with those boring ass waves of concrete and glass panels. so my experience of listening early~mid 00's rock and hip hop in those places just clicks into my impression of skate 3 too well

I listen to the Skate 2 soundtrack in full at least thrice a year, shit just fills me with so much joy. Also just wanna say I'm happy I'm not the only one who immediately thinks of Gonz's hippie flip whenever Surrender's playing

Aside from the music skate 3 being the wrong game that got popularized made me not lile this game. This internet refuses to make sense and we can't really do anything about it which is sad.

I've often said I would love Skate 1's sound track in Skate 2's map, with skate 3's gameplay. Skate 1 and 2 have superior soundtracks to Skate 3, as they fit the "skate" vibe more. I had half the soundtrack muted in Skate 3.

Mx vs atv unleashed is what made me love nickleback. Listen to side of a bullet doing double backflips. That and smack down vs raw 2008 is another soundtrack I love to this day.

agent orange is one of my favorite bands ever and i found them through skate, and gta V. that being said it’s really funny they put “going up the country” by canned heat in the game

Personally I only had skate 3 so instead of hating it by making comparisons I loved it because it was THE skating game to me absolutely understand and respect your points just thought I’d add my 2 cents.

Comin’ Home and Summertime Clothes are also two songs that would fit better in Skate 2 rather than Skate 3

Best thing to do while playing skate 3 is just play your Spotify playlist in the background while playing it lol

I have to be honest, racing games made me interested in the music I am now, like all the emo and grunge stuff I listen to, but also jazz and jazz fusion.
