Jessica, this is so impressive and I couldn't agree more, when you embrace the language like you have you create a deeper understanding of the culture and a way of life.
@IndiaWithJessica3 жыл бұрын
without that understanding, its kind of a huge waste of effort- and can harm the local people when you have knowledge without a humble understanding.

Jessicajee, learning a language(I learned German thoroughly) comes from curiosity about life as we advance in life. If there is a desire for knowing about the meaning of life, it unlocks an amount of effort, and motivation that works over some time and people assimilate those structures faster and deeper. But I like your soul that is contributing back to society.
@nv123ify2 жыл бұрын
I would put it this way-You loved India and India loved you back, and one of its language embraced you, rest all are technical details.
Stumbled upon your channel by chance. Have been binge watching your episodes now. Thanks for your efforts and candour. As an Indian living abroad, it's always thought provoking to notice how India is perceived by others. 🙏🙏👍👍

Yes, the deeper relationships is a strong motivation for me to increase my hindi learning - specifically family relationships. The idea of "taking a posture of learning" is good. Even in the context of familial relationships, the idea of accepting India as it is (or for my example accepting Indians as they are), gave much more space for openness and closeness between me and my mother in law. Thanks for sharing!

Namaste Jessica I watched your interview yesterday and impressed with you very much you are so amazing and wonderful culture wise and intellect wise you may be a inspiration for us one thing I would like to request you since you are very fluent in English and Hindi why don't you start a Spoken English learning channel I think it will be very fruitful in this field. Because there are very few people who are fluent in both Hindi and American. Hoping for an early response.

If you really want to learn Indian culture then learn Sankskrit, which it the root of all Indic languages. Even if our country has been multilingual always, it was Sanskrit which kept us connected.

Thank you, that's a great attitude to have especially when you want to be a part of a foreign culture. To have an open mind and the will to understand people and respect them for who they are without imposing your cultural traits on them is not a very common sight, especially when it comes to the western perspective on eastern cultures and traditions. You have my respect! 🙏 PS: That bindi looks beautiful on you.

Hello my dear behen. Bahut shukriya aapke vichar Kay liyay. We have similar experiences. My experience was the other way. I came to America when I was very young. I watched my cousins rolling on the floor laughing while watching the three stooges. I did not quite grasp what they were guffawing about. After years of being immersed in the American culture and American English, I feel that I understand the nuances of the language. You are absolutely right that one really has grasped the language when one has that emotional connection with people: when people look at your soul and forget the phenotype (the external appearance). At that point you are one! I have always thought that you are one of the natives when you can joke and laugh with the natives…so as they say. We have very similar stories but in the other direction. :) aaah so many stories of my own. God bless you my friend and look forward to seeing how y’all’s lives bloom! Aur kabhi James Altar say milo. Acha aadmi hai; kabhi unko interview Karo; dono baat karo. Mazaa ayega. Appearance is not everything. You guys can change the world.

"Hindi" when pronounced by a near native speaker or a native speaker will place the tongue against the lower part of the front upper teeth to make the soft D sound whereas English speakers will place the tongue close to where the upper palate and gums meet the upper front teeth and make a hard D sound. Being able to hear the difference is the first step towards mastery of the sound system of Hindustani language.The mastery of gender/ verb sentence agreement in Hindi is also something English speakers , Pushto and Bengali speakers never really get down properly.

Wow This concept about "comparing india and america " and "things not being black or white always infact its GREY" is so relatable for me in present state of my mind. I Was on" youtube video spree" about crime in america(drugs, child molestation, kids suffering/dying due addicted parents/divorce/teen mom/abusive households/ infidelity and what not . And the fact that all above is not just happening in poor/criminal housholds blew my mind. The realisation that there are so many things this crowded,chaotic ,old and disordered country called india might be doing right And there might be some things the ideal, free , best democracy i.e. USA could be doing wrong . Thats a new realisation for many pro western anticonservative mind set ppl. How no matter what culture conservative/progressive ppl follow there will be best/worse possible outcomes.
