It had always bothered me that we were told to thank god for the good things that happened because it was his doing, but if something bad happened, naturally he had absolutely nothing to do with it

The Bible does say that God is the source of good and bad. But it seems only bad when punishing someone or a group of people. But my question was always... if God created everything. He had to create evil. Even if it was just to grant Free will... God is still the source. I could be wrong, but, my thoughts.

Faith has always been difficult for me . I can't just fully believe in something that I can't see or touch . & I know prayer doesn't work . I've been praying for years & nothing has changed in my life for the better .. I decided about 2-3 weeks ago that Christianity is just unreasonable for me .

I'm very sorry to hear that you are having struggles in your life, but I think you've made a wise decision to move away from the self deprecating and deluding system that is Christianity. Once you learn that faith gets you nowhere, you can begin to focus on the facts, which will help you establish a more realistic plan of action for the changes you want to make.

hey im that girl was just commenting on your other video lol but the reason i found prayer to be bullshit is really similar just put differently. my friend explained it to me like this. you know that kind of popular christian saying that goes something like "god answers all prayer with one of 3 responses: yes, no, or not yet." this was too explain that god answeres all prayers just that he doesnt always say yes which as a young catholic i accepted blindly but then he said now imagine youre praying to a milk jug. you pray to this milk jug and you ask it for $3 mil. now the ONLY possible outcomes are you get the money right away, you dont get the money, or you get the money a year from now... his point was that no matter if you pray to god or a milk jug the same three options are the only POSSIBLE options. theres no other way. you could pray to a milk jug and never get that kind of money and people would say " well duh... youre praying to a milk jug..." but if you pray to god for that chirstians will say "well it wasnt god's plan... he has something better in store for you."

+shamrock yes, that is an excellent point. The crux of it is that, when you start with an assumption that something is true and cannot possibly be false/fake, it becomes too easy to make excuses. It's only when you approach things honestly and openly that you can even begin to see the flaws in the desperate reasoning of the intellectually dishonest dogma that you've been buried under for so long. No matter whether or not you continue to believe in God, I hope that you at least learn to never dismiss rationality in favor of superstition. Stay curious, and good luck!

@@MyTimelord11 what you're saying is true, but that's where counting and statistics come into play... hardly anyone says he/she is a Christian just because one time his/her prayer was answered. That would be really silly. For you to assume that's the basis to the whole prayer argument is really, really reductionist and uneducated. We have a thing called the ability to count, and statistics... thanks. Using these skills we can study life and see that when prayer is implemented and when we are living according to Biblical standards things are more LIKELY to be successful. We can show when something was extremely improbable and prayer was used to have it accomplished. We don't sit there praying for a bunch of random stuff we don't need either... so. When you consider "godly" things to pray for, it really reduces the list of events to pay attention to... so you can, in fact, notice a PATTERN. I will add that most mathematicians are not atheist, and "math" is honestly what modern science doesn't want to reckon with in order to "evolve." Modern scientists are stuck in a decaying paradigm that they refuse to abandon because they don't want to admit to the MURDER they have been condoning through the implementation of said "science" in the medical field. I hope you stop believing that just because they can explain part of a process that God came up with that it makes them any type of logical authority. These people use a cult-like process to accept "knowledge" and you don't need a doctorate in biology to realize this. The scientific method contains many errors of logic. I hope you do more research before you settle for such a reductionist perspective... this wave of atheism is sad to see.

Wow. I already stopped praying awhile back, and started deconverting specifically because I thought it was selfish of me to pray to a God for something so seemingly trivial (either thanks or an ask), when there are people out there going through horrible things and he does nothing. Why should I, in a privileged status and country (compared to much of the world), think that God would and should answer my prayer? And if he does, why should I be happy? What about all the people around the world who are suffering and this God doesn't help them - yet helps me? Then I thought about hell, and couldn't understand how a God who says they're loving would banish people there for eternity. But this is another perspective on faith and prayer that I hadn't even thought about. Wow. It's so true - a lot of good things happen to others without faith / prayer, or to those who believe in a different God. Thank you for explaining everything through so clearly. Sometimes I almost miss what it was like being a Christian, but it just doesn't make sense. And you've really clarified that for me. I know this video is older, but thank you for making this video! Maybe because we are all God’s children, and our concerns matter to him, big or small? I think God created us to tend to each other’s needs. When Jesus walked among us, he healed the sick and hung out with the prostitutes and tax collectors. In his own words: “ (A)I was naked and you clothed me, (B)I was sick and you (C)visited me, (D)I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And (E)the King will answer them, (F)‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these (G)my brothers,[a] you did it to me.’“ In James, it is clearly stated “ For pure and holy ministry before God The Father is this: to take care of orphans and widows in their affliction, and for a man to keep his soul without defilement from the world.” Congrats on thinking independently, though! (No sarcasm intended, God says that a nation does for lack of knowledge!) Indeed, there is a good book called Mountain of Ignorance about how ‘ignorant’ and ‘follower of Christ’ are kinda antithetical. Highly recommended!

Faith is believing something happened without actually witnessing it occur. So you still use evidence when it comes to explaining faith. How do so many people seriously not understand this? It's really sad that people choose not to make sure they're applying language correctly when it comes to such a serious subject. And people wonder how a God might hold people accountable for not believing... it's through this type of extreme negligence/intellectual disaccountability that people are able to ignore the truth. And ignoring the most basic truths in life is what leads to the amount of suffering that is all around. Get it together people. Figure out words mean before you go jumping to conclusions.... WOW

I think that there is a God but I think he is superior any religion on Earth. Why should the white, westerner people have a faviour to be born in to the" right" belief and the 700 million hindus in India be thrown in hell because they were born and raised in to the "wrong" belief? If you think about this you realize that christianity is totally insane.

Happy I found your channel, my friend. I left religion (Christianity) about 25 yrs ago, after being a Christian for about the same length of time. The subject of "Prayer" was actually the 1st thing that started me on my liberation from Christian (religious) belief & superstition. As with the chronic gambler, I realized that I never really counted my losses, only my 'wins.' If I was forced to live that life all over again, I think I would start a journal and log every sincere prayer request, along with the outcome, and then read back over it on an annual basis until I finally woke up to what was actually going on: I was merely talking to myself!

+A Call To Reason exactly what I believe too! I believe that these bigger religions were for some reason "made" intentionally (by whatever or whoever the truth is) to maintain some sort of wall between the human personality and our higher conciousness. My theory (the very brief version) is that we came here to earth, to basically experience all emotions (focusing on the negative ones) in order for each and every one of us to come back to the peace of the universe with the knowledge of black and white. Because before experiencing earth, we only knew white, we basically didn't KNOW anything, we didn't know that what we had was peace because we knew nothing else, there was no contrast and therefore nothing to appreciate, just somewhere to BE. Our non-physical forms intentionally put themselves into a physical body here on earth, to be unaware of who they were before.. hence the birth of our personality. And there begins the rollercoaster of life,
@leonaweibel2400

+A Call To Reason and life is supposed to be harsh. With heavy challenges and difficult choices. And the only way we can fulfill our purpose on earth, is literally just to live, just to feel and especially to make mistakes. To LIVE. Without boundaries. So thinking all day about theories of the afterlife won't make anything "better" here, since very ironically, in this theory, what the bible calls hell, is actually earth. Following a god will unfortunately prevent people from experiencing earth to the fullest. Earth is so goddamn beautiful, because it is so full of life and so full of emotions and movement, and that IS beautiful, regardless if it is considered negative or positive. So the most imprtant thing to remember for me is: don't think TOO much, experience more. Make mistakes, over and over, it is ok. See and hear and appreciate. That's it man. Nothing complicated, just life. This theory has helped me understand that every difficult thing in life has a higher reward.

+Leona Weibel that is definitely a very interesting theory! It's amazing how, even though the details differ, your theory and mine have the exact same end result: this life is meant to be experienced in full, and regret should not be in your vocabulary. This life should always be the focus, not a potential "afterlife." It's beautiful and liberating, if only everyone could see it...

God is Spirit and His kingdom is a spiritual kingdom and it cannot be grasped or explained with our human intellect. God ONLY reveals the mysteries of His kingdom to the DISCIPLES of Messiah.( Matthew 13:11) Most believers in Messiah are NOT disciples and therefore they will NEVER get to understand the mysteries of God's kingdom. . They just 'believe' in God and in Messiah but their beliefs don't not show the reality of it, or they would be obedient to God and don't commit any conscious sin. Faith without works is dead, just like the body without the spirit is dead. 'For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.' (James 2:26) Sin SEPARATES a believer from God. It started with Adam and has continued throughout the ages. 'Your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear (your prayers).' (Isaiah 59:2) 'He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning.' (1 John 3:8) Today's pastors, rabbis, preachers and teachers are ALL separated from God and have become servants of Satan, because of unconfessed sin in their lives. They are blind leaders of the blind. WOE, woe to them. 'But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!'(Matthew 18:6-7)

Putting faith on faith is what most believers do or are coached to do. But come a little trouble here or a bit of anxiety there, and faith vanishes into thin air. And the believer calls out “boloney” or cry “give me faith”. But for disciples of Jesus, faith is based on experience - experiences by walking with Jesus, day by day. Impossible situations and frightening events that the disciple experiences walking and then seeing how the Lord saves and delivers him/her without fail - these create true faith. Believers want and many pray for the gift of faith. But faith has to be learned the hard way. Will you just ask God for muscles or should you exercise, perspire and endure pains to gain strength? Believers should stop being softy believers and become true disciples of Jesus. It won’t be easy but it will be most rewarding.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!! Then "Jesus" should have kept his friggin' mouth shut and not made those promises that if we asked for anything, we would get it -- Matt. 7:7-8; Luke 11:9-10. The problem is that people assume that "Jesus" meant what he said, and then they find out that he was spewing 40 pounds of hot air -- a verbal fart, as it were.

Great questions, thanks for asking! 1) because when I became convinced that Christianity was not true, I began to notice quite quickly just how normalized it was to hear Christians telling their stories and defending their position, and yet it was still fairly taboo to hear the same from a dissenting voice. I wanted to put my story out there in hopes that 1] I could help promote critical thought among believers, and 2] anyone who might be in the same or a similar place that I was would find some kind of comfort in knowing they weren't alone and that others could see the same issue that they did. Growing up surrounded by only Christians who seem to have it all figured out can be really hard when you start to have questions that don't seem to have any good answers to them. 2) I couldn't tell you the exact amount because I haven't even checked in a while, but it's only been a few dollars. And whatever the actual amount, I haven't even received any of it, because I haven't reached the minimum amount that they will send you, and I don't meet the requirements to continue making money anymore since they changed their policy a few years, so I likely will never get anything unless I get back into making videos and accumulate a decent sized audience.

I think prayers are first of all for you. I mean for us, people. We are the one that need the prayers. It calms us down, gives us good feeling that everything will be OK, helps us to be clear about what we want, and how we need to achieve it. Prayers are like meditation. To be thankful for food and for what we have it's also for us. To be happy and positive person it starts from being thankful for the things that you have. Even if no one is there on the other side listening to you, it's so much easier and happier to live when you focus on the positive.

I hear people say that all the time, "focus on the positive." I survived the Boston marathon attack and had a Muslim stalker for 4 years (who was a stranger) who eventually held a knife to my throat and proclaimed his love for ISIS. People kept telling me I wasnt being positive enough. I'm not friends with them anymore. They wanted me to repress what was happening even though I needed that fear to save my life. The stalker has been convicted now for the stalking and leaves me alone. Just be careful telling people to be positive. There are many negative situations in life that no amount of focusing on the positives can erase and too much of that can lead to actual more long-term issues like PTSD-type symptoms. You dont wannabe repressed, in other words. Just some thought. I do like the message though. I happen to believe in the Christian God but have lived life as both athiest and at other times with kind of a more spiritual/"all religions lead to the same path eventually"-type of view. No type of meditation or prayer has given me the same results as praying to God in the name of Jesus Christ while striving to live in accordance with Biblical vales. Just sayin.

It's a famous quote that your video made me think of. I'm trying to say that I don't believe all things that we consider to be blessings come from God. My view on prayer is that though it's fine and good to pray for anything, the only prayer that makes sense is to pray for a closer relationship with God, stronger faith, and to thank him for life. You obviously didn't pay attention to what I actually said. That seems to be a common issue with Christians who watch my videos. The point was that there's no discernable difference between an answered or unanswered prayer, and likewise with good/bad situations between those who do vs those who do not pray. In other words, prayer send to have no effect at all on the outcome of events. Also, the concept itself is completely flawed: if God knows all, including every future event, and if all said events are within his control and plan, praying makes no sense. If you want him to, for example, cure a loved one of yours that is sick, it is either the case that that person was going to get better or they were not, as previously determined by God's plan. Your prayer then amounts to asking God to do what he was already going to do, or along him to change his "perfect" plan to fit your wants. No matter how you look at it, prayer is pointless. I'll grant the exception that some people seem to feel better emotionally/spiritually when they pray, but that's something that could easily happen whether or not God exists. Heck, I can improve my day just by devoting myself to more positive self talk. How is it any different with prayer?

What lots of people (even pastors) don't (yet) understand. For the fall of man a perfect atoning sacrifice had to be made.... that is what God did in Christ. He paid the debt for the fall of man for us to be indwelled by His Spirit again and finally receive the divine life of the ages back, the first Adam let got of in the fall of man. That is what you see happening in Christ's first disciples. They too healed all. And yes.... that is still avaible today. The holy blood is in place, the Holy Spirit is here to give us understanding and transform us back to origin. Not to be debated about, but to be embraced and be-come. So: The Kingdom of God already came. Through Christ, in Spiritform, in those that understand. Hence the divine healing miracles we experience. God manifested in Christ to give us back the divine life mankind lost in the fall of Adam. Christ, the exact image of the invisible God. The image we were created after in Gen 1. The image we lost in the fall of man. The image that can be freely restored by Christ's blood and Holy Spirit working IN us. What a plan. What a solution. What a love. What a God. Jesus is amazing. It is the ultimate conclusion of the word and plan of God. God came full circle. He Himself stooped down from glory to restore us back to original created value: Christlikeness. Walking in divine healing power and unselfish love. Jesus, born of the Spirit of God, filled with the spirit of God. The "Son" of God, the incarnated word, God in the flesh. For three years He healed all, raised the dead, casted out demons, controlled nature, spoke pure divine truth. He said: "Follow Me. If you see Me, you see the Father. The Father and I are one. The glory I have IN My Father, I give to you. It pleases the Father to give you His Kingdom/Holy Spirit/divine nature. I will send Holy Spirit, the same as Me, He will be IN you, guide you into truth and give you explosive power. The same miracles i do, you will do too, because you will understand that the Father is IN Me and I am IN you. Freely I give you My Kingdom/Holy Spirit/divine nature, heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons, freely I give, freely share" Etc, etc, etc. I have experienced thousands of beautifull healing miracles through the power of Holy Spirit IN me already. Broken bones, cancers, covid, all kinds of infirmities healed in seconds. Demons manifesting and casted out by a simple "get out, in Jesus name". Jesus. De name above all names. In Him all power and wisdom is sourced and.... He calls us one with Him. God in man and man in God again. C'mon Jesus!! So.... again: God stooped down IN Christ to restore us back to Gen 1:27 were He said: "Let us make man according to our image and likeness and let them have authority.....": walk as Christ. Christ, the exact image of the invisible God. The image we were created after and being restored to by His atoning blood for the fall of man and indwelling Holy Spirit. You are free to receive this original divine life of the ages by Holy Spirit of Christ/God. Ask Him to guide you into truth. Read the Gospel of John and fall in love with your creator. You are not made for the fall of man and its effects, but for the image/glory of God and to walk like Christ. Holy Spirit is the guide and transforming power that will get you there. Amazing grace. A big leap in faith can be made when we start realizing we are already IN Christ, IN the last Adam. Free from the fall! Loved! Growing into awareness of our new (yet old) godly identity. Changing by Holy Spirit. The most fullfilled life ever. Paul healed all on Malta. He understood and wrote: "As in the first Adam ALL died (lost the divine nature), so also ALL were made alive IN Christ to walk in Zoë (= divine life) again". "IN Christ (the last Adam) we are co-cruisified (dead to the fall and its effects), co-raised (justified/made righteousness, holy, blameless, above reproach), co-seated (one with Him)" "The fullness of deity dwells in Christ and YOU HAVE BEEN MADE COMPLETE IN HIM, who is the head of every principality and power". So.... thank you Jesus! Thank you for redeeming me from the fall of man. Thank you for your Holy Spirit that makes this new (yet old) divine life come alive in me. You are amazing! In the shadow of Peter the sick healed... He understood too and wrote: "By Gods power (Holy Spirit) and knowing Christ, we have become partakers of the divine nature and have escaped the fall of man". The divine life of the ages has been returned to us by Jesus once and for all perfect atoning sacrifice for the debt of the fall of man and His indwelling Holy Spirit in us. Jesus/God is amazing!!! Ask Him to give you revelation and change you to the way it was before the fall of man: Christlikeness. He will do so. For it is written: "the Spirit brings forth after His own kind". "I have come to give you Zoë (divine life) in abundance...."

God is Jesus’ Father, and He is Father to the true disciples of Jesus. We each have our own father. Our fathers - though human, whether weak or strong, able or handicapped - love us to give whatever we ask that they can afford and which they think is helpful and not harmful. But a father will not love another who is not his child to give what he asks. It is the same with God our Father. If one is truly His child, he calls Him Father, and He calls him/her son/daughter. God the Father is infinitely more able, stronger and wiser than any human father can ever be. So when His child prays, the Father answers from on high, His child. Like a human father who dotes on his child, God’s eyes are constantly on His children. God does not love everyone. Anyone who says that God loves all people does not know Him. Ask - which human father loves a child who refuses to acknowledge him as father or who is disobedient to him? Again, ask - which believer can claim to be God’s child when he or she don’t even know who God is or who Jesus His Son is. Believers of the holy trinity doctrine have shut their own doors to know Jesus or God. If you truly know God, He is your Father and He will answer your prayers. Otherwise, no amount of prayers or fasting will avail God answering prayers.

UnderstandableTruth Wow. Absolutely fucking WOW!!!! Ask a human dad if he can love one of his children that deny his existence and even say he's not real? If that dad were a dad of love and compassion, he would love that child anyway. In fact, maybe even more so as that child needs to see to believe. The dad will know for sure when that child has eventually come around to believing in his dad. Bc he asked all the questions and didn't just take his word for it without proof. That child wanted to love his dad, only after learning who he was as a man. The other child that loved him automatically, may not have had the same trust issues or life that the first kid had. Ever think of that? The fact that your simple mind can only fathom a god that loves ONLY the child that acknowledges him, proves that he really isn't a loving god at All. Why would a loving dad hate his child because the child is young, curious and afraid to trust people? Why can't the dad (as more wise, loving and aware of the childs thought process) love his kid without his kid paying him lip service for his own bloated ego? Youre telling me God cant love someone simply becayse that person doesn't believe in something they can't see? How ignorant and repulsive. That god isn't worth worshipping anyhow then.

UnderstandableTruth God is love & God will love us regardless if we believe in him or not. God loved us before we where ever created we don't need to earn he's love because we alright have he's love. God can't just stop loving you if he knows all that you do before you do it. (Image as if I was a god) That's like me hating my son because he stoled candy from a kid but I knew that it was gonna happen. Why would I hate him now & stop loving him if I knew that he was gonna do it day's week's months or year's from now. It's just stupid to just stop loving some one for knowing that it would happen. It's like God creating a soul that God knew that. that soul would never believe in him. Why would God create that soul anyways & send that soul to hell if he knew all along. Should God hate him/her from its day that it was created? It's blasphemy plus life is not about religion its about love.

@ACallToReason
@ACallToReason 3 ай бұрын
Is that really the message you got from my video? That's not even close to why I left. At best, you could say that my upbringing was colored with some aspects of the prosperity gospel, and that finally seeing through those obviously flawed ideas was one part of breaking the spell. If you want the whole story summed up in one ridiculously oversimplified sentence, it would be something more like "I noticed that I didn't have good reasons to believe, so I went looking for better ones and ultimately found that there are none." I'm always open to the idea that I might find good reasons someday, but I've dug in pretty deep and found precisely nothing that even approaches that line. Apologetics and theological philosophy are both completely vacuous, arguing every single case from conclusion to premise, rather than the other way around. You can't get from any sound line of reasoning to a theistic conclusion without inserting God axiomatically somewhere along the way, and that should only ever work for people who are already committed to believing.

@@ACallToReason The Scripture teaches the exact opposite of prosperity bro! Jesus promises us that we will be hated and attacked for telling the truth, that we have to pick up our Cross, and that the whole world is under a curse of sin. The Bible also teaches that we are "more than conquerors" through Jesus. If we are in Christ, we have something MUCH more valuable! One of the reasons I bring this up is that you made an argument against Christianity by claiming that "other religion's prayers get answered", but that has nothing to do with the truth of Christianity, and the "non-prosperity" defense I gave is to target what you were saying there. Next, there's REALLY good reasons to believe Christianity is true!
@ACallToReason
@ACallToReason 3 ай бұрын
@@lizzard13666 the reason I made the statement about other religions getting their prayers answered is that this is not what you'd expect if the Christian God (and ONLY the Christian God) exists. Sure, the Bible says that followers will suffer and struggle, but it also says that ANYTHING that two agree on and ask for, they shall receive (Matthew 18:19). If you have reasons that I've never heard before, I would be truly amazed. I've listened to hundreds/thousands of personal testimonies, amateur apologists, professional apologists, professional theologians and religious philosophers, and historians. Among them, I have not found ONE single convincing reason to believe. There are reasons, sure, but there are counters to every one of them that are far stronger, in my opinion.
@lizzard13666
@lizzard13666 3 ай бұрын
@@ACallToReason Yes, I know why you mentioned other religions getting their prayers answered, and I was just trying to respectfully point out that this is based on an unbiblical view of prayer. "Prosperity" teachings have affected a LOT of people's mindsets! Under the Christian worldview, we WOULD expect non-Christians prayers to be answered. Yahweh is Omnipresent. He "causes it to rain on the just AND the unjust" according to the consistent teaching of Scripture. Here's a passage that directly supports my point: Acts 17:26-28 (ESV) 26 And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, 27 that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, 28 for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’ Hopefully that helps explain why I'm linking that all to prosperity gospel. Scripture CLEARLY states that God helps ALL people. It's certainly not only Christians who can benefit from prayer, and prayer is NOT only about responding with blessings.

For example, I think the reasoning behind prayer is unavoidably flawed, especially any kind of intercessory prayer. Does God know there's a problem? Does he want to fix it? If so, then why do you have to pray in order for him to do anything about it? I can see only a few possible answers: 1. He does want to fix it, but first he wants you to humble yourself and ask him. This is just manipulative and gross. 2. He doesn't want/care to fix it, but since you asked nicely... This one is just bizarre to me, as it paints a very strange picture of this supposedly all knowing and loving being that can be so influenced. 3. Prayer doesn't actually do anything besides affecting the mindset of the person that is praying and possibly the audience of the prayer.

It could be one of the either. So it could be fifty - fifty. But if you have more than a few experiences of producing an effect, after an action,then most likely the action caused the reaction. Christians will thank God for answering their prayers when someone recovers from illness, but completely ignore the fact that it was the hospital treatment that led to their recovery. And they can't get around it by saying that God works through the medical staff because doctors train for years to be good at what they do and they deserve all the credit. He also seems very picky about which people he helps. Children with cancer? Not often. Church leaders with cancer? Rarely, despite all the people praying for their recovery. But of course they'll have their excuses ready: "God is so good, he relieved their suffering and took them up to heaven." Or: "We can't understand God's plan with our limited human minds." Which are just rationalisations for the failure of prayer. The basic truth of the world is that shit happens and prayer changes nothing.

Great video. If I may ask, Muslims think of prayers in the way that God do not actually made it happen instantly by Himself, but rather God made it happen through people, for example, if I really want a red ferrari, then God will give me the strength, facililate my hard work, get rid of the obstacles for me, so I can one day have it, only if I have faith. How do you refute this?
@ACallToReason
@ACallToReason 7 жыл бұрын
+Kazu Kito it sounds to me that the form of prayer you mention is an even bigger cop out. How do know that you couldn't have gotten that ferrari without your prayer, especially since you are aware that it occurred through your own efforts, as well as the efforts of others? It would have been you that applied for the job, your hard earned skills and experience that made you a good candidate for the job, and your hard earned money and credit that made you able to buy the car. Where does God fit in that equation?

Hello, again, I commented on your first video about why you left Christianity, I wanted to try & answer some of the points you raised in this video just like in the last one. Again I just want to say that I understand where you are coming from & I respect your opinions, I just want to respectfully try & answer/defend some of the points you made.: 1. How/why do non-believers have their needs met?: I'd like to refer to Matthew 5:45 "That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." This one is a little tricky but the gist of it is that God provides for all human beings whether they believe in Him or not. In fact in one of his Psalms David complained why the unrighteous were prospering while he & many other believers were going without & this whole idea is prevalent in the Book of Job, why is an innocent man suffering so much when he didn't commit any crimes against God? I'll admit that I don't have a clear answer for this one, I don't know why God chooses to bless & provide for some & not others. None of us are capable of knowing the mind of God, this is a situation where we are to "Trust the Lord with all your heart & lean not on your own understanding." 2. The purpose of prayer: I think you misunderstand the purpose of prayer. Yes we do use prayers as a mean to both ask God to provide for us & to thank/praise/worship Him. But the true purpose of prayer is to cultivate a relationship with God. It's like if you want to cultivate a relationship with your parents or other loved ones you talk to them regularly. In fact that is the whole point of Christianity: "To love God & to love your neighbor." The ways we are to have a relationship with God is by praying, reading/studying/meditating on the Bible, repenting of our sins & by loving/helping our neighbors. Now I don't know if God will or will not provide for your needs if you don't pray but He wants us to pray to cultivate a better relationship with Him. I'll admit this topic is difficult to explain but I hope what I said helps answer what you are wondering. I hope that I helped shed some light on what you were saying. I don't expect you to change your mind & t respect your decision I just wanted to try & give some civil answers in defense of what you said.

You really need to read the Bible all the way through. He gives Blessings to the just and the un-just. He gives everyone Blessings everyday. Prayers are answered. God is not going to give you a Ferrari just because you want it. But, he will provide for your needs. If you see poor people who are homeless and can't feed their children, you should help them. Love your neighbor as you love yourself. Be God's servant and help them. I know God is real because of the things He does for me. Like he provides me with food and money when I need it. I pray for other people, because God knows what I need even before I ask.

This is long detailed reply to your rant. If you had done a little research and praying and studying most of the points you raised as reasons for decamping would have been addressed. Every belief system has a faith based element to it. Science included. Evolution has a faith based element to it. Evolution is not 100% provable. If it were,it would cease to be a theory and become a fact. Therefore it's hypocritical to judge christianity when you act on faith in the unprovable propositions of science!!! 2) You assume that if only christianity were 100% consistent and provable, and all niggling doubts and questions you have were answered then you'd believe. Most, atheists assume so. This isnt true. 100% percent proof wont necessarily lead to belief,you may believe there's a God yet still despite the undoubtable proofs still choose not to follow Him. We see this in daily life all the time. People know they can contract cancer from smoking, yet many people still chain smoke-and then get cancer. Many people take heroine and cocaine knowing it can kill them-yet many still overdose on it - to their death! Many people still have unprotected sex knowing it can give them Aids. 3) You are as usual,biased and hypocritical in writing the bible off as full of contradictions and errors- as usual,your stance takes a faith-based approach. First,if you'll admit, they are more compelling consistencies in the bible than contradictions (assuming the contradictions are really there and unsolvable). There's overwhelming evidence for the divine inspiration of the bible than otherwise. Also, if you were really sincere, and sought to resolve the contradictions,they're many resources that explain the contradictions you see. So in the end, you would find that there's no contradiction at all. Finally, they are many mature christians who were in situations like you were they doubted the bible only for God to give them an answer on a seeeming contradiction later! The bible also says, "we know in part", in the world of science, they're unanswered questions in all fields-mathematics,physics,economics. Yet the practitioners done call the entire fields a fraud. Because they're is enough consistency in the field to keep them going. If you can have much faith in science,how much more God! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- i'll proceed to address you issues here. There's a Q before your quotes: ------------------------------------------- On prayer you say: Q: "I dont think anybody is listening and you just wasting your time talking to yourself" - You dont think- . In otherwords, this your opinion. You opinion is not a fact. It's just your opinion. Touting an opinion as a basis for debunking the bible is nothing but illogical. If you dont think any one is listening, many others THINK SOMEONE is listening and they have scriptures to support their beliefs. Q:"It comes across as ignorant and pompous to assume that all of your blessings come from God" - Christians base their beliefs in the God and His word. And His word clearly states that 'all good things come from above'. The life, the energy,the wisdom etc. The power to get wealth etc. He God is the source of all good things. There's no grounds for claiming this is ignorant-when the bible clearly stipulates it. God is indirectly the source of all goodness. But with that , God may not directly be the source of some blessings. E.g, when a commander visited Elisha the prophet for healing and elisha told him to go dip in the river 7 times. He did, was healed and in gratitude, gave elisha some gifts. Elisha rejected the gifts. Stop to think of it. The gifts were a good thing. They were not evil harmful things but they were not directly from God. Elisha rejected them. You can get success and wealth outside of God. All the world's billionaires are not christians. You can think and reason and grow rich etc. You can do things outside of God. The bible says "Except the Lord build the house,they labour in vain that build it" see there- the labourers DO BUILD THE HOUSE! The bible says that Joshua was to meditate on the word of God in order to have "good success"! The emphasis being on "good success". So a person outside of God can have success but with God, it is good success. You only need to look at modern society to see that despite technological advancement and economic progress, man has failed to create the utopia, he desires by his own hands! Man hasnt had good success. We've experimented with all kinds of economic and governmental systems-yet we've still failed. From dictatorial regimes to democratic regimes. From controlled economies to free market economies. Yet, we still live with a gaping failure all around us. What of the verse that says that "God causes rain to fall on the roof of the just and the unjust". We see in the bible that God is a Just God. he will not ruin the harvest of an unbeliever because he is an unbeliever! And he still blesses the unbeliever to an extent! When Jesus was about to be captured in the garden, Peter drew out his sword and cut off the ear of one of the arresters- but Jesus- healed the ear of his enemy!! If God can do that,then he'll allow the unbeliever reap the reward of his hard work! Q:" if they can get those things without asking God, why do you feel they need to?" - Christian and unbelievers follow different scripts. - Christians obey the bible and the bible clearly states that "we should ask" "ask that your joy may be full" "Let not your heart be troubled" "Pray without ceasing" "By prayer and supplications let your request be made known to God" etc The unbeliever by being an unbeliever has no relationship with God and hence has no compulsion to ask God for anything. The christian by being a child of God has the inclination to table his requests to his/her father as they come up! It's all about relationship. Whether the christian can get it without God is irrelevant, his relationship with his/her father, makes him/her go to the Father with his requests. By seeing God answer his prayers over and over again,the christian's faith grows and strengthens. Q:"Isnt God omniscient- He should already know the wants and needs in your life and He should already know the course of action he plans to take ... " God is omniscient. Yet he created the rules governing the relationship of the christian with him. He requires faith and that the christian should ask first. We also see from the bible that God doesnt intrude on people's will. When Jesus was passing by, blind Bartemeus cried out to Him. Didnt Jesus know that there was a blind man there? He probably knew. What if the blind man kept quiet? he'd stay blind. But he got his sight back only after he asked and BELIEVED that Jesus could do it. i.e exercised faith. God made the rules- and that's it. They're rules in different fields of studies. They're rules in different countries. They're tax rules. etc They're traffic rules. Red means stop, green go. You dont go around criticizing the rules but comply with them to gain the benefit of the system. If God,despite being omniscient requires that we ask him,then that's it. Questioning the rule is pointless. We dont question why government takes 40% of our income- why 40! why not less!! Q:"According to the attributes attributed to God in the bible,your prayers are nothing more than a a self-centered blasphemy" - This is an illogical rant. Yet you claim to have objectively and coldly decided to dissociate from christianity based on cold logic alone!!! Q:"Before God created the first molecule,he knew that you were going to have that want or need , yet he still left you wanting or needing ... " - You switch to an accusatory tone here! He still "left you". Implying that God coldly and sadistically and meanly ignored you in your trouble. Again, there's no objectivity in your statement. The bible is replete with statements showing the heart of God towards his children. But God works through us not for us while we lazily slouch around. If you were a christian,you should know better. You are saying that God ,if he were love, would provide all our needs without us even asking or doing anything. Wow!! Then what would be the need for faith there! How about if every citizen in your country simply lived on welfare! and the government spoonfed them everything they needed! That would be nice wouldnt it? How about if you gave your immature son a million dollars for college while he irresponsibly sits around playing video games all day? You'd be a very responsible dad wouldnt you? My last point addressed this issue anyway. Q:"What gives you the right to alter his divine plan ... " Asking God for things,when God expressly stipulated that you present your needs to him , isnt an alteration of His divine plan. God created man to experience His,God's, love and asking and seeing a prayer being answered convinces man of God's love for him, builds up his faith, and strengthens his relationship with his Maker. God's word says "Come boldly to the throne of grace that you may obtain grace..." This is like a child approaching the father- do fathers feel that a child coming to them is a nuisance? God expressly says, that the christian is to "come boldly" to "approach" to "obtain " . Obtain means get. Again,you spew another unscriptural biase. Q:"I'm sorry but that just doesnt add up. None of them are" - It doesnt add up to you. God didnt create the universe and the laws governing His relationship with his creatures according to you or any man's specification but his? Your opinion or expectations just dont matter. Why is the world round? Why doest it rotate around the sun? Why is there night and day?

When I walked away and decided to research things for myself and come to my own conclusion I was happy, felt liberated but at the same time so angry for the brainwashing effect it had on me for so long. I guess what I'm trying to say is have you really found you...or are you angry and resentful of what you feel was done to you and are really just rebelling? Just wondering what you thought about it. Funny, after listening to you, I still believe in Christ, in prayer, in the Bible, and I have faith. It's interesting that you say "my apostasy". All people are under a common mercy/grace from God, that's why people are blessed whether they believe or not. God causes the rain to fall on the just and the unjust. I bet you and every other unbeliever posting here have faith that you'll be alive tomorrow, but you have no evidence, it is unseen. Morgues are filled with people of that faith. Proof of prayer being answered? Yes, I have many prayers answered directly by God. Now, if you don't agree that my prayers are answered by God, is that proof that God doesn't exist or answer prayers? Are you a parent? A parent that grants every request of their child is not a good parent. God is my Father and He's the good Father -- He's going to give me what He knows is good for me -- even some of the very very difficult things I've been through. There are many videos on youtube here on the same subject with the same position. I pause and laugh real hard occasionally while watching. I find one thing common amongst you all: you are all very extremely intelligent people with a perfectly intact sense of reasoning! That itself is a very efficient enemy of faith. But this is positive!! It depicts a mind that is not out to joke and play games, a mind in sought of tangibility, in the sense of asking God to prove Himself!! To me, that is legit!! I also left Christianity, though I am currently a student of theology. The higher I climb up that ladder of studies, the further it pushes me away from Christianity. My personal discovery is that, every religion, practised well and in good faith that does not comprise the element of hatred or affliction to others will produce tangible results. Results as in peace of the mind and material gains. For, this is an infallible result of a discipline. It is easier to gain orderly discipline with religion, any religion. The question of God though is very complicated. I have had theophanic experiences that makes me afraid of denying his existence. Nobody would deny the existence of the supernatural after having the kinds of supernatural experiences I have had. Can't get into details on that here. I completely reject the New Testament. It is a concoction founded on pagan greek philosophy as evident in John 1:1 (logos). The divinity of Jesus contradicts Exodus 20. And Jesus is nowhere in the old testament all. Christians just sought out passages there in to insert Jesus. I would loved to say more, but I do not want to leave a very lenghty comment. Your position currently is exactly the right spot to be for God to reveal himself.

You got it wrong from your Christian friends. Prayer is a means of programming oneself. It works for atheists too.

The concluding part.... Q:" ... or the way i see it, He's just standing back and letting us do our own thing " - if you really read the bible, you'll see that God created the heavens and the earth. Then gave the earth to man to rule! so yes. He is really standing back and letting man do his own thing. It is an act of contempt and disrespect for a king to invade another kings territory without his permission and impose his will on that king. So the only way God comes into your life to do anything is if you invite him in! In the old testament God judged sin, hence the flood etc but he always acted through a human agency in relating with man. Why? Because, "the earth has he given to man". The earth is man's turf. If man wants to blow himself up with nuclear weapons- fine! Man has free will here. God only intervenes when asked. The only way God could save man was to legitimately enter the earth as a Man-through Jesus Christ! And now, God can intervene in the affairs of man, through Men who have his spirit-Christians. Q:"Faith is a belief held without reason or proof. Or using the fact that your believe something as the reason why you believe it" - Faith is simply believing God's word. Faith is not a belief without reason- the reason for the belief is that God said it. It is a belief without proof- if there was proof then it wouldnt be faith. You dont believe for something you can verify physically. e.g you dont believe for a phone to make a phone call when you already have a phone! You simply pick it up and make the call. You dont need faith there or for that. You simply act on your physical senses. Abraham and Sarah had faith for a baby in their old old age because - God had said so! If God hadnt said they'd have a baby,they wouldnt have had the faith to believe God. Human beings are faith based creatures. Many people have loaned people money on nothing but the word of the person they were loaning on. No evidence no proof just a word! Unfortunately many people have been burned trusting man. people go out looking for a job-with no assurance that they'll get one! No proof,just hope and expectation. Many manufacturers create products with no assurance that people will buy? the sink in millions then when the product is ready they offer to the market. They act in faith. They fear failure. They fear losing it all. But after the first success,they are strengthened in their faith. Q:"... our desire to have proof as unfavourable in the eyes of God " - like i said previously. Faith is based on trust in the word of God. it is inssulting, to doubt. e.g if you want to borrow money but assure your lender that you'll pay him back at the end of the month and your word is not enough to persuade him, you'll feel insulted! further proof simply means, your word isnt good enough. In a society were many dont keep their word,further stronger proof is required. But for a person who keeps his word and never fails, further stronger assurance isnt required. Thomas didnt believe that Jesus was really risen from the dead. He wanted proof. But one day he had an opportunity to stand before Jesus, and Jesus said, put your fingers in my nail-holes. Thomas didnt need faith anymore there,he could see it. He had physical proof. But that was inferior to believing the word of the apostles immediately. We are faith based creatures. We read news headlines - and believe without questioning. All one needs to create a scare is put out false information-and people (with no proof) will act on it out of panic!! People will rush into selling their stocks - if news spreads that the company is going under!- how many stop to question their faith (in the news they heard)? They simply act on it. Q: "It seems the people writing the bible knew that what they wrote about would not hold up under any real scrutiny,so they made sure to include bits to say you must believe without evidence and against all evidence " - The scriptures has been scrutinized heavily and is found to be highly consistent and accurate. - the scientific facts in the bible predates the discovery of the same facts by science again pointing to the fact that the bible couldnt have been an invention of the human mind. - You can only scrutinize something physically comprehensible- but when dealing with a non-physical being , God, who created a physical world, you either believe His word- or you dont. It boils down to choice. Expecting the paradigm to change is pointless. God will not become physical the spiritual realm wont become physical, that's how the system is. - if God isnt a physical being and wont become physical,then, we are left with believing his word or not. Theyre enough facts for the authenticity of scriptures than otherwise. Q:"Since i value logic and reasoning so much it was inevitable that i would someday break through the bonds of indoctrination and brainwashing that were holding me back... " - You talk of indoctrination and brainwashing yet still believing something as ridiculous as evolution!! - You didnt break through anything. You chose to believe what you wanted to believe. Like i said, the materialistic paradigm is a belief system. It is faith-based. It believes that the universe is all materialistic and the material world is all there is to it. It is faith-based also. Yet, they're many factors a materialistic paradigm can't account for. Yet adherents to the materialistic world view,still stick to it! Is that logical? NO! It's faith based. People find a belief system they feel comfortable with then stick with it. The Bible's stand is simply that the world is not only materialistic but spiritual. Without the spiritual dimension , many things dont make sense. To critique the bible,you have to either come at it under it's paradigm or your criticism will be false. The bible says God is a spirit! Angels are spirits! There is a spiritual world, praying to a God you cant see is praying to a spirit. You either believe this or you ignore it. But the choice is up to you. However, if you critique the bible while dropping the spiritual dimension from your criticism, you argument becomes invalid. Q:"unless we set up walls of faith that sets up along the path that is TRUE" - here you are asserting as a fact that the material/logical paradigm is all there is. And hence that is the only TRUE paradigm. Q:"You pray to maintain your faith, and you have faith that your prayers are effective " - my other posts addressed this. - Christians dont "pray to maintain their faith"- they pray to God and believe in God's word. God's word is the origin of faith. When God's word comes,then faith comes. Abraham didnt have the confidence to believe God for a baby in his old age, until God told him so! Q:"Other than something like that could you obviously say that what you prayed for could not have happened other than supernaturally" - They will always be room for doubt in christianity. Because, you are dealing with a spirit being,God, who doesnt have a physical form. The bible says that God is a spirit. The element of doubt is there because, we are dealing with an entity we cant see or physically comprehend and we as humans are prone to believing only what we can physically comprehend. But a christian dealing with a God he cant see, has to act on His word. And His word says, "... if you ask anything according to His will, he hears you,and if he hears you,then you have the petitions you desire". So the bible is the only standard for belief in christianity. But as a christian grows in Christ and his word, as he comes to see a string of answered prayers,his experiences also become a confirmation that those answers were not just blind chance. There's also something else to note. if something occurs after an event that was initiated to make that thing occur, it's most likely that, the first event triggered the second. e.g If you pass by the street saying hi to people, and some said hi back. Is is likely that people would have said hi to you without you saying anything to them first? Yes. But is it also likely that people said hi to you because you said hi to them first, Yes. But can you then say, that saying hi to people so that they'll say hi back to you is a ruse because it's most likely that people could have said hi to you without your initiating it? No! There's also another issue here. Though God cant be seen or comprehended physically. The bible makes it clear that he is not unreliable. And that any transaction with him will not fail because his word doesnt fail. Jesus said, heaven and earth may pass away but His word will never pass away. Q:"I'll reiterate my question, if prayer works because of God ,then why do people who dont pray to God etc still have their wants and needs " - i addressed this earlier. - God is a just God. He causes rain to fall on the roof of the just and the unjust. He will allow any man reap and enjoy the fruit of his labour,whether that man believes in him or not. Egypt was a godless nation. Yet, they were prosperous. They planted grain and harvested it. They had children,God didnt automatically make all mothers of godless nations barren. He didnt cause crop to grow only on the land of those who believe in him. Q:"The way i see it, if you can explain it without God,then God is not the explanation" - again this is your opinion. Your opinion is irrelevant in establishing the truth. - If you can explain it without God,then God MAY NOT be the explanation- not GOD IS NOT (here you switch to absoluteness) based on an opinion! Proving that you believe what you want to believe. Like i said in the greeting example: do people say hi to you because you said hi first (i.e did a cause (prayer) produce an effect (an answer)) or do people say hi to you ...
