In this video, I dive deep into a salary comparison between India and Canada, taking purchasing power parity (PPP) into account. Despite adjusting for PPP, many professionals in India are still underpaid compared to their counterparts in countries like Canada. I explore why the Indian working class should seriously consider moving abroad, highlighting the potential benefits of working in developed economies.
Throughout the video, I discuss key reasons why Indians living abroad often make significantly more money and enjoy a higher quality of life. Whether you're in the tech industry, finance, or any other field, this comparison will help you understand the true value of your salary and the potential financial advantages of working overseas.

I think your title itself is misleading. When you say highly skilled professionals, they don't make around 7 L/A in India, when I came to canada last year my salary in India was around 40L/A in Gurugram with lesser taxes than Canada. The only reason that I decided to stay back was because I was able to find a comparable job in Canada, which I know most people, at least, at my professional level don't. I am seeing hundreds of skilled professionals leaving Canada because of the glass cealing that you have here in terms of growth. In India the average salary hike is 7-8% and inflation is 5% so your salary technically is increasing by 2%, however, until very recently the inflation in Canada was around 4% and and salary hikes were around 2%, so, technically your salary is decreasing per year as you are not even able to beat the inflation. Yea I agree, people who are not able to make it in India should try and explore abroad; however; highly skilled should not even think about it. And morover, things in India are only going to get better but sadly, I can't say the same for Canada with the way things are going.

You miss the most important two points, work experience and what degree you study here in Canada. I live in Victoria, BC. I came here with 10 years of experience previously working as a manager in my field. Let me tell you there is still a possibility of me landing a job here given my experience and the degree I've taken up, which is a Master's. If you are studying a diploma or even a fresh graduate without experience, forget pay parity you will be highly underpaid here in Canada. Honestly with the rates of rent, groceries and expenses in big cities whatever you earn as a starting package is just not enough. Trust me before you choose to come here or anywhere in the world, think about your experience, see what your strengths are and then decide if you want to leave India. There are several things bad about India but there are many things good about it too.

Dear Piyush thank you for sharing such negative views about India 🇮🇳 But how about Canada 🇨🇦 I have an example take some time to read this comment Yesterday I was coming back from work and reached Richmond Town Centre in BC I went to the mall and came back Normally each one of us who walks on the road uses the button to turn the traffic lights to cross the road 🛣️ In front of me a group of very young children who were teenagers white caucasians or citizens we can say they came and start spiting on that button that public uses in their daily lives. When I talked to them and tried to explain how bad it is for them or other people, how disgusting it is or unhygienic or dirty for you and the public. After listening, they took it so lightly that they all started spiting it as soon as I turned my face. They were also passing racist comments and I think they were less than 10 years old. This is the problem in the Canadian Society too that too much freedom gives them liberty to misbehave on the streets and among public. Please consider these facts as well. Their parents are to be blamed too because they have not been strict like what out parents taught us. So publicly spiting and throwing garbage 🗑️ in very common in Canada 🇨🇦. I am your subscriber your videos have been very informative and I listen to you but you don’t even have 100k subscribers and you are judging a country with 1.4 billion population and the one you came from. End of discussion, this video has been very biased and exaggerated

That’s horrible what you experienced. Those teenagers should learn some civic sense. Do you think if I have 100K or 100M subscribers Salaries in India will go up? Because that’s the only thing I addressed in the video. Which part of the video is exaggerated? Time stamp please. The salaries in India are VERY LOW. The Taxes in India are VERY HIGH. The civic sense in India DOES NOT EXIST. The concept of personal space in India is UNKNOWN. Despite all that, I still love India. And despite 2% of the people being unhygienic and unmannered, I still love Canada.

Comparing salaries between two completely different economies does not add much value. Even if someone makes $75k in Canada, they need to spend EXPONENTIALLY MORE on housing, car, insurance, utilities, food, transit etc. compared to India. So honestly, someone making $75k may struggle to even survive in Canada, but someone making Rs 13 lac per annum in India might actually be saving 20,000 per month comfortably - with all aisho aaram. Also, this video failed to explain how much money people need to spend on jackets, winter tires, car damage due to rusting and other stuff related to Canadian winter. Not to forget - the medical system in Canada sucks, there backwardness in every sector, the quality of immigrants is what you’ll find in Bihar. No innovation in Canada, and a country full of Uber drivers. Don’t even dare to compare Bangalore with Canada
@PiyushCanada
@PiyushCanada 3 ай бұрын
Brother the whole point of the video is to provide a fair comparison, which I did using Purchasing Power Parity (PPP). Even after adjusting for the cost of living, the fact remains that salaries in Canada are generally higher for the same roles, and that makes a difference, especially when you’re talking about long-term savings and financial growth. Yes, things like housing, insurance, and utilities are more expensive in Canada, but the earning potential also tend to be much greater. People in Canada can still save and invest at a higher rate compared to India, even factoring in the higher cost of living. As for the extra costs like jackets and winter tires, those are just seasonal expenses, not everyday financial burdens. The Canadian medical system isn’t perfect-no system is-but it’s far better than what many people experience in India. I am sure you remember high-profile cases like the Gorakhpur tragedy, where dozens of children died because the hospital ran out of oxygen supplies. Corruption, underfunding, and a lack of infrastructure plague many parts of the Indian healthcare system. I KNOW BECAUSE I HAVE LIVED IN INDIA AND HAVE EXPERIENCED IT MY WHOLE LIFE AND SO HAVE YOU. So while Canada’s system has its flaws WHICH I CLEARLG MENTION IN OTHER VIDEOS, it still ensures access to essential care for everyone, which can’t always be said about India’s healthcare sector. Comparing the quality of immigrants to Bihar makes no sense. Many highly skilled professionals come to Canada and contribute massively to its economy and innovation.

I am an Indian and I can understand Indians trying to defend India but saying that life is better in India than in Canada is utter nonsense In India things are cheap but the value of human life is even cheaper Just recently a woman died of rabies because she was bit by a dog and she still got rabies even after getting the vaccines Why? Because that doctor didn't know how & where to inject the vaccine properly I am only pointing out just 1 case Because of rampant corruption, pollution and politics of caste & religion common middle class hard working indians aren't getting their due returns I can write a lot more here but those who get it will understand from this paragraph only

Bro you mentioned a senior auditor earning 13.70 lakh in India and same rank earning CAD 80k in Canada yearly. After taxes and such fast pace life style where you have to work your household chores and managing your kids schooling/lifestyle I think Canada doesn’t make any sense. Atleast it takes CAD 4500 per month in Vancouver/Surrey for husband, wife and 1 kid living on rent and drive a normal average car. So how is it worth it in Canada. Moreover kids in govt schools are having worst time and zero learning in Canada and private school you cannot afford with CAD 80k salary. If both husband and wife are working then you can afford a private school for 1 kid only at once but then you don’t have time to spare for your kids upbringing. In Canada kids need time so that they get on a wrong track in life. They need your time and emotions specially in Canada. You will be a middle class family in Canada and I think it’s not worth it staying away from your family and local culture. If anyone got a generational wealth in India they have an opportunity in life because it would take 2 generations hard work to make something good in Canada. I agree that you will get a lot of opportunities to earn money in Canada but remember money earning is a priority till a certain age after that you start thinking about your family and your kids. Money cannot fulfil the time or emotions that lack in between family members. In Canada you don’t have time for your family members. Please share your thoughts

I respect your study, but one important point is missed. Most of the students come by taking a student loan, and its an enormous amount to be repaid with interest, additionally the possibilities for permanent residency is dying drastically and with that into consideration, the 3 years of work permit meaning 36 months of earning potential with occasional india trip; is this even enough duration to recover your investment and make good returns on your investment of 5 years and sacrifices living afar from loved ones and family??

I am in Canada and just completed my studies. Husband and wife both working in high earning jobs like after taxes and expenses atleast saving CAD 13000 per month collectively then they will be able to pay off their loan and have some saving to do something good back in India. This saving process will take 3years minimum or 5 years. But remember when you return to India you need good money in hand and be ready to work in India or start a business because just using money which you earned will not suffice you longer so return and start working in India if you want to.

Good video. I didn’t know there was that much of a difference. Overall, there is no possible way to include a full analysis of qualitative and quantitative factors in a single video but you’ve done your best. You might have framed better arguments in ‘quality of life’. Exploiting labour for cheap rates still happens which makes the life of upper middle class easier. Then you confused quality of life with work culture. Work culture for sure is more toxic in India. Politicians send their kids outside for ‘studying’ but if they’re affluent in India, they can match a similar level of quality of life in Canada too, they don’t need to work at part-time jobs basically. Anyway, I personally think the quality of life is better in Canada so I agree actually, but it depends on what your economic status in India is.

If you face medical issues you will straight run to India then why this hypocrisy.
@PiyushCanada

Which part of this video is hypocrisy? Can you point out a timestamp. Unless you’re new here, which I assume you are, I frequently discuss how government-funded opioids are harmful to society. I also share my personal experiences with the Canadian medical system and have made a couple of videos about my friends’ experiences with it. In fact, I even had the chance to interview someone who works within the Canadian medical system, so I’ve been very transparent about everything. And yes, India is my country. What’s wrong with visiting or returning to India? You claim it’s hypocrisy to come back to India-why is that a bad thing? Why can’t I visit my own country? Who’s going to stop me? I also don’t understand the homophobia among some Indians. What’s wrong with being lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender? Everyone deserves equal rights, so why so much hate toward someone’s sexuality? If you’re struggling to integrate and assimilate into Canadian culture, that’s your problem, not mine. Don’t make it a group issue-it’s about you, not me. You mentioned I “live and breathe Indian culture,” but I don’t know what you mean by that, and what’s wrong with enjoying Indian culture? You talk about it like it’s a bad thing. I love Indian culture. So, what’s your point? I really don’t understand your argument.

You previously mentioned that the salaries for Business Analysts in Canada recently dropped due to an increased availability of BAs, and a similar trend can be observed in India. With every job posting in India attracting many applicants, companies are aware that they can find the right fit within a given salary range, which drives salaries down. Regarding the population issue, if we compare the population with the jobs available, land, and resources, Canada actually has more resources and land but only a population of 40 million (4 crores). Despite this, unemployment has risen to 6% and is growing. Interestingly, despite Canada’s vast landmass (the second largest in the world), housing affordability is a significant problem, with the average house costing $650,000 (about 3.9 crores) across different provinces. In comparison, the average house in India costs around 20 lakhs when considering all states. In India, a family of four can live and eat, even on rent, with around ₹15,000 per month-though it may be a bit congested. In Canada, however, rent has skyrocketed, and a family of four cannot live on less than $2,500 (about ₹1.5 lakhs) per month. Moreover, Canadian law doesn’t permit four people living in one room, unlike in India, where people can manage even in smaller spaces.

But if you decide to be in India then be happy and content and try to get better deal and please don't keep thinking only about being under paid and getting exploited all the time. It will only make us feel frustrated.

boss your logic is not true. you have missed job progression and growth. In Canada you will be stuck, salary increase will never outpace inflation. purchasing power in canada will decline , however in india your standard of living will improve as you progress.

Data compiled from 4 sources: As of the latest data for 2024, India’s inflation rate stands at approximately 3.65% (CPI as of July 2024) . On the other hand, Canada’s inflation rate for August 2024 is 1.2%, excluding mortgage interest costs. So, in a nutshell, India’s inflation rate is higher than Canada since it’s a developing country.
