Country White Jamaican otherwise known as Miss Mel, tells the story of what caused her and her family to leave Jamaica. This is not Miss Mel's usual style of video because normally she talks about the happier memories and the fun side of living in Jamaica for over fifty years.
This time she is asking you to bear with her as she shares this emotional story as a part of her healing process.
Mel: I love and appreciate all my viewers in and out of Jamaica. Jamaicans find each other wherever we are and support each other. We are FAMBILY!

That’s awful situation. I am American but I love Jamaica. I was able to stay there for four months and I found so much peace there I didn’t want to leave. I thank God that he kept me safe while I was there. It is a beautiful place. It’s sad to have to go through that. ☹️Thank God no one was physically hurt.

So what do you think about the 300 mass murders including shooting of babies in schools in America from January 2023? What do you think about the storming of the Capitol and killing of security forces? What do you think of mass murders in Synagogues, churches, and killing of black people in America because of the color of their skin? What do you think of criminals going into homes of members of Parliament and celebrities and the general public and killing them? By no means do I condone the criminality that was done to her, but Jamaica is not the worst place on earth. In spite of the challenges of criminality, there are still good people in Jamaica who are living happily there.

Hello, Ms. CWJ. Thanks for sharing with us your audience, the heartbreaking story of leaving home. I can feel the sadness within you. So many a Jamaican has emigrated because of violence. Millions of us living in the diaspora feels the very same. We came to America, Canada,England or wherever we finds ourselves to make a better life for ourselves and family with the hope of one day retiring back home to warm weather to live out the rest of our days but it will not happen for most of us because of this rampant crime that is everywhere. I had a coworker for over 22 yrs at my job and she left recently to go back to Ghana where she's from and she said in Ghana murders is almost unheard of. Not like we have in Jamaica where it's a lifestyle to just kill someone who "diss" you.

Bad things happen everywhere...In Jamaica and everywhere else including New Orleans. I have property in Jamaica so when I speak of my heart aches about Americans moving to Jamaica it is through the context of my homesickness not from resentment. Americans have been moving to Jamaica for years and some of them are my friends. As to Jamaicans moving to America for hundreds of years that must have been on slave ships because that's how my ancestors got to Jamaica. I made my comment because I am homesick and you are taking my comment out of context. My "White" Jamaican ancestors left Jamaica over 100 years ago, and we still know about it. The reason they left has been lost to our knowledge, but my grandmother was very proud of her Jamaican roots and made it a point that we remember and honor our Jamaican heritage. Good thing you didn't come to the USA, because that's going on EVERYWHERE here. I even entertained a thought of returning to Jamaica, but it sounds like it's as bad as anywhere else. It's lazy 😝 Jamaicans like you who come to the United States and benefit from what America has to offer but you claim you love Jamaica. Lol! Many of you same Jamaicans come to Canada and the United States and you insinuate crimes and you terrorize your own Jamaican people and you want to blame Americans for your savage behavior. Well, if you don't like the United States then go back to your poor little Island and make your little country a better place , or shut up.

It's funny how these American people are on here talking about Jamaica and how bad it's become and is and they act like our country is the worst. America is a laughing stock right now because of all of the foolishness going on but somehow they always find ways to put down other countries. How about we should tell people to stay away from America or Canada because neither of those countries truly likes blacks and that's a fact????? Crime is everywhere and hearing a white person talk bad about a black nation is laughable. Karma comes to everyone and their ancestors have opened the doors for Karma to strike them. Crime is everywhere and Jamaica is no different. Our country is how it is because our government keeps pandering to the whites and Chinese who are just taking over our country and trying to erase our history and take our land. No one ever talks about that. Crime is wrong but when you have leaders who sell out our land for individual profit then people are going to do what they need to survive. Stay away from us then if it's soooo bad 💯💯💯

Crime is everywhere now but the advantage of living a large Country such as the US or Canada is that you can be buffered from it more easily. What a sad world we live in! It seems there is no escape from evil. Jamaica is such an incredibly beautiful place but tainted by crime. The same can be said of most of the Caribbean Islands now. When I grew up in St.Lucia in the old days it was a paradise. My mother used to sleep with her window wide open. I was spoilt really and though I was always grateful for living in such a beautiful place, but things gradually changed; people began to get more disrespectful and I could sense the change. Our house on the hill got broken into so many times. Now I understand that there are gangs in St.Lucia and murders, robberies, assaults and rape are frequent occurrences now. So very sad. The human being has become savage again. All norms and decency are now thrown out the window. Dog eat dog is what they used to call it. When my ancestors came to the islands from Europe they wanted to escape conflict and klan rivalry. Now there is no where to turn to. May God bless you and your family. You are beautiful.

Your story is so typical of why so many left Jamaica. My grandmother was hone alone when she heard the pigs squealing. She thought it was stray dogs again and got my grandfather's double barrel bird gun, then she saw two men crouching in the pig pen and let off one barrel. My grandparents had a little butcher shop on premises but only sold meat on Friday, Saturday and sometimes Sunday. The rest of the week we sold beer, soda, bun and cheese and canned stuff. At the time of the theft a set of construction workers had gone to the shop to buy drinks and cigarettes, then they heard the gun shot and went to investigate. Those thieves got the beating of their lives before the police came and I doubt they would ever want to set foot in that district again.

One of the problems is that criminals are seemingly always able to return to the streets quickly, as convictions are elusive. I’m so sorry you and your family had this experience Mel. It saddens my heart so much when I hear of incidents like these which really dampen the true beauty of our island and its people. I’m back in the UK, my birthplace, just because of how my life evolved, having grown up in Jamaica gone to school there, with you. I have carved out a good life here but have always been hopeful to return to Jamaica for good at this stage of my life. I go annually, sometimes twice a year, and I have family and great friends there including my sister, but there is always a thought in the back of my mind of the possibility that something of a violent nature could take place. I’m thankful you, your family and the lady that worked for you were not harmed. God is good. 🙏🏾💕

I am so sorry you had such a terrible experience in your home. This happened to me in Florida, and it really traumatized our family for years. Unlike you, we had no place to go. We had just moved to America from Kingston, in Jamaica. We just bought that house, too, and as new immigrants, we were stuck. It was two of them, and they followed us home from our business. The hardest part was how one of them put the gun to my little girl's head... she was only seven. She had flashbacks for years. It's funny that the reverse happened to us as we had never experienced anything like that in Jamaica. So you see, crime can happen anywhere. My husband was held up on his job too by gunmen, several times in Florida, and once while visiting friends in New York, right at the gate one night. We used to say he was not meant to die by the gun because it was so uncanny. Imagine leaving a place known for violence, only for it to happen to you in a " safe" place. Despite everything, we thrived and did well. We have now retired...in Jamaica😅 and are doing well. We are living near the beaches and have a lovely property too. We are taking our chances. It has been 16 years now. I understand your situation and see how much you miss your home. I wish you and your family a safe and happy life ❤😊
