As someone who was born in the UK, grew up in America, and has recently moved backed to England for good the thing you touched on towards the end of the video is my soapbox for anyone who will listen. Having universal healthcare and more robust social welfare programs is of course incredible for the fact that you don't have to carry the burden of that immense stress and fear of not being able to afford medical care for yourself or a loved one, but even beyond that I think it's such a psychological weight that many Americans don't even realize they're carrying to know that they could at any time be at risk of death for something that is preventable with relatively few resources, but your society has already made the decision that your life is not inherently worth the expenditure of those resources.That you have to earn the right to basic care at your most vulnerable. Of course many Americans recognize the problem, but I think the more subtle effects of that overall community mindset makes living in places with stronger wealthfare systems than the US such a mentally healthier experience in general
@NoelleMar4 жыл бұрын
pointlessusername23 Something I don’t understand is how willing people are to attempt to navigate the absolutely mind boggling healthcare system here (in the United States). That alone, especially when you are not well, is extremely stressful and confusing. Then all these studies say that Americans often make bad decisions about healthcare. Well, yeah?? It’s completely baffling!! And, according to SCIENCE, making difficult decisions is very energy consuming and stressful. And people involved in the industry only know their niche, don’t have time, or don’t have it in their or their employers interest to help you figure it out. But I guess people don’t mind being wrong?? Or making bad decisions? I suppose in the United States, I feel like it’s better to make a bad decision confidently than to wait for enough information or to not know what decision to make. That makes you “weak” and incompetent lol.

@NoelleMar4 жыл бұрын
@ Ok but the United States has individuals richer than the entire country so maybe THEY should pay higher tax rates? Like we have that and still “don’t have enough for healthcare.” If you’re poor or marginalized, I get why you wouldn’t want money going to a government that trashes you. But I don’t get why you wouldn’t want taxes to go to healthcare that would help people in need if you can afford it. I genuinely don’t. We’re literally talking about people’s lives.

The landscapes are beautiful, the climate is great, people are nice, there are sooo many beautiful things to do and see and the food is AMAZING (I am the biggest picky eater and I love Madeira’s food also it is surprisingly very different to continental Portugal’s food). Also there are some seasonal “events” that are super cool, during Christmas time they decorate all the island with lights, for New Years they have a firework show across the whole island, in the spring they have a flower festival and carnaval (kinda like the one in Brazil) and so much more. I truly have loved this place when I’ve being there and hope to be able to go back and obviously think you should go.

You should go to Greece! Specifically, Monemvasia, Kythira, and Crete are really fun. Obviously there's a lot of really nice beaches but I guess depending on when you go, it might be too cold? Monemvasia is like a fortified castle island that has cobble stone paths and lots of cute restaurants and historical sites you can visit, the top of the mountain also has a great view of the ocean and the nearby towns. Kythira is an island in between the mainland and Crete, they have a lot of cool hiking places with really old church ruins and monasteries. There are also some areas that are surprisingly forested/green. Crete is a big island so there's a bunch of different things you can see but I would really recommend going to palace of Knossos in Heraklion (supposedly the Minotaur was kept in a maze under the palace) and the Museum of Typography in Chania which has old printers and displays on bookbinding methods.

Countryside/Seaside: Cornwall, Devon, the Lake District, the Cotswold, Anglesey, the Storr (or all over the Scottish Highlands - bring warm clothes!!!) Those are probs my fave, but there are so many amazing and diverse places in the UK. My fave European cities are Amsterdam, Venice, Paris, Nice, Berlin, Munich, Prague, Lisbon, Porto, Dubrovnik, Athens, Barcelona, Krakow. All are best to visit off season (very busy between June-September, or around Christmas time) as there are less tourists, and I personally prefer to explore cities when it's cooler. For scenic regions/ places: the Amalfi coast (Italy), Lake Bled (Slovenia), Hallstatt (Austria), Trolltunga (Norway), Lake Garda (Italy), Tuscany (Italy). You should visit Austria! The only reasons I can think of are that our food is good and that we have lots of mountains. I´m not sure, these will convince you, but I live in Austria and I think it´s pretty amazing :)

Get the sleeper train (with crumpets) to Fort William in the the Scottish West Highlands. The train goes through some of the most remote and gorgeous scenery in the country, and then you get to hang out in the mountains where a bunch of Harry Potter was filmed and drink really good whisky.
