I made a video a few years ago about why I stopped carrying micro/subcompacts and it has done well for all the wrong reasons... well here is a followup about why I ONLY carry 1911s now. Let's see what the internet has to say about this one.

At 14 I learned on my dad's 1911. At 20 I qualified expert pistol in the Navy on a 1911 and that was 50 years ago. All I've ever carried is a 1911 pattern pistol.

As a FUDD who first carried a 1911 .45acp in the USMC from 76'. As a PD it was a custom 1911. As the years went by and arthritis sent in the .45acp limited my practice. Hence, it's now a Staccato 2011 9mm that I can shoot all day...yep with a Holosun. So now I'm a cool FUDD. Semper Fi ✝️ 🇺🇸

If you are going to carry a 1911 then this is the way to do it. This actually goes for any pistol. If you carry multiple pistols with a different manual of arms, you are asking for trouble in my opinion. If you carry a G19 a lot but want something smaller on a particular day, then choose a G26. I also recommend that like the example I just gave, you stick with the same manufacturer, whether it’s S&W, Glock, or Sig, and in that same line/model. Personally, I carry S&W J-frame revolvers, just in different barrel lengths and grip sizes, but all have the same sight picture and trigger pull. Consistency is key.

I much prefer 1911s for the same reasons you speak of in your video. However, striker-fire polymer platforms are just so much more affordable for the "common man's'" income. It is the price point that generally keeps people away from reliable, highly accurate 1911s - not the platform alone.

The first weapon I was issued in the military as a medic in 1985 was a Springfield 1911… that was what I carried in civilian life also. When the military changed to the Beretta 92 (M-9) I became very familiar with its weaknesses… and strong points… as years passed I bought a Taurus 92 series because of its cross over features of the two… yet remaining fully aware of it’s shortcomings also… “BUT!” I still carry a Springfield 1911 because of its proven reliability and stopping power even though it has a lower capacity, it’s heavier, but is thinner and easier to conceal carry… as long as the world doesn’t fall apart and I don’t have to be concerned with aggressive bands of roaming gangs of thugs… at that point I may be forced to carry a larger capacity… 3 mags with 7 rounds of “.45 ACP” = 21… or 3 mags with 15 rounds of 9mm = “45”… I see it as that either way, I’m carrying 45 😎👍

Hale good morrow from the middle of nowhere Wyoming, O fellow bourbon Imbiber! Thank you for once again proving why I subscribed to your channel and look forward to your vlogs when they pop up on my feed! You presented an outstanding expository that should never be condemned by any right-thinking person: you didn't condemn anyone else's carry choice, you didn't condemned anyone's caliber choice, you simply provided positive, constructive engaging reasons as to why you have your choice and how that can help others! I'll never be able to afford any of the weapons on your platform that you use, nor any of the $1,000 1911 choices that are around. It'll take me about 5 or 6 months to save up to afford a mid-level Girsan 1911's in 9 mm, which is one of my goals, and another 6 months to save up for that gearson T14 and 380 auto, though at the top of my list is that Kel-Tec 410 gauge bullpup shotgun for home defense. Your primary point concerning caring what you shoot the best with and with which you feel most comfortable when you're out and about is the primary reason everyone should cheer your vlog: personal choice amidst competency in execution of defense. Kudos for yet another excellent vlog! Cheers from the Oil Patch in Central Wyoming

When the bullets jam like that, just bend your extractor so it’s not gripping the bullets so tight . “1911s have a couple hundred rounds before you break them in” That comes from the extractor pin thing loosening over time. (I’m new to guns so I’m not too familiar with the words). 99% of the issues of the 1911 jamming is just that. You can test it out but putting a live round on it and shaking it a bit. You’ll see that the bullet sits too tight. I bought a ruger sr1911 9mm. I’m dead accurate with it however the bullets kept jamming into the ejection part. I was trying to figure out why, and I found only 2 KZbin videos that talked about it. I learned how to fix it with those videos. I 100% agree with you about 1911s. I have an sig p320c, and I have shot thousands of rounds just to get somewhat accurate… 1911 was love at first sight. I can hit bullets between the eyes from 15 yards away. 5 inch barrel. 9mm because .45 is outdated and not necessary. It was only $639 and it has an aluminum frame. Perfect

Good arguments for carrying the 1911. I have carried a 1911 in .45 for years and it is the only handgun I own. I agree with almost everything except the Red Dot. I only put Red Dots on rifles and rely on iron sights for my daily carry 1911. But that's just my opinion, your mileage may vary. Thanks for the video. Occasionally, when the weather permits the appropriate dress, I’ll carry my 5” Kimber. I’d carry it more often but I have other guns that conceal better and frankly have more capacity. But my Kimber is an accurate, reliable and cherished pistol. It’s all stainless steel with a matte finish. I polished the flats of the slide serrations and a few other parts. Now it looks as good as it shoots. Of all the pistols I own, this one gives me the greatest pride in ownership.

With clean mags, and decent ammo, it runs good and reloading is smoother than a smith and wesson or ruger. When reholstering a pistol with a hammer, make a habit of holding your hammer with your thumb for extra safety. This way, you don't trip the trigger. Don't just religh on your safety.

I typically carry an hk mp5k on a single point sling under a button up shirt with no less than 8 magazines alongside a backup vp9 with no less than 6 magazines and this is just my “run to the convenience store” loadout. You can never be too careful in today’s society. I live in constant fear and leaving the house with no less than 200 rounds on hand is my bare minimum. Every American should own a 1911. The negative comments about EDC 1911 is usually from folks who have never carried one. They read on a forum everything they know about the 1911. You can tell because they always say the same thing too heavy, unreliable, low capacity etc. etc. If a 1911 is too heavy man up and hit the gym wimp. My Father carried one into his 70s. Low cap. is BS too. Most of you will never fire your gun outside of a range. Sorry but the chances you get into a John Wick or other BS movie shootout in your life is almost zero. Even cheap 1911s are reliable if you clean and lube it like you're supposed to.

The Dickens shooting did not occur at 40yds. Per his own testimony he advanced to a support stanchion to brace himself the farthest of which was 20yds from the shooter (There were three stanti0ons in the food court). The closest was about 10yds. Never was clarified which one he fired from. Unfortunately the internet won't let go of a bullshit claim that was never made by the actual person involved who understandably, didn't want to talk about it since he wasn't supposed to be carrying in the mall in the first place. (Which I am not being critical of him for)

I EDCed a Colt Commander for many years. But about 7 years ago I finally got my dream gun - a stainless .45ACP Ed Brown Kobra Carry 1911. Whatta pistol. It's dead-on accurate, it's NEVER malfunctioned (and I shoot a lot) and it carries like a dream. The modern capacity fetish for civilian EDC is nonsense borne of watching too many John Wick movies. 🤪 Nine rounds in the pistol and a 10 round spare mag are more than sufficient for a civilian EDC.

I’ve daily carry a 1911 since 1985, I carried one on duty for a vast majority of my career , until I was forced to carry a Glock 21 ( but still carried a 1911 off duty). But in all honesty the Glock 19 ( for that matter any Glock) that’s modified, leads to issues with them. I’ve seen this so many times in firearms class, schools and competitions.

Im definitely better with a full sized handgun. From 20 yards i definitely can shoot tighter groups then with my edc 365. But i can still hit a man sized target out to 100 yards fairly easy with my 365 and from 50 and in im definitely a minute of man shooter with it. When you factor in how easy it is to carry for hours on end with zero printing and the reality of actually pulling it I find ease of carry more important. Yes my groups are larger but what does that actually matter? Im going to hit the target with it every time and thats plenty for me. Carrying a big gun is hard and uncomfortable when we are talking having it on you for 12 hours. It depends on your actual true threat level is.

Carry the biggest pistol you can get away with hiding on your body. The smaller the pistol the more recoil. Believe it or not a 1911 is very slim and conceals well for a big pistol. Maybe folks would be better served carrying single stacks for just that reason. A 9mm 1911 is sacrilege. If its a 1911 it was designed and made to shoot .45ACP.

All ur points are valid, but i disagree with the high maintenance. U just gotta clean the feed ramp n chamber every so often. If u have a good extractor like a wilson and a good wilson recoil spring theres not much that can break. Very few parts on 1911s and even fewer springs than most models of firearms. And springs usually wear out first. Stay safe.

@defconcreative Thanks for the reply. I'm not knocking you. 99.99% of us never have to experience a gun down due to trade shows. So many KZbinrs talk about this new gun going into their carry rotation. I have a bunch of different pistols I love shooting for fun, but I make a big point of being overly familiar with the one pistol that will be on my hip daily. I carry because there MIGHT be a day that I can save my family. If that's the case, I want to know my gear better than I know my brother.
