My dad had a 1997 facelift Accord LXI (CD5) 2.2 non-VTEC 5-speed manual in Toreador Red (bright red) from 2011 after his brother (my uncle) handed it down to him, and until 2016 when my dad handed it down to his de facto's sister. My uncle bought the car in 2010 as a cheap runaround, and when my dad got it, it was done 265,000kms, and when he handed it down to his de facto's sister, it was done 332,000kms. It had factory A/C (in most NZ-assembled cars from that era, A/C was a paid option), it had those little rubber things mounted on top of the boot lid to carry skis (the car was a South Island car as it was originally sold new in Ashburton if I remember correctly, and lived in the southern half of the South Island for the first 7-10 years (e.g. it lived in Ashburton and Invercargill)), it never had a cambelt replaced, the car even has the original Alpine tape player, and has a power antenna that automatically rises when the car turns on and comes down when the car turns off (in later years the antenna bit is broken and it won't go up and down anymore but the motor to the antenna still works). Sadly the car is now long gone since 2017. What are your thoughts on the facelift CD5 Accord LXI 5-speed manual?

Very nice! The facelift one really doesn’t drive much better tbh, and imo it’s uglier. But sounds like yours was nice

My 96 accord has 292,000 miles on it (plus however many it put on when the odometer died). I haven’t lowered mine, but front and rear strut tower bars made me go from taking some exit ramps I usually take at like 45-50mph to like 70-75mph it’s actually ridiculous 🤣 I can only imagine how it’s going to be when I do lower it and swap in a more powerful engine

There's a '96 5MT coupe nearby that needs some work but the body is on good shape (despite being Taffeta White 😀). I'm tryna persuade my 17 y.o to get it cheap so we can work on it together. Do you think they're reliable and safe enough?

My 97 accord vtec with a 5 speed is fun as hell and all you really need to make an f22b1 sound good is an intake and a really good muffler, I’m about to add a 2” exhaust and see what it sounds like soon! Mine has 268k miles and runs like a top too 😅

Wonderful video. The 90s accord is indeed becoming a classic. New subscriber here from the Philippines. Makes me want to buy a 90s accord. I have an ek civic sedan. Hehe. I might have missed it in the video after watching but does your accord have Vtec? If not, do you plan to switch engines?
@KiwiCarLife3 жыл бұрын
Nah no vtec, and I've sold it. Was considering putting an H22 in it though...
@agustinsanchezramos57223 жыл бұрын
The non Vtec F22A1 single cam version is the best for mods. You can save te money from the intake, delete the admisión flaps, delete the balancer shafts, watch for a P12 ECU, remove the cilinder head, resurface to bring compresión to 10:1, a multi angle valve seats job, sodium core intake valves, 2.5 exaust and with some luck and a modded OBD1 Ecu, you can find 168 WHP hiden in that motor.-
@KiwiCarLife3 жыл бұрын
@@agustinsanchezramos5722 Sounds expensive! I'd just get an H22 personally. That'll make 168kW almost right out of the box
@agustinsanchezramos57223 жыл бұрын
@@KiwiCarLife You are right, but some of us are forced for "the hard way". In my country, the H22 are in danger of extinction. Catch one while you can, even if you don't have a CD5 Accord to put it on. Is a beatiful engine even for display it in some especial place of your home. Next to the bed in my case.-
