I agree a lazy innaccurate review. All 'style' no meaningful substance. Too much focus on you for no good reason and not enough on the camera unless you were waving it about. I think possibly too much self love and no real interest in your 'review'.

Sorry but had to debunk all your issues as as long term user. Scroll wheel fix: Turn off the camera, rotate the scroll wheel repeatedly for like 3-5 mins, alternating from clock-wise to anti-clockwise, turn the camera back on and test. If it doesn't work, try again for a bit longer. Always works for me. All cameras have their quirks. 🤷🏾♀ Lens Door: I think your camera has an issue because the lens doors do close all the way when turned off, but a less bulky work around for this issue is a UV protecter (can't remember the filter size) but you can get them for the GRiii or just get any UV filter for it's filter size. The camera is designed in a way where the filter can be place over the lens doors which is great for preventing dust entering the censor in general. Battery life: All compacts have terrible battery life. I bought a few cheap 3rd party batteries and they work fine. Plus you can charge the battery through the camera via usb c. In this day an age everyone carries a battery bank. Film Simulations: There's a ton of great film sim recipes online and a dedicated app for ricoh film recipes for the GRiii which you can easily adapt to suit you and set to any of the 3 custom menus so you can access them quickly. I bought mind second hand in 2021 for a great price, don't use mine so much anymore, mostly because I don't take pictures as much anymore but I'd recommend it and advise those thinking about this camera to do research outside this video.

First, not a full frame, and second, i feel like you point ou the issue here. If you dropped your camera many times, you have to expect some problems as you would with any electronic items. I see it the other way around, you dropped it few times, your lens wont even close, the wheel wont work and it still takes beautiful pictures. Not bad no? And i also bought 3 batteries because of the many reviews saying that it was not good. And i never needed more than two. You can turn it off while you walk as it turn on superfast and spare you some batteries. No film simulations…. Really?! Theres ton of recipes and even an app dedicated to it.

Hi! Fellow GRiii owner here. With regards to your scroll wheel issue, I had the same problem but was able to fix it pretty easily. Just get some isopropyl alcohol and add a couple drops into the gaps of the scroll wheel. Spin clockwise and counterclockwise a few times and let dry. Repeat as needed (took me 2 times). And it should be as good as new. I believe the issue is caused by build of sweat and dirt that's causing issues with it and the IPA just flushes that out.

What are you talking about! GRIII still usable in 2025? Did you know people still use the GR Digital 3&4 from 15 years back and they still fetch great price in the second hand market. Any camera delivering results like GRIII will have atleast 15-25 years of use into the future unless taken over by 3D hologram technology! 🤣

But I've been shooting without IBIS for decades, so why do I "need" it now? I don't.

Hey Jonathan, just upgrade the firmware of your camera and you’ll get Negative Film (simulation) which is pretty great. One way to get more battery is to stick to Snap Focus, using lots of AF drains it. Other is screen brightness. Batteries are cheap and small (specially those Wasabis).

When I bought my Ricoh, the lens cover also didn't always close. I returned it the next day and counted it as a lemon and ordered a second one. The next one game and I have not had an issue with the lens cover. I've had my Ricoh for like a year now. To over come the battery issue is that I constantly turn in on take a shot and turn it off right away. That also means the lens cover is constantly opening and closing. Not one single time ever has it failed to close.

Before I owned the GRIIIX, I had the Fujifilm XF10, and truly loved that camera but when Ricoh announced the 40mm equivalent GRIIIX, I jumped ship. I bought the GRIIIX and had it for around a year but there were too many compromises so it was traded in for a X100V. What I liked about the GRIIIX was its compact size, the 40mm equivalent lens and its stealthiness. What I didn’t like; and what made me sell it was the build quality (not that I had any issues with mine), the price, the slow autofocus finally finished, the battery life and the lack of weather sealing. I’m now on the X100VI & the X-T5 with an Xf27 but they might be going to find the purchase of a Q3. 🏴
@raf-bwКүн бұрын
Listen, proceed with caution. I went down this road and ended up hating the Leica Q3. After almost two weeks of testing the hell out of it, I sent it back. Let me break it down. I got the Q3 with the 28mm lens and even tested a buddy’s 43mm for about nine days. Yeah, it’s a beautifully built camera...no denying that. But honestly? It’s got some real issues. First off, no joystick. Seriously? For this price? The autofocus feels like using a Ricoh GR IIIx ...not exactly cutting-edge. And the film simulations? Barely anything there, especially if you’re coming from Fujifilm. Everyone goes on about how simple Leica menus are, but I found them frustrating, especially trying to save or recall user settings. Oh, and yes, this was with the latest firmware. Now, let’s talk about the lenses. They’re good but nothing earth-shattering. I compared the Q3’s 43mm to a Nikon Z 40mm f/2 and a Sony 40mm f/2.5 G. Honestly, you’d need a magnifying glass to see a real difference. And the 28mm? People aren’t kidding...it doesn’t feel like a true 28mm. It’s more like 24mm or 25mm. Bottom line? This camera just doesn’t deliver for the money. Unless you want to convince yourself it’s worth it, you’re probably gonna miss Fuji. Fujifilm gives you way more bang for your buck: better flexibility, colors, and a much more enjoyable shooting experience. Leica? It’s outdated tech, awkward ergonomics, and a decent lens...not worth the hype or the price. Before you buy, do yourself a favor and check out shots on Flickr or other places. You’ll see a ton of poor to average results from Leica users, while Fuji users consistently pull off amazing work...without spending a small fortune.

I got into photography about 2 years ago. Loved my Fuji but just got the Ricoh gr 3 because no matter what for what I’m looking for you will not find a better sensor is a true POCKET CAMERA and if its fun to shoot with your photos will be better In my opinion. How long have you had your Ricoh? I've had mine since released. The batteries are still long lasting and have not had any issues at all with my Ricoh. I would recommend the camera 100000% if your battery doesn't last just get a new one. That has nothing to do with how great the camera is. And the whole film simulation thing...lol. That's why they make all kinds of luts/simulations for lightroom. That's more of a personal preference, not a fault of the camera settings. lol

The Fujifilm XF10 was a very underrated camera. I had one and enjoyed it but I did sell it to buy the GRIIIx. That’s now gone and replaced by the X100V 🏴
@hudster19695 күн бұрын
I had an XF10 and the GR3 blows it out of the park. Yeah there is a lot of hype surrounding the GR and it's a marmite camera, however when it's set up right it works like a charm. There are 3rd party batteries out there that are half the price of the official ones, which I found lasted a full day (I had 3). Agreed the emulations aren't great compared to Fujifilm but who never edits RAWs? I rarely use shots SOOC. The only reason prices are still so high is that people couldn't get the X100V and opted for this.

Not the GRIII, but I had/have the original GR and loved it to death, literally. Just a great little camera, but…, although light and solid build, the internals/buttons are just not durable and like the wheel problem feels cheap. My shutter release became iffy and not smooth across the surface. And then there is the dust migration problem which was suppose to be improved but hear is still a complaint. I gave up using it a few years ago because of dust, but recently took it apart and cleaned the sensor ( it’s taken a few tries and still not fully clean). There is still an ‘age’ electronics glitch when I turn the camera on it is a black screen and needs an exposure to get it to start to work. One feature that I loved is the ultra wide add-on lens. Something you can’t get with any other compact I’m aware of. I’d really consider a GRIII except for the long term durability, high cost, and dust problem.

Personally I’ve never had an issue with the batteries. It comes with 2 and I bought two of the knockoff versions for $25. In all my days of shooting for 6-8 hours. I have never went through more than 3. You just have to turn the camera off when you’re not shooting.

Lowlight AF and weather sealing/resistance are other factors that make me hesitant to recommend it to others. While San Francisco doesn’t experience heavy rainfall, the past few months have been unusually rainy, and I’ve found myself leaving it at home. I understand that it’s not overly sensitive to water, and an umbrella could be used in such situations. However, considering the four-month wait for my back order and the price, I’m not particularly keen on treating it rough. I’ve just been falling back on my XT5/27mm combo instead.

Good review but about 1 year to late lol. I got one last year for Xmas and so far so good. I did buy a lens hood and also a UV filter mount to place a 49mm clear filter to protect the lens and reduce the chances of sucking dust into the camera when turning it off. My 2 issues I suffer from is that my FAT FINGERS get in the way lol. Last but not least, living in colorful Colorado the sun is shining over 300 days a year and the glare on the back screen is impossible for me to see. Both of those flaws fall under human defects of my own doing . Happy New Year!!!!
