Omniscope is just great. simply the false color options allow so many possibilities, like monitoring peak nit values for HDR grading, showing oversaturation, showing black and white clipping. they're fantastic. the new twin peaks scope might need some time to get used to, but it sounds like an interesting concept.

Looking at purchasing the omniscopes - As a beginner, i'm curious how you'd setup omniscopes whilst using a CST Davinci Wide Gamut/ Intermediate Workflow and Camera Groups. Where would i place the omniscopes node - last node on the timeline group/page? Do i need to change any of the input settings within omniscopes? What settings do i change within Resolve and Omniscopes when dealing with 8 bit, 10 bit or 12 bit footage. Thank You in advance!!

Hi. therte are really good and easy to understand guides on the time in pixels web site about how to use in Resolve different methods. Hope that helps.
@JimRobinson-colors2 ай бұрын
That's a great advert for Omniscopes. As far as the Resolve scopes and what you showed for the vectorscopes having 4 or more scopes up. The order in which each is first in the table will show as the default for when the scopes are locked onto the dock. So I have mine exactly as you show with All, Low, Mid and highlight, then if I need a quick look at the vectorscope when it's locked into the dock it will show me "All". If it were in a different order like Low, Mid, high and All - the default would be Low. And another tip is that the Option/Alt and scroll wheel will zoom in and out on the trace - so if say on a vectorscope I want to see the trace better on low saturation images - I can quickly put my mouse over the vectorscope and zoom in on the trace and then zoom back out, really quickly. But everytime I see omniscope demos like this, I kind of want them badly. Thanks for another great video - packed with information in there.

Hi Darren! I have a question about the CST work flow. I notice that when going from any color space to DWG, via CST anytime i would push the image a little I would start getting black spotty artifacts. I was blaming the HDR panel for a while but I did a little research and it had turned out I needed to set "Tone mapping method" to "None" as the "davinci" setting would have the artifacts. Do you have any insight on why that is? I couldn't find anything online.

Just a heads up I don't believe you can see versions side by side on the scopes if you're monitoring from one computer. Pretty sure you can only get that if it's coming out of the DeckLink card or UltraStudio. Maybe I'm wrong, first day using it, thanks for the code! :)
@DarrenMostyn2 ай бұрын
You would need to set your omniscope at ‘timeline’ level in color page( not edit page) if you are doing all on one computer to see ‘Versions’ as its only active in colour page. Hope that makes sense.
@travissawyer7622 ай бұрын
@@DarrenMostyn That makes sense, but it still doesn't seem to work. Maybe I have a setting wrong in Omninodes. I go CST > DWG > Clip level grade> Timeline level> Look development > CST > Rec709 > Omninodes. Doing the 'versions' only shows the highlighted one. It also isn't affected by playing a still. All of that passes into my flanders fine though. 🤷♂
@DarrenMostyn2 ай бұрын
It definitely 100% works in the edit page and the timeline mode, without decklink etc. Im doing it now and it changes when I go to versions. Not sure what you are doing wrong. Check you are pressing versions, not highlight and that you see more than one image in the Colour page window.
@travissawyer7622 ай бұрын
@@DarrenMostyn Appreciate the info. It's good to know it's possible! I was a little worried. I'll keep tinkering with it, probably reach out to support. I do see two images on the color page when I use 'versions', it seems like the signal I'm getting in Omniscope isn't a direct feed from the color page, it's strange. I use 'play still' a lot when comparing/matching shots so hopefully I can get it ironed out. Thanks again 👍🏻

@Darren Cheers, just wondering who the primary demographic of this channel is? Is it other working colorists or folks learning or casually interested in coloring? Some of the tools you're promoting are quite expensive and likely out of reach for enthusiasts or beginning colorists, perhaps even intermediate. It's hard to imagine someone with passive interest dropping big dollar on some of these tools. Don't get me wrong, I can personally see the utility of your preferred tools and workflow, and if these types of videos are to keep the lights on, all fair game. I'm not upset by that. I would just love to know who your channel is targeting? If it's newcomers and enthusiasts, I would recommend you channel your content towards in-app based workflows. I'm more advanced myself and can see the potential and power in omniscopes but even I wouldn't invest that kind of money into tools that marginally improve productivity. I've collected more value from your content that shares your workflow with in-app tools, such as your node tree structure. Chef's kiss.
@DarrenMostyn2 ай бұрын
Hi Matthew, Thanks for your concerns. I dont have a target audience or primary demographic aim? Anyone is welcome to watch my content, beginner to professional to newcomer. I'm a professional broadcast colourist sharing knowledge for free, its not my main business and therefore its not that calculated as to who the target is. I'm very transparent about that. I just share information about my REAL workflow, not a KZbinrs perspective on how a real workflow 'might be' - Im sharing REAL WORLD broadcast grading knowledge. Im busy 90% running my post facility and colour grading real jobs for BBC, Netflix, Amazon, ITV etc. The info I share is based on tools that I use. I think you are used to be sold stuff by youtubers to make money - I make my living (lights on as you say) as a Pro Colourist! If non-pros think these plugins are expensive thats fine, and usually I give examples to do the same look without. Im not trying to sell! I'm simply being honest and showing what I use, and if thats expensive or cheap I dont really think about it! I dont take product sponsors money for anything other than what I use - I reject most offers to keep my channel genuine. I want everyone to enjoy my channel that's why i do playlists for beginners. I also have no idea why you are so concerned about a primary demographic. Im just sharing knowledge from basic to advanced level - the target is those who need that information can find it . I also negotiate well with vendors to allow my viewers to get a discount should you want one of the plugins I use - they dont HAVE to buy it. Everyone has a choice to watch the video, or not to buy the products Im using for Broadcast grades. I dont know what you are saying or asking really ? All the best, Darren.
