Thank you for sharing!! You articulated what I’ve been feeling perfectly. I keep telling people I’m feeling hopeful about the bracket system

You’re a likeminded player to me. Tips hat.
@technoman7751Ай бұрын
I’m not necessarily a competitive commander player but I like what you said about being excited about where the meta can go now that those higher power cards are banned. It just changes deck building to make it less one dimensional which I think is a good thing, gives other cards time to shine.

This is perfect! I couldn't word my feelings correctly for the changes but this exactly how I feel.

Just found your channel. 100% agree with your take and your attitudes and feelings about the game. Looking forward to watching more the Dankest Dungeon!

I'm exactly the same kind of deck builder/player! I think it comes from something I don't see discussed at all online - being a good sport/losing gracefully. I am competitive and trying to win, but if I lose fairly I still have a good time. It feels like there's no place in the format for people like me. This seems like a step in the right direction, so I'm cautiously optimistic as well. And yeah, fuck those ppl who sent death threats to the RC. I also thought they were playing it too safe (until they didn't) but you're a real scumbag piece of shit if you threaten someone online over a game

Very well said. No grudge, salt or fuel to the fire. Just honest and reasonable content. Maybe the rest of the community and content creators should have waited a little longer with their response as well.

Love your channel. I agree with your prognosis that the future looks good. I also like your play style. I am a magic player that has been playing for 30+ years. 1. I don't agree with your opinion on the reserve list. This is an interesting topic because i think the reserve list saved the game. fallen empires and chronicles almost broke it. I'm not an investor. so the value only matters a little but a slowly increasing value makes it so people can keep trading for more. I think they should expand the reserve list. This will give people more wealth and trade power well at the same time wizards power creeps everything anyhow. 2. On the topic of bans. my issue is less about what they ban and more about timing and consistency. I've been playing commander since the early days. when they unbanned protean hulk only to ban flash later felt bad. Lutri ban almost went un noticed, because they addressed it before and everyone understood. banning mana crypt because it is fast (and has been in the game since the beginning of commander) only to leave sol ring. That is a feel bad both for timing and constancy. 3. the tier system could be perfect in my opinion. i think 5 tiers would be better and that fifth tier being all cards are ok. these are effectively ban tiers. tournament A is being run at tier 3, Tournament b and at tier 5 etc. it makes it a quicker conversation, however combo with vs combat are huge differences so it is not the end all but its a good place to start. thank you for all your content
@TheDankestDungeonАй бұрын
Thanks! I have zero insight into the history of the reserved list, but as far as reserved list cards being legal to play in Commander, it seems like a recipe for disaster to me. I'm looking forward to the tournament potential for the different bracket tiers as well!
@maxbodifee3263Ай бұрын
A 1000€ card is not healthy for the game I'd say. All RL should be bracket 4
@nsaneg00n74Ай бұрын
I believe it isn’t a Ban list it’s more of a system to help players with the rule zero conversion. Personally I think it’s ridiculous they have to go this far because players can’t be adults and have a conversation.
@TheDankestDungeonАй бұрын
Sure, that's the language Wizards is using... but f everyone in a pod agrees to only play cards from a certain bracket, it's a banned list, and if an LGS holds a Commander tournament for a specific bracket, it's a banned list.
@mythicpacks761Ай бұрын
I really like your perspective on the 4 brackets for decks. Your comments made me realize that this is exactly what I've been struggling with too. I like to build thematic, competitive decks and try my best to play the deck well with a goal of winning. When playing in my local meta at the LGS, it works fine, but going to a convention and being paired with a group of random strangers I often get comments that my deck is too competitive. You have given me optimism for the future with the bracket system. Thanks for this video, and all your great content.

This is probably why i enjoy this channel so much. Playing to win while also expressing creativity through themes or pet cards is the main reason i enjoy commander so much. I hope Gavin and his team come up with a good system and I wish the RC well.
@RagdorUltronАй бұрын
I agree with all of your thoughts on this video. I am not a super competitive person but when I play games I try to figure out a strategy and I try and win. I enjoy finding cool little combos and synergies. Sometimes they involve powerful cards and sometimes they don't. I have a regular play group and we have broken our decks down into 4 different weeks and we rotate through them each month. Our groups are precons, fun week (upgraded precons/untested/not optimized), high power week (anything goes as long as it's fast), and salt week (long turns, stax, infect, etc..). So when wizards talked about the four brackets I was excited to have a structure around different groups of decks. It will also provide some deck building restrictions. Overall a great video and really put into words what I have been thinking these last few weeks.
@TheDankestDungeonАй бұрын
That’s cool your playgroup was already doing brackets before it was cool! Hopefully the official ones will let us all play more easily with a wider group of players :)

@joe1edgeleyАй бұрын

@chrisvanderheiden12Ай бұрын
The bracket system was already in the works. The RC mentioned they were working with wizards to develop a tool to help with rule 0 discussion in the ban announcement. It was just missed in all the chaos that ensued.
@Markos2007Ай бұрын
Really had similar feelings about this change. And, knowing that wizards explicitly told them not to do it, made it feel even better for the game. So it's really not a surprise that all the wizards and finance bros were so upset about this, but it was a good change. It needs to happen again, but it won't because now the company is in charge of it, and so are the investors.

I understood the Mana Crypt ban, but it was sad to see it go after being a part of the format since it started. Dockside and Jeweled Lotus can get absolutely bent over a barrel.
@voidprism_studios666Ай бұрын
at 7:30 you just described high power lol
@TheDankestDungeonАй бұрын
Yes, I like to play high power, but there’s currently no official codification of what that means, so therefore no events for it either :(
@Mulletdog1Ай бұрын
Oh I thought that the brackets meant that you took the average of each card like a theoretical deck power scale be 3.5?
@TheDankestDungeonАй бұрын
Nope, it's all or nothing. If you include on bracket 4 card in your deck and the rest is bracket 2, it would be considered a tier 4 deck. :)
@Mulletdog1Ай бұрын
@@TheDankestDungeon huh 🤔 wasn’t expecting that. My local LGS is pretty friendly overall about playing just about anything so we haven’t felt the ban really much at all
@TheDankestDungeonАй бұрын
@@Mulletdog1 If you're playing casually you can still play whatever you'd like if your pod is cool with it, but these guidelines should help people find groups to join and open up the possibilities of new competitive Commander events.

While I agree with most of it, I will say when Bank of America is calling you out for over the top oppressive greed(and you STILL don't back up?), maybe WotC does already have a very bad look when you try to estimate the future of Commander on their control. I will point out MtGO's ban system is based off ACTUAL statistics. So there's some gleam of hope at least. Brackets is just "my deck is a 7" with less tiers. There's also going to be a pretty hard break between cards that are crappy/ok normally but completely busted on certain commanders. Pubstompers are always gonna look to abuse whatever system is in place, and more closed groups should get their play group to a spot of enjoyment regardless as to brackets or bans. Ultimately, will have to wait for WotC to make a move before it's a good or bad thing.
@TheDankestDungeonАй бұрын
Didn't Wizards slow down on the release schedule for product? I felt like this year wasn't as daunting as last year for releases. They will push the limit for profit, but are highly likely to reel it back in if there are real consequences. And yeah, you can't get rid of people 'pubstomping' entirely, but I think limiting their card pool is one way to make it much harder for them.
@ProdigalMadnessАй бұрын
@@TheDankestDungeon It was a one(two?) set delay? Seemed like Aftermath went so poorly they rolled a second one into Thunder Junction as the Vault stuff(was chatter on this for a bit) to cut losses. When even your content creators talk about product fatigue and you make no significant changes, I feel like that says a lot about you as a company and where your heart is(or lack of.) I'm quite certain I could make a Zada(downgraded to uncommon) full of t1 cards and clear tables. I'd be exceptionally happy to be proven wrong, but I don't believe they'll be effective with their brackets from discussion so far. (As long as jlo, crypt, and dockside stay banned forever for the treatment given to RC!)
@MTGDuelist8870Ай бұрын
it absolutely disgusts me that the bans made certain people so angry they decided that the best course of action was too literally threaten the RC in the most horrid ways imaginable. even as a casual player who plays with Budget Jank decks that at least try to win was extremely happy to see 3 of these cards banned (though i question why mana crypt was banned). which lets be real, it was 100% the Finance bros who were the most angry and did this. Screw anyone who sent the RC threats and especially the finance bros, this is a PRIME example as to why Finances should have ZERO say as to anything that gets put on the Banlist. that said, i also don't trust wizards either because the RC fiasco could've never have happened if WOTC never printed cards like jeweled lotus and dockside in the first place. hell WOTC was even told a year in advance by the CAG "don't print jeweled lotus". while i don't think WOTC will milk the format dry and kill it (because that would be stupid), i'm not sure if i trust them not to make the format extremely unfun and hella expensive via printing tons of OP staples that cost tons of money like jeweled lotus just to push packs. HOWEVER i am optimistic about the bracket system, i just HOPE beyond hope that WOTC gives this new system the time it needs to cook and flourish properly and not rush it out the door.
@TapTwoCounterspellАй бұрын
To be excited about the massive corporate entity taking complete control of their cash cow is just odd logic to me. You understand they will milk this cow dry right? Forced rotation of product via power creep is at the top of their to-do list. Most of us already agree that then producing cards intended for Commander has been a huge negative and changed the format tremendously...this is just the tip of the iceberg
@TheDankestDungeonАй бұрын
They specifically will try not to milk it dry. They will try to milk it as much as they can without crossing that line. They were doing that anyways whether they were controlling the banned list or not, I'm just happy we'll have more structure to the format.
