The state where I live just did away with emissions across the board! With the price of newer trucks these days, I've come to the conclusion that my 16 2500 may be my last diesel! So, I'm leaning towards deleting it. We'll see.

I just added a Banks Monster Ram that relocates the grid heater. I'd estimate the intake system was 35% clogged with carbon deposits from running exhaust gas back into the engine. The problem with the EPA is that they don't think about the entire life cycle of a truck - they neglect to take into account extra emissions from increased fuel use from the soot cooker and definitely don't think about the decrease in life span of a truck that has an EGR system. I can guarantee you that they haven't done an complete analysis that takes all this into account. And don't get me started on their PM2.5 (small particulate) BS. They base all their decisions on terrible science, they would be the first agency to get the boot if I were in charge.

Drove my ‘14 til around 75,000 then started getting the dpf failure. Went into limp mode so I drove to a shop that I had already checked out cause before I even bought the truck I knew they were notorious for failing around that mileage. I’m at 180k miles now and have had no issues whatsoever. I also run a light tune. No peeling out or anything crazy. I pull a 16k 14ft dump trailer almost every drive also.

I travel almost full time with my 6.7 F350 and camper all around the Country. I agree in not deleting. I have enough in life to worry about and finding a shop wherever I’m at that will work on my truck if it’s deleted is not something I want to deal with. Same if I have a catastrophic failure and need to trade it while the road for another truck, I don’t want to worry. So far 119,000 miles and zero emission issues….just the leaking upper oil pan from a bad RTV re-seal. Keep the DEF clean going in, let the truck regen correctly, and run the truck. Thanks for the video as always!

I agree with you. I feel it is too risky to delete because the truck could end up unsellable. I am not planning on getting rid of my truck but you never know and deleted makes it almost impossible in many places unless you do some back door deal which then also hurts the value. I have a ‘14 as well with 152k miles, no egr issues. I did install a Banks Monster Ram and replaced the factory grid heater with their version. The truck runs great and I actually noticed a 1-1.5 mpg boost. Although it is expensive I highly recommend the upgrade for the mileage and the fact that it gets rid of the potential grid heater failure point- although mine was fine after 148k miles. Overall the truck has been great except for the trans. Replaced that with a Randy’sStage 1 trans at 143k. Expensive but way cheaper than a new truck🤪

The big difference when comparing gas to diesel emissions is reliability! When something goes wrong with your gas emissions you get a check engine light, with my cummins I got a count down on a red-eye road trip with a dead line. From a financial stand point I needed to make sure that didn’t happen again. I’m not against emissions, but I am against the EPA countdown programmed into the newer diesels.

I agree with you. I've got a 2015 version just like yours. I deleted all of my past diesel trucks, but I wont be deleting this one. At least not unless its absolutely necessary to keep it reliable. The main reason is because I do a lot of heavy towing and I prefer to keep it quiet in the cab. I've got an old hot rod and a Harley for when I want to make some real noise. sir one thing you mentioned was the price. Once you are outside of warranty period and have to replace an entire DPF, and eat the cost, you will fully understand what people are talking about when they delete late model trucks. The newer emissions trucks are only getting worse. 10k for a DPF replacement. 8k for the part and 2k labor. Problems are more frequent, and dealer visits are as well. Glad your rig has been sound, but not all of us are that lucky. Some do this for reliability and others for performance.

I always took it for granted that when my 17 got out of warranty I would delete it. Now it is out, and I have decided not to, for all the reasons as Marion's. Number 1 is what the heck do you when it comes time to sell or trade. Even if you put all the equipment back on the ecm will never be a virgin. Many have their truck deleted at shops that keep the removed equipment and sell it. The safest way is to delete the truck yourself and keep all the hardware that is removed. This is incredibly easy to do. All that needs to be removed is the SCR and the DPF. I use EZLYNK for programming. You can leave everything on the engine intact but disabled. I can put my truck back to stock and reflash to stock in about 3 hours. EGR is horrible for a diesel engine as well as the heat generated to regen the DPF.. This was my main reasons to delete. If you're out of warranty, have you had to purchase any of the emissions equipment on these trucks?

I hear the statement that dealerships won’t take deleted ‘trucks’ on trade. If you’re thinking about trading in your truck while considering deleting it, you should reassess more than just your vehicle. Dealerships take anything in, especially hd diesel pickups. I’ve personally never had a used car salesman say they won’t buy my deleted diesel pickup. There’s zero reason you shouldn’t delete if you’re planning on driving your vehicle for the next several years and every logical reason to delete now.
@TheWoodButcher86
@TheWoodButcher86 6 ай бұрын
They can't resale them. The ONLY reason a dealer takes in a truck that's deleted is because the used car salesman doesn't know what a deleted truck looks oor sounds like majority of the time. Or they don't know the specific years and regulations. Once that truck makes it to the back in the shop, the mechanic says it's deleted, then they HAVE to auction it because they CANNOT legally sell it on their lot.

We have a bunch of equipment and trucks with emission equipment on them that run every day. We hardly ever have issues with emission equipment on any of them. @@nathanbaier9929 the skid loaders we are starting to trade in every 3 years, the bigger equipment we will run to at least 10,000 hrs before we trade. Biggest issue we have is the DPF temp sensors on the Takeuchi skid loaders with Kubota engines will shut the machine down because they think it’s too hot and it takes 20 minutes to cool before you can restart the machine. They have put new sensors in and they act up still the same. Sometimes they go weeks without issue and sometimes they act up twice a week. Replaced one sending unit in a DEF tank on a Cat 953K loader. Other then that they all are good.

The new diesel engines of today make fantastic power stock. There's also CARB friendly aftermarket parts from Banks that'll fix weak points like grid heaters. Sure, the DPF, EGR, and DEF systems add extra complexity and when they're "deleted" you take away some failure points, but I don't miss the cloud older trucks would put out when started on a cold day. It doesn't make sense to delete the truck's emission system just for the sake of re-sale as you mentioned.

In my area deleted trucks are bought and sold everyday. They are much more sought after because I live in a state that is very large and remote and reliably is everything. Also agriculture is the biggest market in this great state and we have zero emissions testing for that reason. I have the same truck as you it’s a 2014 2500 Laramie and I deleted mine at 65k because the def pump failed. I wish I would have deleted it the day I bought it because I get way better mileage and performance and I don’t have all that soot being routed back to my engine plugging everything up. Also no more stinky def needing to be added. It runs like a Cummins is supposed to.F@ck the EPA they are a bunch of criminals. You won’t see a single government vehicle with emissions equipment on a diesel. That tells you something. Thanks for your video sir. Adios.

On the '07-'12, I agree. On the '13 to '18 it's there mainly as a warmup strategy. The EGR usage is mostly non-existent outside of warmup. It's why the 2013-2018 do not need intake cleanings anymore. Also the same reason the 2013-2018 gets fuel economy compared to a 12 valve, even with it being a heavier truck.

The problem is the fuel... when the fuel gets burned it leaves soot... the soot gets built up in the motor. Look at the 6.7 cummins. Gale banks talks about the grit heater nut that gets corrosion on it then it falls off into the motor. The egr needs to be in place for the EPA but who is going to pay 30k for a new cummins. I will stay with my 2005 dodge ram cummins. More noise and lower cost or ownership no emissions
@davidflower295
@davidflower295 7 ай бұрын
While it is related to the fuel, it's most related to combustion temperature. EGR usage is only needed on engines with poor NOx aftertreatment. The 2013 and newer got part taken care of, Cummins can meet the emissions without it and is why some Cummins engines don't have it anymore. But they keep it on the trucks likely just for a warmup strategy. Oddly enough, the fuel is why the newer diesels are having less emission and engine related issues than the newer gas engines trying to meet the emissions. The diesels can run at a much higher combustion temperature with the 2023 and 2024 Cummins measuring particulate matter in micrograms(this being confirmed by the California Air and Research Board). The gas engines with the common rail system can't hit a decent fraction of the pressures of the diesel and lack the atomization.

I knew I would have issues with the after-treatment system with my driving style and was prepared for a long-term relationship with my truck understanding it could not be traded back to a dealer after making these changes. I will say. There was soot upon soot after deleting my 2019 at the 36k miles. Used an S&S kit for a 2010-12 I scored right when the hammer started to come down. Got a throttle valve delete as well. Not as much of a MPG gain as I was expecting. The 5th gen is pretty efficient and I usually hang out around 19-20 mpg average in the summer and 17-18 mpg in the winter. Now I need to get around to doing a heater grid delete now that it's consistently around 35F where I live. Take your time with the nuts for the giant EGR valve. I would coat those in PB/WD40/you preferred choice and let them sit. The throttle response alone has been worth it. Dear lord it was lackluster. The absolute worst i've ever driven was a 2017 with the 3.42's. The best was an 5.9 HO with injectors... and 590k miles on it when I drove it. But that speaks for itself.

Most trucks here at 80 k require complete dpf change. 4g cdn. I deleted mine at 31k. No improvement on fuel, no more turbo lag due to the tune. Lost the turbo actuator right after deleted, 3g cdn, coincidence?

But Marion the entire reason why deletes happen is that the entire emissions system is the top issue called out by 90% of owners out there. Same thing related to the grid heater which you deleted ;) BTW very much appreciate your videos, very helpful.

My buddy owns a reputable diesel shop. EPA showed up the other day and actually inspected the customers’ trucks that were in his bays. Some were deleted. The EPA rep asked my shop owner friend to print the history of invoices on those deleted trucks to prove he wasn’t the one who “installed defeat devices “ on them. He complied and proved innocence. The EPA guy grabbed tag numbers and told my friend he’d reach out directly to the owners. My buddy laughed and told him “good luck with that, you might want to hit the airlines and cargo ship companies instead”.

Waiting to see what the "fix" actually is. My guess is the fix is in on diesel owners. After and if I do the recall (I'm not in any of the commie states) I might consider doing a delete. Especially if the fix is detrimental to the longevity of the engine.

Ya at your stage of the game why would you even mess with it. Where I live it’s not a problem getting anything that’s been deleted worked on. the dealerships around here don’t have a problem taking one in on trade they sell fast. i’ve yet to hear of any person getting hammered by the EPA for having deleted truck. Yes, the businesses are getting hammered for doing it. You can’t point to California for anything that they’re doing cause they’re so screwed up it isn’t even funny. If lived in one of these oppressed states I wouldn’t even own one. I would just lease me a little piece of shit car and get me a new one every three years.

@@MarionBlair For sure. The unfortunate side of the crackdowns is the reputable tuners aren’t going to touch deletes because they’ve already gotten into trouble. So we have either stolen/hacked tunes out there, or guys that really don’t know fully how to tune, just to get emissions off a truck. And that’s unfortunate. Some of the tuners saw early crackdowns and nixed so called smoke tunes or lope tunes and focused on good clean tunes. But that option has largely been taken away. Any ‘07.5-‘12 truck I would strongly consider deleting, a ‘13 and later I would feel better about leaving stock.

These newer diesels are only capable af 100-150k miles on regular oil changes on or especially off stock emissions. Facts!
