I'm glad that I stuck with this show till the end because the second half of this show was much better than the first half. Most of the time I was finding myself asking myself why they didn't push episodes like this in the first half, then remembered that they needed to push as many evolutions as possible otherwise they might have to depend on substance over spectacle. I'm hopeful that they do something more experimental with 02, but at this point I'm not holding my breath.

as someone who has been following this franchise for ages and really liked adventure but never asked for more (to be honest, I've always felt more nostalgic towards the 02 cast), I couldn't have been happier when this season ended, most of the time it was unsuferable, and the more enjoyable moments from of it were from the episodes that felt like straight up filler in the second half, my least favorite episodes after wargreymon's debut were the tree episodes mini arcs related to faga, milleniummon and negamon. Btw I've been watching Digimon ghost ghost game, and all I can say is that I've been enjoying any of the first three episodes more than my favorite episode from adventure 2020, the volcamon vs etemon episode, which was really good, but I really needed something fresh, good character moments and decent writing.

My least favorite episode is still Episode 18 Countdown to Tokyo's Annihilation as previously mentioned in the first half video covering episodes 1-30. That being said, it's really painful to have the second half of this show have so many decent small character arcs splintered out across a very weak over arching plot about how they are "traveling to FAGA". You know you have a bad story when you can take any/all of your episodes and rearrange them in any manner, and still have the same level of cohesion narrative-wise because of how painfully episodic all of the content is. This show was absolutely made with that in mind, and it's the same reason why some American shows with Narrative driven content that is required to be watched in a specific order suffers.

As a original digimon fan thats watched every season and loves the original lore and cyber sleuth, and as a living dragon ball encyclopedia that debunks claims of dragon ball super having retcons and even predicted the foreshadowing of goten and trunks aging in super hero and gohan getting a new form(saiyaman stuff was never filler, was foreshadowing, just like the copy vegeta arc was foreshadowing because bulma was making the fuel), I hate digimon adventure 2020. I hate how it poops on past lore and changes everything.

they should make Blitzgreymon & Cresgarurumon as the main Mega for this reboot season and Wargreymon/ Metalgarurumon as a side MEga just for a tribute. Also they should make the rest of Holy Digimon join the battle either with Millineummon or Abbaddomon.

If I had to choose to rewatch this or Tri, I would choose Tri just because it was less than half the run length of the remake with 26 episode I think.

literally the main problem a lot of seasons had was the fact that it focused too much on the 2 main characters, specially frontier, we had 0 attention to the other 4 members after kaiser and magna showed up, there was an episode in the beggining of that ark where the kids felt useless, then they faught with the main 2, felt usefull, and then became useless the rest of the season, until the last episode with so many critiques that season had based solely on the lack of attention other kids had, its amazing how they still go do exactly what people complained about worse part, even the main 2 kids, taichi and yamato, had bad and almost non existant development

Honestly, this season was just so boring to me. One of the things I've always liked about Digimon was its character writing, but it took too long to really get any. The cast was just so bland. Like, I get we have a good deal of that with older iterations of Adventure, but that's no excuse. Plus, the constant fights, getting separated, running here and there, etc., just tired me out. (At least Ghost Game, slow plot aside, has been pretty great with its core cast and several Mons of the week. And while it is slow-going and episodic even 25eps in, the horror themes and entertaining characters keeps me reeled in.)

One way I could describe this show is like a cake that you like since childhood and that cake is decorated well with some crude decoration on some part. When you taste the cake it taste like bland, horrible and just unpleasant. The only good thing about the cake is the fruit that are on the cake. My problem with the season is there doesn't seem to be a goal in this season and that is just everyone is separated and just go here where the digivices tells you to go literally. All the characters are just bland and forgettable even Mimi. Mimi just feels the same at the end and there's no character development in her where I want to follow her journey. Joe is the only one that seems to have some character development. The millenniummon arc seems like filler, like if I just remove millenniummon and FAGA and just have the kids get ultimate and Kari's plot you wouldn't miss a thing. Millenniummon doesn't even contribute anything for the characters or the story. LIke in the og Devimon contribute Patamon's evolution to angemon, Etemon contribute the evolution of MetalGreymon and Myotismon contribute the evolution of Angewomon. Millenniummon may have contribute the evolution of the Holy Dragon but they never show up again so it really doesn't mean anything to the plot when they don't show up again. This season is the worst for me. Worst than Tri because at least Tri was enjoyable in some moments and I just hate that this season doesn't give the other characters equality especially the evolution. Even Tri gives the evolution animation an equal animation.

I think it was on the first half video where I said, "this show feels like a NG+ run of Digimon Adventure" where all the characters feel like they have already gone through their character arcs and have additional growth to undergo during their journey. From the start to finish all of the characters were extremely one note. The DragonBall Super staff have learned absolutely nothing from their boring ass season and will continue to push spectacle over content and your cake metaphor is spot on, because the only thing on the plate is icing.

I'm not an adventure fan and the reboot just made my feeling towards the adventure series as a whole way worst. The series will never evolve if they keep bringing up adventure. @@sleekemu356 I'm alright with remakes or soft-reboots, but in the event that they are handled like this season was I'd prefer the writers just make a new series entirely. This show was like they had the blueprint of all the characters and were so afraid to write new stories for them that they just decided not to, and instead just write each character like a cardboard cutout of a list of traits that they found on the digimon wiki. Now that they are teasing for a 02 follow up, I look at the ending of this series and can't even be cautiously optimistic like I was with the first handful of episodes of this season. There were some points where I thought, "maybe they could remake Frontier." but regardless of the content, if it's going to be the same DBSuper writers, then we are going to get more spectacle over narrative and end up with the same pile of garbage we got here. Digimon as a series has always had strong character development that forces the protagonists to inflect on their shortcomings over the series resulting in them being different people by the end of their journey. There is not a single character in this story that changed from the start to the end excluding their introduction episodes where each one had 20 minutes to decide to follow Tai/Matt in a digivolution episode. Unless we just get a completely different writing staff and Toei takes their boot off their neck forcing them to write evolution episodes at certain episode markers, then I'd rather just not have them make anything. I haven't watched Ghost Game yet, but I've heard it's neat. Hopefully that's worth my time otherwise it's pretty bleak to be a fan of the series.

Honestly... I would even say that you're being a bit too generous. The Tai episode where he has to take care of Botamon... To me it was nice on paper, but at the end of the day it lacks substance and purpose. Tai doesn't really change as a person. His behavior is exactly the same as it is throughout the rest of the show. Joe is a mixed bag for me, because he got the most character development out of all of them, but his whole shtick about being the leader was very annoying and he felt more driven by his own ego rather than a sense of obligation to take care of the others due to him being the oldest. Mimi is the only consistently good character, but her development is still basically non-existent. No joke, I would rather watch Tri than this

I don't think Im being a bit too generous, I know I am being a bit very generous here. Tai had 2 episodes on the second half that were passable acceptable episodes that did something with him as a character rather than just having him in the background of every single shot. I might have been unclear since I put Tai at the end over Joe, and in hindsight I should have said this in the video, but Tai was legitimately awful in this show offering little to nothing beyond existing to deliver more Agumon to the audience. Joe was great imo because he's the only character present who managed to challenge any of the other points of view from other characters (same goes for Mimi). I *THINK* that I would watch this over Tri just for the few episodes here that were marginally above average, but you'd be hard pressed to find me watching more than 5 or so episodes from the entire lot of 60-something episodes. In hindsight I should have rerecorded the line saying, "I lied I said I'd save the best for last but there is another" but I wanted it to be a bit more quick and punchy.

I honestly can't see how anyone would have given this otherwise forgettable mess the time of day if we didn't have the original series around to subconciously supply 99% of the substance and characterisation in order to remotely care. It blatently just coasts by purely on nostalgia and empty fanservice. The amount of times they milk the 'never give up' trope in order to get freebie power-ups is frankly absurd. These kids just had everything handed to them on a platter. Nothing compels me to ever want to sit through it ever again...

I kinda just ignored this season and ive watched every season of digimon and found something to like about each But i think cyber sleuth might have ruined me for digimon with it being so good That being said my biggest issue with this reboot has to do with stakes, to me digimon was never about world ending stakes regardless of them being the children of destiny and its the same issue i have with tri, other than Joe distancing himself from his friends as the one closest to growing into an adult a lot of tri lacked the character moments adventure had, i loved how simple everyones goal of going home was until the bonds they made with digimon made them feel like they personally had to save the world, mimi started out as my least favourite of the group and by the time 02 rolled around it was great watching her call out the new kids on being selfish and not recogonizing the danger being a digidestined it and the responcibility of helping others if you can, matt and tai's responcibilities as older brothers, izzy's parents, sora and her mom and how lack of comunication can affect a childs growth and wants, joe and the weight of expectations, how divorce affects families and small children with matt and tk, and of course growing up All life lessons the and tramas the kids sorely lack in the remake which sucks because while life lessons shouldnt beat you over the head the digimon partners were there to help the kids as both a close friend and shoulders to cry on, the digimon lack parents but do understand empathy and want to help their partners it made them feel like real friends and not just two individuals destiny pushed together

@@TheAverageGatsby honestly as someone who grew up with digimon as a 1999 baby it was something very close to me and i loved it, but the reboot while not for me i tried to give a chance until it bored me, the characters dont feel like people for most of the story, i dont need people to be carbon copies of myself to show empathy and understanding, Joe was a buzz kill but if im being honest i saw a lot of myself in him which made me love Tai as someone i wish i was more like growing up, seeing Tai's insecurities made me realize young that things arent what they seem like at first, Soras issues with her mom, Izzy finding out his parents werent really his biological parents, Matt and TKs parents being divorced even Kari not eanting to be a burden to others all things i could relate to as feelings a kid would worry about, the moments of down time really helped too not everything in that world wanted to kill them while some digimon would sacrifice themselves for the kids making them appreciate life and the bonds they forge with others, digimon wasnt just cooler pokemon it was about growing up and life lessons, things kids shows really lack nowadays and i feel really bad a lot of childrens entertainment treats kids like they cant handle heavier themes, some kids need to be reminded they arent alone in how they feel, protectimg kids from things like death and suicide wont help them if they already feel like they cant talk to anyone about it, but when my parents went through divorce i could remember matt and tk and how even though their parents couldnt be together that didnt mean they had to hate each other and could still see one another

The show felt so weird. Cuz it was like, "a new story with characters that are familiar yet different" Since ya know a reboot changes things. But it felt like these characters are supposed to be new but are written as if "yeah you already know who this is so let's not waste time". This series was extremely bad in terms of story, I felt they let the villains down, I mean much of the series was the kids roaming around the digital world and there wasn't much of a general threat, what really helped the first adventure was the villains, outside of Devimon the other major villains had none speaking roles and that just let them down, I have the similar problems with the previous Digimon series to this one, lack of good villain, it's like having Batman without his rouges gallery! Ghost Game so far is taking its time on the evolution side of things, but the mysteries is keeping the show fresh, of course Jellymon is the most fresh partner character to date!

I liked this show, but yeah it has some flaws. As an action adventure in another world, it's a really cool show. It has a lot of good stuff, and overall, I would say I enjoyed it. But Digimon has always been a show about character development-quite literally. Basically no one in this show has character and they don't really change at all. Ultimately, the best way to enjoy this show is to just say 'screw it' and pretend it's the Tai show. Embrace how insane it is at times and just outright skip any episode not focused on Tai. Because then, it is nonstop hype. PS: A lot of people are saying they'd rather watch Tri than this show, and I absolutely agree! Primarily because Tri is my favorite Digimon series thus far...either that or Digimon Fusion. I don't feel like too many people would agree with my opinions...

Adventure 2020 is so weird because every time I think about it the more neutral I become on it. At first it was a 7, thought it over while editing now it's a 6, watching ghost game now it's a 5. But when I say something is a 5 I'm not saying it's bad, just that it's right down the middle. Not offensively bad, and not criminally underrated, just that it's a show that does some good, and some bad. 2020's biggest fault was that the storytelling was a jumbled mess that felt like key jingling in front of a toddler at times trying to get people to remember the characters they loved from the original without doing any of the legwork 01 did with character work. The later half of the show was fine, but there is no conflict between the kids. It's like they are already where they were at by the end of 01 because they are just cutouts of what each of these characters represented by the end of the original. And that's only the case because otherwise you as a viewer wouldn't be able to say, "oh hey look that's the character I remember!" If they started anywhere that wasn't at the end of their character arcs during 2020.

I still have a sneaking suspicion that Toei probably required evolutions to be shown at specific episode counts which was really obnoxious. This second half was such a mixed bag of "boring" to "peak kino" that I'm actually really happy with my spur of the moment decision several months ago to break this review into two videos because of how drastically different each part felt while all at the same time still being underwhelmed by a reboot of a childhood classic that still holds up 20+ years later.

I was hyped after seen the first episodes. This reboot had soo much potential... but after seeing a weekly evolution that feels like werent earned i droped it after the donedevimon episode. i wanna think its the gloval situations fault that this ended like this mess, and that people in toei and bandai are competent enought to make something decent. for now i continue jumping from og adventure and tammers as confort nostalgia. today i just watched a random scene of digimon ghost game from episode 13 and i saw things i didnt expect. maybe i should give it a try. i will be better than appmons(not digimons).

You will enjoy Ghost Game, while it is episodic it still fun to watch (minus a couple episodes between 15 and 20 I think). It also has a body count of humans, with undetermined amount of dead children. Takes a bit to get to them but yeah. Munch munch.

My only problem is that at the end of the day it's a "kids show" and bandai has to sell toys, Soo many episodes resolve with everyone healed, 0 trauma, no one dying, everything resolving after clarifying it was a misunderstanding... But it's very entertaining and there are some darker/more mature episodes that treat us less as an idiot. It's a cool show and best of digimon in years in my opinion

I hated it. They cheated Holydramon and Goddramon out of their fight. Taichi is a terrible character. He keeps coming in and stealing the fights. And Ophanimon is useless week garbage. She's like the Hinata Hyuga of the Digimon world.

Funny thing is anytime people speak about "Charley" they call him Negativemon as KZbin is less likely to pick up the N word. Also i fully agree, this series felt like it was writen by two seperate teams with zero communication on what went on during any of it. I recall hearing that the show did have production problems, besides COVID, apparently episodes were changed around during production, some even being changed just before they air. We were supposed to get a MetalMamemon attacking the gang on a number of occassions, and a battel of greymons, Adventure Greymon vs Xros Wars Greymon. I have to queston this. Who was this show made for? Was it for new people who have never watched Digimon before? Was it for older fans with all the referances? Was it for super digimon nerds? I dunno, seems they couldn't decide ether. The show had promise, a modren day reboot of the original digimon series, but it felt very episodic at times and many times I considered stopping and just waiting till it was over, but there was always a hook that kept me coming back.

Early on I remember hearing people talking about posts mentioning that the agumon evolution line had a deadlines on which episodes we would get each which forced them to work in Metalgreymon as quickly as they could. No I do not have a source on this. Looking back on this I might make another retrospective on this video as like a 1k special or something since this was the first vid to actually get any views, but I genuinely think there had to be some weird meddling with the development of the show. It was a wild trip to say the least.

Is Digimon Adventure 01 (2020) worth watching? No. Let's say that the last half is better than the first half. Why should anyone suffer through the first half to get something decent? That's literally the problem with the Reboot. And Tai. So, I don't know if this is a hot take, but... I think the ninth Digidestined should've showed up as the audience stand-in. Wait, ninth Digidestined? What do you mean? I mean that if the show was to be a reboot, it should've taken more inspiration from the Wonderswan games. I mean, we got Milleniumon, so where was Ryu? I get that the original eight Digidestined are fan favorites, but we could've had Ryu. He could've been the audience stand-in. Edit: I totally also forgot that Ryu made a cameo in Our War Games.

This.. is definitely the The star wars sequel trilogy of Digimon franchise After that Wargreymon vs Zeedmilleniummon fight, this anime's bad rep becomes irredeemable. no matter how good ep 54's animation and battle was, this anime was a slap in my face as a long time Digimon fan. I'm glad Ghost Game is times better than this. It was a fun ride Not perfect, but still watchable unlike this

Thing is I don't even think it would, because I would still complain that the characters fall flat with the exception of everyone getting one or two episodes of them being interesting. Of course we can never truly know but the without having a previously established character to build on in the first half, I would have to assume they would havr to give a shit about developing the new cast. Instead of the cardboard cutouts we had here.

@@TheAverageGatsby yeah that’s true, that’s the worst thing about this series is how kinda boring they all feel, like I feel as though they don’t dwell into the digi destines own personal life as much as in the original And when I say this would’ve been perceived better if it weren’t the original cast is more on the fact you wouldn’t expect as much from them as say the original characters, which yeah sounds dumb in hindsight you should already have the pre conceived notion that it’s going to be good/written good, but again it’s more of the high expectations we have with perceiving this v the original I’ll also say one thing I never understood was why gatomon was also skull knight mon? That just seemed random

@@KariCoolia I thought the gatomon twist was an interesting concept. Just somewhat weak in execution. If they peppered some hints it could have been something, but just like most of the stuff in this show it was only something to be considered for the 5 minutes it was in the spotlight then quickly sidelined for the next rushed episodic shenanigan.

I have plans on watching every digimon movies and all seasons that have a movie forgive me if i skip 2020 My biggest dislike is that it exists Digimon never does reboots who dare they reboot the original seres after just showing the final movie of the original group. the year is 2020 but no 02 movies or new series for them? the absolute disrespect

I stopped trying to watch this when in like the second or first episode they reveled FUCKING OMNIMON, LIKE THAT TAKES THE TENSION AWAY FROM THE SERIES BECAUSE NOW THEY CAN PULL IT OUT AT ANY FUCKING TIME (or at least that is what it feels like to me)

As for the Den of Drake thing, it's something I was playing around with at that time, doing intros using other random pngtuber models (Same with swapping outros around). Stopped being funny, and I just threw the concept out.

I very much enjoyed the remake. really vibe with the characters. Mimi, Joe and TK got some much needed attention. honestly Mimi and Joe NOT being whiny/selfish bitchs on and off the entire time was pleasant surprise. probably better than the original overall.

🤣 he say, "it was almost unwatchable" dude, if you think the original digimon was better written you have the taste of a child. I went back and rewatched adventure after watching this and other than nostalgia, its not a very well put together story. At all. Very choppy (and im talking about the subbed originals) almost like they had no idea where they were gonna go with it at first. Its very childish and the issues caused by the badguys in the new one are horrible (nukes, ect) and originally they were like what.... breaking stoplights? So i mean, your opinion is your opinion i guess but if you are going to takle this as if your opinion should matter to others you should probably loose the nostalgia goggles and compare them in a way that actually points out the amount of actual effort put in by the show creators.

Thanks for your opinion my guy. My biggest complaint was how the first half of the show was borderline unwatchable because of how boring it was it was a show with zero substance in favor of a show that felt like dangling keys in front of a baby. All spectacle with minimal substance Glad to see some people enjoyed the remake so it's at least not completely pointless, and the 2nd half of the show was much much better than the first half but for me it was a little too late.

Honestly the reason I didn't like the mimi vs andromon episode is that they treated andromon being stuck forever in plants as a heroic moment even though andromon was just being controled meaning they basically killed him for being mind controled.
