Why I'm SWITCHING from CANON (M50) to SONY (a7C)!

I'd say it's definitely worth it. Would look into picking it up used instead now though as you can probably get it for around $1500, which is pretty good! Thanks for watching!

Really good video! I was in the same exact spot, although videography and photography are just a hobby for me, with my KZbin channel being the biggest factor for me. I tried the Sony A7III with a Sigma Art 24-70 2.8 for a couple of days, but then returned it. It just wasn't worth the hassle for me. I hated the menu, the lack of flipscreen and bad autofocus. The A7C would solve the last two issues, but I will wait for the Sony A7IV and see how the specs turn out. Such a hard decision... I really want a full touchscreen and 10bit, so I will save up money while waiting. Since I use multiple cameras for my KZbin channel, I will definately keep my Canon M50, since it gives me good results in 1080 and with the Sigma primes.

Thanks for the detailed comment and for watching - really interesting to hear people are in pretty much the same position! What was your experience of the Sigma 24-70 2.8? That is my dream lens. It looks like the only downside is the size! Yeah, I decided to skip the a7iii because there were just a few many deal breakers for me. The a7C does it all for me, and you do actually get used to the menus surprisingly! But I completely understand you waiting to see what the a7IV comes out with as I think that actually may be so close to the perfect hybrid KZbin camera! 10bit would be insane! The M50 is an unbelievable camera for the price - only the lack of 4k lets it down, but that isn't really essential for KZbin to be fair. Thanks again for watching! 👌

@@arranpbrown Tbh. since I am so used to using primes (Sigma 16mm & 56mm and Canon 32mm, all 1.4) I was a little bit disappointed in the 24-70 art. Especially at 24mm the vignetting and distortion was quite strong, which is a no go for me, since this is my favorite focal length. Should I buy into the Sony mount, I now would aim for the 24mm GM. Sigma just spoiled me with its fantastic 16mm 1.4, this lens is just perfect for me.

@@ElBoyoElectronico that makes sense. I think for the kind of videos I make (or want to make), a reliable zoom would suit me better and would be more versatile. But yes, I've heard the Sigma 16mm 1.4 is a fantastic lens! I was considering picking it up for a while before I decided to go full-frame!

I got the A7iii for about $1200 and a used Atomos for about $500, but I got fantastic deals on both. I also have a creative partner who does my shooting and monitors my video so I don't have to see myself, technically, when hand shooting. The lack of a second card slot on the A7c means it's a complete non-starter for me, sadly.

Thanks for the comment - interesting to hear your situation! Sounds like a nice setup to be honest! Yeah, the a7C absolutely isn't going to suit everyone and I think if anything is going to be a deal breaker it is going to be the lack of dual card slots, so I get that. Thanks for watching! 🙌

Yes - the 1080p at 120fps is a bonus I guess! I was actually fine with 60fps, but 120fps does make it look even better! Find myself using 4K 24fps more than anything else though, as it just looks so sharp. Thanks for watching, Rama!

What lights do you use?

I use the Godox SL60W with an Andoer Godox Softbox as my key light and sometimes also use the Aputure AL-M9 as a rim light. Not meant for sports wildlife big lenses and its 3x price of m50. It's still confusing nontouch menu lcd expensive sony bodies and limited lenses. Ef adapter not recommended over native glass for af and focus features or ibis in video mode. No front aperture/iso dial. This is apsc m50 vs ff sony. I went canon because well established and widespread...wide range lenses color science focus price easy of use touch screen flip articulate but dont like crop overheat limited record...Sony maybe no flip still confusing nontouch menu lcd expensive bodies glass but like no overheat unlimited record no crop?. I want camera neither these cripples at rp price.

Good points - however, I still don’t think the Sony has too many dealbreakers for me. For my use, it’s the ideal camera to be honest, plus you can get around issues like the menu by (1) taking time to learn the controls, and (2) customising it so that you have quick access to the settings you use most. This is what I’ve done and I now don’t really see Sony’s menu system as an issue. Thanks for watching and commenting!
