I am so glad I found this video because I am as well! I agree with all of your points. One other reason I have is Jason is comfortable in both of her worlds. He's comfortable around her parents and the rich side but also will go on quirky grocery shopping trips with her for a date. I think he's someone who makes the rich side much more tolerable and may be a bridge with her relationship with her parents. I am also someone who believes she shouldn't have broke up with him over the lawsuit. I think it could have been talked out with them and her parents. They could have reached a settlement with him. I think he needed some understanding from her and idk how she couldn't understand it was just a sticky situation that needed to be talked out. That there was no malace on his side.

I always was Team Jason really. He's the only one who Lorelai really changes for. And I'm not saying you must change for a man but her standard operating procedure is to not give anyone a win, always to push things to her wants. And Jason actually convinces her occasionally to give in. Which makes the relationship more equitable.

Lorelai didn't change for Jason. The one she really change for is Like. Jason tried way to hard to get Lorelai to go out with him. Luke never had to try. Jason never understood Lorelai. Lorelai change for Jason that's so funny.

@@lauriecarson6483 She very much did change. She accepted compromise when he asked her to sleep in the other room and she did. She compromised on some of their date ideas. Did she change who she was? No. And she shouldn't. But she compromised in ways she did not for the other men. The relationship had a give and take to it that Max absolutely did not have, nor did Christopher and even Luke had very little give and take.

@@lauriecarson6483 i accept that Jason frankly wanted it too much and the relationship was not good. But imagine Lorelai dating anyone else with the quirks of Jason and having it go anywhere. Not happening. Luke largely changed to mirror her habits because he enjoyed her presence but Jason was the closest to a relationship changing her. I still think the show obviously was leading to Luke so I can't argue with the end game and Jason's story became impossible to continue. But I find him far more compelling than Max or Christopher.

I LOVED Jason. I agree with your points, especially when you said they wouldn’t work on tv because they’re too good together but it made me think that they would have worked perfectly in a show where it started with them married. They would be the quirky odd parents who are fun. But as a couple mid stream, they were never going to stay interesting. He was my favorite boyfriend.

This take on Jason is so refreshing. I love your analysis! I’ve heard many people criticize him because of his quirks which is silly because as you pointed out, Lorelai has plenty of quirks too. I was just talking about this with my husband recently. We agreed that we’re ultimately team Luke & Lorelai, but also team Jason in a sense because he was a great partner for her too (unlike Max and Chris).

You raise some very good points. In my mind I always thought of Jason as her sassmate, because they always seemed to be on the same page with their fast-talking humor, in a way that we don't really quite see with any of her other love interests. Though Chris comes close. But ultimately, I can't ship Jason or Chris, because they just can't fit into her Stars Hollow life.

I totally agree! I really liked Jason and felt bad about how things ended between them. What I feel like a little gap in the script is that there was no conversation whatsoever after Lorelei´s grandmother had revealed at a dinner that Lorelai had been surely financially bleeding while trying to start Dragonfly business. Jason is very rich, he was present at that dinner and I cannot imagine he would not try at least to help a little, when Lorelei seriously struggled. But I guess it was an intent of screenwriters to get her to ask Luke, which was nice and interesting scene, but still.. :-)

I'm also team Jason, and even though i love Luke and Lorelai and i believe they are a good match because there is a lot of chemistry there, i believe Lorelai should have ended up with Jason. I agree with most points except for the one where you mention that Jason could never end up with her because he would make for bad tv. I think their relationship could have its own space, they could be the healthy balanced relationship to ground the show. (Like what i believe Lane and Dave's relationship was meant to be, a good one, where both people are compatible and get along great.) They could have been the Monica and Chandler of the show, the steady ones, who are part of the chaos around them, but as a team. Also a lot of good plotlines could have come from the fact that Emily might hate Jason because she is a snob bitch, and Richard might hate Jason due to the lawsuit (which was absolutely prompted by his dick move, pun intended), but TECHNICALLY, according to their standards, Jason is perfect for Lorelai; has his own business and is driven and ambitious, rich, comes from a good family, understands social obligations, etc. THEY FIT. So like i said, i believe plotlines were available, you can have a bunch of episodes with the Gilmores dealing with their separation plus the lawsuit, let's remember that Emily separated from Richard because of his backstabbing towards Jason, due to what that might cause to their relationship with Lorelai, so Emily does recognize that what Richard did was not a good move. Maybe Richard crossed paths with Jason at an event, decided to listen to him and opened up in sad moments, maybe Richard recognized that he made a big mistake, out of fear of losing his entire life's work, his finantial security and Emily's, but ironically his own actions made him lose Emily alltogether, maybe Jason gave him advice and support through the separation, all while being in a lawsuit against one another, maybe Richard saw an opportunity to clear the air, make a deal, Jason drops the lawsuit, they agree to a cease fire. Emily decided to take Richard back after she finds out that they have settled their differences, maybe she reaches out, she invites Richard, Jason and Lorelai individually to a "one on one lunch", and whey they all arrive at the same time, Emily opens the front door and invites them all in. They have lunch, water under the bridge, they all began to heal, Emily warms up to Jason after he helped Richard see what Emily meant to him, Lorelai warms up to his parents for giving his partner another chance. And for those who think they have no chemisty, i believe they are looking for the tv show version of chemistry instead of the real life version. Whey they go to their grocery store date you can see them having really good chemistry, their witty banter is fuel by compatibility, plus, if you really want the tv show butterflies, the moment Jason explains to Lorelai what the key meant, what she means to him, and that he wants her in his life a lot more than she is now, that is THE moment.

Really nice video, thank you for it. When i was a teenager - im 30+ now :') - i was team Luke. Second was Jason but as I grown up i was like...Jason, yep I would like a Jason, i have it yes, and that would be perfect for Lorelai. As you said in your video, he is not infantalazing her. Because they have same basic as a person, they can totally handle eacother quirks, habits and all. Same intellectuals with humor and sarcasm, but with softness. Yes, Jason is soft, in a good way, and when it need to be. They could totally grow together and help eachother family problems, because they know this world and knows how it works and yes they do not like it. So yea, im team Jasonsince i grew up. :D
