this was so inspiring!! I went vegetarian in march back when quarantine started, but I never really enjoyed meat that much. i was the kid at thanksgiving who took a small piece to not seem disrespectful. lol Anyways I went to a camp in july and met another vegetarian and we both decided to try being vegan for the two weeks we were there. It was surprisingly so easy. So when i got home i continued eating this way, and I don't miss anything. I feel you on feeling liberated after going vegan!! Any and everything vegan sounds good, and I am WAY less picky. I realized that all the foods I disliked were animal based products. I started following vegnews, maggie baird, and you on instagram; and i realized all of the positive affects this lifestyle had for not only myself but the environment. I felt like I was actually making a difference every day. Your video was so relatable and honest. Thank you for sharing your life with us!!

You got this!! Don't worry if you "stray" every once in a while, you're not a bad vegan if you do! Don't give yourself a hard time for it! It's totally normal, especially when you've been conditioned to believe in one thing for your whole life! You got this!! My favorite quote is definitely "a 100 imperfect vegans are better than one perfect vegan". You're doing so much good in this world!

I've been vegan for over a dozen years and I did it for the animals, but to this day I tell people it's for my health. Whenever I mention the animals, folks go onto the offensive. I'd rather deal with health questions (you need protein!) and not have people convince me that killing animals for food is the moral thing to do. Being in Texas, business lunches with 'good ole boys' are the worst, which thankfully have been limited with COVID going on.

Oh my God, the vegan thing and the ED, yes yes yes yes yes yes yes and a million times yes!! Same thing happened with me! I was so scared to go vegan cuz it was known as a "restrictive diet" and I thought it would worsen my ED, but it did the exact opposite! It helped heal my relationship with food. This is exactly why veganism is so personal and important to me. I went vegetarian first, for a year, but my eating was still disordered, I had not healed completely. After watching some documentaries, I decided that veganism was the answer for me. That was almost 4 years ago!!

Health and wellness was at the top of my list then I looked down at my dog and bawled my eyes out not understand how people didn’t see little chickens and cows as friends. Mind you at the time I was vegetarian 😂 milk products was what kept me from going all in but then I said these belly aches I have to do it! And it’s been 7 years vegan but 17 years meat free 💃🏽

Going vegan after starting recovery made me realize that my food wasn't just about me, my body and the way I looked. I realized that it has an impact on so many levels and that helped me a lot disconnecting from a restrictive mindset. Obviously there is still a long way to go but I feel liberated by having my choices line up with my values.

I was vegan starting freshman year to senior year of college because of health reasons, I never really liked meat, and digestion/stomach problems. I stopped because my skin was breaking out more than ever, I snacked way too much because my meals were not as filling (that’s on me bc I ate a lot of frozen food/healthy snacks), and felt I was missing out when all my friends wanted to eat out. Now I eat 75% plant based (I love trying new vegan foods/places) but will eat eggs, cheese sometimes, and salmon!

I first became Vegan because of my love for animals, then years later I went to an allergist and he ran tests on me and come to find out, I'm allergic to all animal protein, so eating a Vegan diet was a smart thing for me to do, and I didn't even know it.

Allergic to animal protein? I didn’t realise that was a thing, if so I wonder if that or something similar resonates with myself. A year ago all of a sudden I couldn’t digest any dairy products at all it was really sudden. That and for a number of years I would get sick from eating meat products, it progressively got worse and last year I threw in the towel cause if I ate any meat products I would be sick for days on end. I still don’t know why I have that reaction, all I know is since cutting it out and turning vegan I’ve had no problems since, plus overall am much happier!

I loved to find out more about your journey, Remy! I think we’re the same age (born in 1995?) and it seems we went through ED and recovery at about the same time. My recovery was also a big transformative moment, I found out about minimalism, started running and practicing yoga, and of course changed my eating habits! It felt like I could start from scratch and truly focus on fuelling my body, and although I did not become vegan, I can go days without eating meat or animal products because I’ve diversified my palate so much. I’m also lactose intolerant which pushes me to turn to vegan options since veggie options usually replace meat by cheese. It’s so heartwarming to hear about a story similar to mine and I’m grateful for all the years we have lived in recovery! I feel like I comment this a lot on your insta but I’m thankful for your existence on my corner of the internet, for the pretty pictures, yummy recipes, kind heart and feeling of not being alone. 💖

I became vegan in October 2019. I grew up on a dairy then meat farm, but it never strikes me as bad, only as " this is what must happen". Realising the bare minimun my familly did for the cows back then wasnt even the norm now made me research " ethicals" way of consuming animals products and in less than one day, I understood there wasnt any. I think small things I noticed in my everyday life in the previous years had already prepared me for this, so I stopped cold tofu. Even my omnivore mother say that she is proud of me as this is clearly something which align with my values. I honestly didnt notice anything health wise except some small weight loss ( my guess is the cheese) I was not pursuing ( but it wasnt bad either). I also havent watched most videos because like you, I felt it wasnt necessary, although I did see one about sheeps who died in a shipwreck while being shipped to Middle-East to become meat. Horrible. As for dairy and meat, I lved on one of the " nicest" farms back then.I just never realised the baby cows should have stayed with their mothers and how sad it was that they were always pregant. I didnt notice the cows left to become meat after a few years, and never ask as I was never supposed to take up the familly business. I feel very sorry for them now.

There is nothing wrong with doing it for health reasons. That is why I did it. Dairy products destroy me. After I discovered that dairy bothered me so much, I liked into a Whole Foods plant based diet and it made total sense to me so I changed to it. I have been eating this way since 1980 and never looked back. All my friends and family thought I was off the wall, but I stuck with it. Now they ask me questions all the time. You are very bright and articulate.

Hey there! I think I have a good point to make about this idea of "veganism as an eating disorder", I was scouted last year by a model agent, and the first thing they told me is to start a vegan diet so I could lose weight fast (I lost 8kg in 4 months, so 18 pounds). I had no problem because actually, I've been wanting to become vegan since a looong time ago, but I talked with a lot of people who work in the industry (managers, producers, photographer, makeup artist, not models) and they told me that is true that they kinda force young models/new faces to eat this way so they can lose weight faster and not getting fat, which can become an eating disorder if you get really obsessed and paranoid with it... I'm myself dealing with that now, but I spoke openly about with my mom and I'm already getting the treatment and psychological support🥰
@Veggiekins3 жыл бұрын
Sorry you had that experience! I've never had anyone recommend it to me for that reason or heard that personally, but it's so unfortunate as I'm sure it would automatically have an effect on one's relationship with veganism too. That toally sucks :|

i am going vegan last year because i almost obese as a girl in early twenty and have mental issues, and it's not just obese but also make me feel sluggish, i also have high blood pressure when in high stress level . i easy to get sick, i have chronic gastritis, migraine and easy to get an allergy . i also know that i'm allergy to animal protein, but still eating it back then, usually i get pimple because of it . Then last year i decide to go vegan because of I don't like eating animal product that much and want to improve my health, but the more time i go through i care more about the environment and animals . And I really happy now, not just physically but also mentally ❤️

I really appreciate you sharing your story! Honestly, I can relate to SO SO much you've said and it makes me smile I am not the only one :) Went dairy-free due to an intolerance (and prior allergy). Struggled with an eating disorder and found that veganism actually helped me look at food in a much more healthy way. Plus, I agree 100% that with time, regardless of the reason bringing you to veganism, it is worth exploring the ethical and environmental sides! It is very important to be vegan for something "bigger" than ourselves! And certainly, I love your approach to inspiring people rather than forcing them - I have the same take on it! Anyways, sending you lots of love! Stay safe and sound!

I have gone vegan for health reasons. I feel like we need to lift people up more then saying going vegan to get healthy or using to prevent illnesses is not a good enough reason. My reason to go vegan was that I read about the connections of cancer to meat and dairy intake. I had a lot of people in my close circle have died of cancer or have been impacted by it. It would be crazy to say that going vegan at the age of 34 that now I've realized how meat was produced. Let's judge less and embrace people in this community. Lot's of my friends are not vegans and I'm happy to see every time they eat a plat based dish.

Hey I really enjoyed this video. I'm a fairly new vegan. I have a question which I've been struggling with the last few months. How do you tell someone why you're vegan if they ask without seeming judgmental/preachy or alienating them away from veganism? I always feel like by explaining why I am vegan I may be alienating the other person or making them feel like a bad person. But I also don't want to be like "oh i don't care what people eat, " as if it's purely an individual decision or lifestyle choice cos i do feel that once you consider the ethical implications of veganism it is extremely difficult to logically justify contributing to industries that exploit animals. I guess people find the practicality of veganism hard which is understandable. I don't know. Am i the only one who struggles with this?
