Aaron Sinclair Exactly. @antletruth411 on Instagram. Exposes Doc well! "Once big cats grow too large for cub handling, Antle dumps many at other substandard facilities and/or warehouses them at his own location in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. During a behind-the-scenes tour at Antle’s facility, the HSUS investigator saw dozens of adult tigers kept in cramped, reconfigured horse stalls with cement floors. A double-wide stall contained 13 two-year-old tigers, while the rest of the stalls each contained one to four mature tigers. He also said that he normally euthanizes white tigers who are born cross-eyed. Crossed eyes is a common hereditary defect in white tigers, who must be extensively inbred to produce white fur, blue eyes, and chocolate stripes. In 2016, Antle attempted to expand his network internationally by applying for a permit to export 18 tigers to Mexico for filming and a breeding operation. The HSUS and Humane Society International filed successful legal comments in opposition, asserting to U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service that the proposal would violate federal law." This, Netflix often makes documentaries where they only let the involved parties speak. But then what viewers believe comes down to who can talk better. I'd love for an independent expert to comment on how Joe and Carole are keeping the tigers.

Phina: I am not jabbing here at all, rather I have a little different take on this. Here goes... the documentary was perfect the way it was presented. I do not think an animal rights or abuse perspective would have been effective. It would have come off as preachy and that turns people off. You don't want Michael Moore on this kind of project. Instead, the greed, insanity and criminality made the case for the poor animals, albeit vicariously, that much more effective. The directors and producers were right in following the story, not creating it. We have all seen documentaries that want to illicit shame in its audience but seldom do they make us actually have to pause and think. That's all. Take care!
@Elladajosie
@Elladajosie 4 жыл бұрын
@@jamessullivan4391 Thanks for your take on it- I definitely agree that a documentary on the abuse the big cats go through would not get anywhere near as much attention. I just wish scientific facts were thrown in more often to counter the outlandish opinions of the characters. A few friends of mine came away confused about the whole situation and condemning animal sanctuaries after watching. But as you said I think it got people thinking about the situation, which is certainly a plus. Take care as well!

"If someone wanted the Tigers to eat Him they'd cover the shoes in Sardine Oil" - Carol Baskin So I was shocked by that lapse in her judgment and I'm surprised the filmmakers didn't pursue that more......Why is no one talking about this???? It's near the scene where Joe is almost eaten by the two Tigers, Then it cuts to others such as Carol discussing the conspiracy Joe had lamented to anyone and everyone (He claims a cologne was planted on his shoes to attract the tigers).

I mean, while I definitely think she killed her husband or, at the veeery least, was involved in some way, this was just a throwaway comment that I feel is being blown out of proportion. Cats would obviously be more inclined to want to eat fish oil covered shoes than nibble on a meal smellin like Calvin Klein. Realistically, if she had anything to do with her husbands death (...which she 100% did *ahem* allegedly), something so messy wouldn't be her go to aaand there would be no need to go through the trouble of hiding his body as she could just play ot off as some "horrible accident"
@Bassistking
@Bassistking 4 жыл бұрын
It’s simple really. The cats were exposed to old boots as a toy to gnaw on, and so when Joe Exotic was in the cage filming his campaign video, the tiger was basically thinking “Oh, a toy!” Embarrassed, Joe claimed cologne on his boots to detract his own stupid mistake.

I don't think exposing animal cruelty took the front seat here. The constant pacing in circles should have been mentioned as an abnormal behavior when any stimulation whatsoever is lacking, a comment on how tigers are solitary so feeding them in groups can lead to injuries. A tiger cub stuffed into luggage, minute-old Cubs separated from their mother by shoving a metal bar into the cage and people still somehow find Joe Exotic "nice guy" material. This is that kind of animal "love" where cruelty continues as soon as the cameras are off.

Because they can't. It would shut down the major zoos in the US. This is what the act also would include. Many of these zoos do not have their big cat's in Cage's at all. They have them in a natural setting without a cage. Something that the public isn't told about when they are being told every zoo is bad.

I don't know the details of the full Big Cat Public Safety bill but I do know that I would have liked for more of a push on further bans of such practices like the breeding, private ownership and the wildlife trade. I feel like all of this sensionalization could of at least brought people to more consciousness to the plight of these species, even if that wasn't the focus of the show. What can we do about it? I feel like the show didn't highlight that. People are now demonising Big Cat Rescue after seeing Carole on the show. It's like people are just talking about the scummy drama that went down with her and not the cats and other wildlife that's at stake or the fact that it's not just her that runs it. I was reading this the other day www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/blog/the-truth-about-tiger-king-and-cats-in-captivity/

@@paulipaz I read the article as I do all information that people share. Interesting note.. you can become a member by paying for an accreditation.. a sponsorship will cost 25,000.00 .. that's a diamond sponsor.. which BCR is BTW.. and they also hosted the humane society conference. No doubt that helps to get the one sentence mention in that article.. but thanks. BCR was recently told that in order to keep their non profit status they need to donate to conservation. As they have been only giving the minimum. Hence the try out for virtual zoo tour's good luck with that. I suggest looking at Big Cat Rescue Watch for the information on her organization. Many file's to see what they are really doing. Not to mention the raising of rabbits to feed the big cats. Yes they raise rabbits and club them so they can't run and let them be eaten alive. So much for no kill facility. Where's PETA going to weigh in on that. Now they will have to since it's all being exposed. No amount of Caroles money or threats of suing everyone is going to stop her from being exposed this time. You can't silence everyone. Thanks again for sharing ❤️. It's clear that it was a totally unbaised article.. said no one..

If PETA is behind it I will ALWAYS question it. Those people are nuts. There are plenty of RESPONSIBLE zoos in America working hard to preserve these species and educate the public. I look at my nearest zoo, the Bronx Zoo, and look at the phenomenal work done to improve the areas for animals like tigers and gorillas compared to the first enclosures I saw back in the early 1980s. They have come a long way. Any legislation driven by PETA will shut down everything.

Doc Antle gave of the most creepy vibes for me. He seemed to me the most calculating the way he presented himself. Always very controlled and thought through what he'd show and tell of his business. Carol is of course very invested in her Big Cat rescue mission and while she showed more control than Joe Exotic, she still gave more personal details than she propably intended. Doc never did that. He always seemed very in control of what he gave away. Who knows what he's really doing behind closed doors...

I don't have Netflix. I have not seen any of these episodes. And I am so saddened that this is what is considered entertainment now. Not one person is actually concerned about the health and well-being of the cats. This is all for a profit. And not one dime is being driven towards the rescue of these cats from this bizarre story. And these directors roll their eyes and talk about people without ethics. A documentary is supposed to tell a true story without salaciousness. Without swaying the viewers one way or the other. I can tell that this story hasn't been told without bias during this interview. It's trying to make you feel empathy for one character over the other. I have already read about the story of Joe and Carole years ago. And snippets I have seen of this piece of work series, interviews of the cast and characters, and now interview of the filmmakers. Utter garbage. Like it's said, you are what you eat. We are in a fast food lifestyle. All flash and no substance. Just like this Netflix series.

Only on KZbin can someone who hasn’t seen a documentary have an opinion on it. The thing about the plight of the animals being downplayed is to create a deliberate void for the viewer to discover. They don’t tell you how to feel, you come across it yourself. As far as this leading onto personal responsibility and subsequent activism, it’s going to be people with energy and motivation who will push it forward, not your average joe watching KZbin. If you don’t get the hidden message in the show, you’re not the kind of person that would ever become an activist for animals. It’s weeding out the people who just watch for entertainment from those who will actually stand up in some way. I get that you might be angry that more people won’t do anything! But you can’t bully them into it. It they feel it, we need them to get moving, if not, oh well, you can still move yourself, you don’t need to wait for them. So watch the show and see how they allowed the audience space to be stirred without telling them what to think.

@Tiberiu Gherasim maybe you didn't read it when I said I had read about Carole and Joe years ago. A Netflix mockumentary series isn't going to tell me what I don't already know. I've seen enough video clips to know it's just going to make me mad if I watch it and I already have high blood pressure.

Crystal Wilson .... surpass the standards of most Zoos. Oh so that’s why when Carole Baskin applied for a zoo license two times she was denied. Both times. That makes total sense. The standards surpassed most zoo’s yet the state of Florida denied BCR a zoo license not once but twice. 😳🤔😆💯.... I’m curious... where are you getting these facts for the standards ect...

The series is quite disappointing when you actually learn what really happened here. It's like they think the animal abuse is ok or not important enough to highlight. It's really not ok its fucking disgusting. I hope Joe and all the others responsible have some serious karma.

@FreyasArts 4 жыл бұрын
I would like to see a continuation of this docu series, maybe there you could concentrate a bit more on the animal abuse. There were some hints on the series already but it all got drowned in the personal drama. Maybe you could've shown the difference how the animals are being handled by Carol vs. Joe. And the text at the end didn't really help either. No call to action, no suggestions how one could maybe help the animals, like boycotting zoos which still allow petting young big cats.

Mystique Darkholme .... there you are again... So Carole changed... Great business decision on her end. Sign of the times. More money in non profit saving the animals when she turned herself around. Dosent explain why she kept her breeding license until 2004 or why she attempted to obtain a zoo license twice. Was denied twice. Most likely because she built the zoo on a landfill. Glad I found this comment. Let’s just SS this

I think this series is a masterpiece. At the first glance its just a documentary about trashy people abusing animals. But if you look closer you can analyse different aspects. For example how easy the viewer can be convinced to believe someone or gravitate towards ones truth. Also toxic masculinity or how our upbringing shape our future relationships.

I have to question the stupid practice of breeding Ligers. These animals don't look impressive- just big, and they couldn't survive in the wild. The male tiger has the growth restricting gene, whereas it's the female lion that has the growth restricting gene- this is why Tigons are no different in size- but often look like overgrown domesticated Ginger Tom Cats. Breeding Ligers is like breeding an animal for its arthritic properties.
