This is easily one of the best channels for language learning. It’s extremely underrated. Extreme levels of detail, very insightful, very practical, no BS, clear presentation of information, and results to back it up. Because of how radical your method is and the level of success, you establish a pretty good reference point for other learners. I didn’t realize until having watched your videos what specifically I needed to be doing to finally lock in my Spanish. I’m planning on doing it now. I literally need to write about things I commonly talk about and rehearse speaking them. It’s so simple, but I was too focused on consuming a wide array of inputs, and my Spanish is like your French was-a lot of recognition, but speaking lagging well behind. The wildest part is you don’t have a ton of uploads, but I’m subscribing anyway.

getting fluent in 6 weeks is BS. this is not one of the best channels. really? 6 weeks? you mean to say got fluent faster than a native italian who has lived in italy with italians everyday? it takes years my man.
@Leonardo-Lenguaje
@Leonardo-Lenguaje Жыл бұрын
@@JV-km9xk not in terms of the timelines, but the specificity of the process. I seldom find any channels explaining the grind and the methods to learn languages efficiently. The closest I’ve come to in other channels is them talking about concepts, for instance: 1. You need immersion 2. SRSs are useful 3. Consume content in multiple ways (TV, etc) 4. Learn grammar Also after everything I’ve seen on the internet so far, there is one truth I have found… the whole “learn languages the way natives do” thing is extremely overhyped and not helpful. Learning like a native isn’t efficient nor does it make sense to follow that path as a language learner. Natives start learning their languages right out of the womb and take years to learn it, while that is essentially their only job, doing so 24/7… this isn’t practical for any language learner that has less than 3-5 years to study the language uninterrupted. It’s also unreasonable to learn this way, because it doesn’t take advantage of the fact that as a person who has acquired one language you already know most of the general concepts, consequently your process to learn should be different than a native learning their first language and, given the same amount of time and exposure as a native learning their first language, the process should go faster. It can go even faster if your methodology is refined-e.g. like the US military’s language learning institute which has found an extremely aggressive approach to teach languages in 1-3 years. They admit though that their process works because of how much surface area of the language they cover in that fixed window of time-it’s effective because it’s comprehensive, and it’s fast because they’re getting in a similar number of hours as though you were studying the language over an entire college tenure. All that to say-there are no shortcuts. It’s just about reps and avoiding major missteps. My biggest takeaway from this channel has been to work on script writing and practicing. It’s understated how important doing this is for reaching fluency. So I’ve set this as a goal in my two target languages-Spanish and Japanese. All that being said, did this guy get “fluent” in 6 weeks, depends on how he’s defining it. He probably did become really comfortable with a small working set of the language and capable of talking about topics adjacent to what he learned. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if random topics outside of his comfort zone are very rough-there’s just not enough time in 6 weeks to absorb that much content. So we’re in agreement there. I just like some of the concepts he presents here-specifically writing a sort of manifest about all the things you ever intend to talk about and reviewing it daily. More channels should highlight how useful this could potentially be. I will agree with you in the general sense though. His timelines aren’t important to me, because they are kind of nonsense. As for the methodology and specificity though, I like it. One thing I will challenge him on though is how he works on acquisition of the culture, because learning a language goes beyond the ability to understand and employ grammatical structures… it’s also body language, knowing when to use what, understanding how to approach each encounter in a culturally appropriate way. The issue with becoming extremely fluid while lacking a depth in the culture is that native speakers may expect more of you and your errors may become more jarring-this is just speculation though. E.g. if a guy with a fluid American accent commits tons of technical and cultural errors, I’m more likely to hold them to a higher standard linguistically than a person with many pronunciation errors. Fluency can be a double edged sword.

I used to learn the whole texts by heart to improve my English speaking and writing skills. I must admit that this method really helped me improve, but prior to do this I had picked up some graet knowledge about grammar and basic vocabulary. Learning whole texts works wonders especially if in your target language there are grammar structures, words or expression not so typical for your mother language. It helps to just remember where you should use it. Howhighly surprised was I when I found out that I could just say whatever I wanted without thinking about how to put it into words.

I love this so much! I used to memorize scripts for my Japanese final presentations and I have to admit learning that way really kept the vocabulary and pronunciations into my head. Granted I was memorizing my lines that I spoke and others that were said but I felt like it truly helped me to remember some phrasings, vocabulary and grammar points (we had to include specific kinds for the finals). I knew it was useful because of how we can memorize songs and the vocabulary and intonation within it. But it never really occurred to me how useful it could be and how well it translates to building a base vocabulary for speaking especially for using this method. And that it could be such an effect, although somewhat challenging, way to learn grammar. But the benefit is so much greater, it's amazing. They say that genius leaves clues and I'm so glad you've been chronicling your method and progress. You really opened up a whole new door to language learning! 👏 ✨️✨️

Comprehensible input of any kind will only increase your passive vocabulary, every form of studying a language will actually only give you a few active vocab/phrases and a whole lot of passive vocabulary. To start seeing success in building active vocab you have to speak the language, correct your mistakes and then speak again and again until you no longer need to correct any mistakes the way Language Lords shows in his first video, that form of learning was the best thing he's come up with so far. What he does here in this video is extremely unnecessary, he could've built a huge passive vocab base by reading through this exact script with complete understanding (Meaning looking up all the words and understanding every line spoken) 2-4 times a day and accomplished the same thing in a week, in fact he could've done it with two videos in a week, at the end of the day him memorizing the script was to build his vocab and get a sense for grammer without studying it, reading with understanding would've helped him achieve exactly that, memorizing this script has just made him quite familiar with the vocab it contains nothing more. But maybe I'm wrong seeing as he was able to communicate a few thoughts through Italian through only this method of learning...

While watching the videos one thing I kept having trouble wrapping my head around was how you were practicing the translation. In the video we see you reciting the Italian but I didn't see you saying something in English then repeating it in Italian or vice versa. I was thinking what good does it do for him to just be able to recite things in Italian if he doesn't know the translation, well other than getting the pronunciation and familiarity with the sound of the language. Common sense tells me you memorized both English and Italian but just spoke the Italian part but for some reason my brain just got stuck in the mud because I did not visually see you doing it, so I tried something. I played the Easy Italian video and tried to memorize each sentence as it appeared on screen. I read/spoke the English then as I spoke the Italian in my mind I was thinking the English portion and doing that it, whatever block I had went away and the method, even though it was just a few lines of dialogue, was really effective. I look forward to utilizing this method. Also your videos helped me realize Iwas not spending nearly enough time studying so I am going to have to become more disciplined and consistent with that.

This is great stuff, and a useful counterbalance to those gurus who claim that all you need is input. If you're like me, you can achieve high levels of reading and listening and still not be able to speak a word. I need a lot of consious speaking practice, and this seems like an efficient and fun way to start. And I particularly like the idea of using a little vocab to fluency at the outset. You need a foundation to build on! In my experience, one of the key problems with language learning is that people move on too fast, before they have really mastered and internalised the point they are working on. Being able to slowly write out an exercise is not nearly enough - it has to become easy and automatic...

I get what he's trying to do here but I prefer his other technique of memorizing personal stories/monologues. The vid does add the listening component which is valuable. 3. The thing that makes Cam's techniques work for him is his dedication, the hours he puts into them... but make no mistake, this rote memorization shit is PAINFUL ( this is why lang learners search for less painful techniques such as comprehensible input & immersion). It will take a lot of motivation & focus to make this work. 4. I can see myself memorizing a couple of short personal monologues or conversation scripts (ala Moses McCormick), but not this long ass video memorization. This is a little crazy. lolol Thanks for the vid!

Not just classical. Aussie guitar player said, it took him a month to nail down a 10 second section of the OG's music as he prepared to play it as a tribute. A month for 10 seconds!!! Let that dedication sink in for all budding musicians, language learners et al.

Hi there, your experiments are great, i am looking forward to the results. You also need to consider the fact that spanish french and italian belong to the same family and therefore it is so much easier to learn one of the if you already know one or two of them. I propose to try this approach with a language that belong to another family of language to see if it really works. You may choose german or swedish or what ever. I love your videos, thanks a lot for sharing them, i am very curious to try out that 5min speaking technique of yours with german, i can read books but my speaking skills in german sucks and i realised that i cannot go further without actively recalling words and phrases , thus speaking lol

Y'all i think he burned out. The thing is, i really think he's for real and that he really does learn these languages the way he describes, teaches, and documents it. Just that, doing it the way he does simply isn't sustainable. If he has a full time job, what he's doing is going to put a strain on so many aspects of his life: mental health, physical health, and financial stability. Not everyone can risk their day jobs on a KZbin career, or put in 8hours of study time on top of a job. Also, learning languages the way he does is so, so intense. People generally need 2-4 years on average to learn a new language and achieve fluency WITH FORMAL CLASSES. Imagine shoehorning all that knowledge in 1-2 months. That's terrifyingly insane. I'm actually SO GLAD he's taking a break. Doing it like this seems like it makes you forget to be kind to yourself, setting a precedent that every attempt at learning must be achieved under extremely high criterias. This just HAS to be stressful. Cameron, if you see this, I'm glad you're taking a breather. Take all the time you need. I've learned so much from you already. Be kind to yourself.

I'm currently trying to do the same in spanish, and can confirm it's really intence. I'm getting some success, but yet I go really slow, much slower than he does (did), it's really frustrating.

Great to see the evolution of the process. It will be interesting to see hour much time it takes you to learn a language that is completely different from Spanish or French, like Russian or something. Would you say that the total number of hours you put in to each language matches the amount of hours that it is estimated for an English speaker to learn the language?

Hi! New subscriber here. I really admire you for your commitment learning my native language, your doing an amazing job! I would like to try your method to polish my Turkish, I was wondering about those extra words you added to the vocab of the video...maybe I'm asking for too much but could you tell us which one you learned? I have a vague idea but I'm not very sure about the ones you chose to learn. Thank you in advance! 😊

Yes your method is correct. We learn traditional arabic book through memorizing sentences and repeat it 5-10 times a day. Fortunately we didn't practice much as for your suggestion OUTPUT. We understand what other people are saying but we stutter as when we replying to them

I CHALLENGE YOU TO LEARN SWEDISH NEXT! While Swedish is considered one of the closest languages to English and is considered easy to learn by some, it is also considered difficult to learn by some because of the low amount of resources available in comparison to other languages. Interested to see if you can pull it off.

I want to move to Sweden and decided to try to learn the language. I agree, there are no really structured courses for Swedish. It’s been very difficult learning and I’ve heard 80% of Sweden speaks English so I just gave up unfortunately. Also the Sj sound kills me 😭

@@JoeChok don't give up! Just find the 1,000 most common words in Swedish and learn 5 to 10 a day! Then once you've memorized them start watching shows in Swedish. Once you've done all that for a year or a bit more you'll be ready to move to Sweden and speak. Or make some Swedish friends on discord to game with :)
