This is extremely real folks. I’m 32 years old right now. I was a jock in High School but me and my buddies were drinking and blacking out when we were 15-18 years old. Somehow I was able to make it through college while living in downtown Chicago. I got into Investment Banking and had a full blown meltdown when I was 27 that lasted an entire year. I had to go to rehab. It took me 3 years just to get my life back. I went from working in Investment Banking to working at Target. It was horrible. I totally quit drinking and am back in Banking and don’t touch alcohol. I just cant. It’s extremely common and most ppl won’t admit they have a problem their entire life. If you think you have a problem or can relate, talk to a doctor, you can kick it but it takes a serious level of courage. I’ve got two years under my belt now if sobriety, and just made my first million dollars two months ago. I went from homelessness to a millionaire all just by quitting booze. It is poison for me and I’m going to have to fight it my entire life. Stay strong to whoever is trying to kick it. It’s just as bad as heroin except it’s an even slower death.

I must be one of the luckiest people on the planet. The history of my life can be captured in the metaphor of a man passing through a wall of flames, strolling, casually, as if to savor the experience. So has my relationship with alcohol been. Omfg it’s scary watching this because a lot of the stuff you say is exactly what I’ve struggled with my entire life. The guilt, the shame, the hangovers that turn into benders. The blackouts. Trying to figure out a system to moderate but never really knowing how many drinks you’ll have once the first one goes down. It’s uncanny and I think you’re really brave for putting this kind of content on yt. I’ve struggled heavily with my alcohol related depression for the past year and my subscribers keep asking me why I’m not uploading as much. I’ve been scared to answer them because I don’t want to admit that I’m not perfect and don’t know it all. After a 45 day break from drinking, I’ve once again failed to keep my commitment and this last weekend I had a terrible bender with bad decisions and atomic hangover included. I made the mistake of trying to moderate again and I’m ready to admit that I can’t do that successfully and that it’s time to give total abstinence another run. I’ve been binge watching videos on this subject all night to try to figure out how to deal with this shit and yours have been the most helpful. Thanks for making them.

@@stephmstill I am definitely considering posting some content related to my alcoholism to create accountability and also to help other people. I’m conflicted though and haven’t decided yet. I’m scared that I’ll fail or embarrass myself or chase away my audience with content they didn’t sign up for. For now I’m just going to focus on racking up my first 30 days again. I downloaded the I am sober app today after telling my family I’m going sober, and will be picking up some literature on alcoholism once I’ve exhausted the low hanging fruit on KZbin. Then after I gain some confidence I’ll rethink it. I’m only on day two rn so the self loathing is still fresh. Thanks again. Maybe I’ll come back and update later.

I’ve been sober five years and girl once you realize you have a problem and accept it you become very powerful. It’s the mind that goes crazy but the longer you stay away from alcohol the more calm and free your mind will be. The reason we turned to alcohol is because we are fearing being ourselves. It’s about allowing your true self to shine through. I believe in you and so proud of you accepting your addiction. Life is amazing now that the cravings have finally been lifted. We don’t have to label ourselves alcoholics forever create a new story for yourself. ❤

16 days sober here ! The crazy thing about your story is that I was sober through most of my 20s (alcohol just wasn't a part of my life since I became a mother at 20 and full time employee/part-time student) it wasnt until my late 20s (27 +) that I developed a problem with binge drinking that escalated to functional alcoholic and finally a covert alcoholic at 34. I think there is shame attached to telling people you love of the problem but for me the biggest reason I dont tell my loved ones that I am on a sober journey is becuase I am afraid of publicizing the journey and then failing at my attempt. I am a very sucessful woman and im afraid to fail in piblic if that makes any sense. I hope to gain the courage to tell someone one day... Anyhow-Thanks for posting! Love and support from Houston!

Thank you for this video. It is very reassuring to know that there are other people out there that get stuck in the same cycle. Blackout, intense anxiety, drink in the morning thinking it will help, end up drunk again, repeat. I have had issues with alcohol since I started drinking in high school but the last 2 years were especially bad. When you described thinking that blacking out was how everyone drank, that was my perspective also for a long time. I’m 99 days sober today and therapy and sobriety have made my life so much better. Congratulations on figuring this out so young, it took me until 31 to really admit I had a problem. This video reaffirms that anyone who thinks their life would be better without alcohol should make the change and quit.

Well done you. Believe me; you caught it early. I am over 40 and have years of bad habits and likely internal physical damage. Day 46 for me 🎉 you are right; there are those who can say no more after one drink. And then there are people who just struggle to moderate. And that ranges from just drinking on consecutive work nights to blackout and who knows what other dangers to other people.

Hi Steph! Thank you for telling us your story. At the end of 2019 me and my family suspected that my 23 year old brother had a drinking problem. He would drink all day everyday. Wake up drunk and fall asleep drunk. He would act very aggressive towards us and even though we tried to tell him he would always defend himself and manipulate us in a certain way, like most alcoholics do. On February 2020 he finally decided to get himself into a rehab facility, we were so happy and proud of him because he finally realized he had a drinking problem. Christmas 2020 was kind of a nightmare because it was his first sober event and it was really hard on him. Luckily he didn't relapse and has been sober ever since February. Almost one year sober. Just for today. Addiction doesn't discriminate. Greetings from Mexico!

I’m 19 right now and I’ve definitely gone through periods where I showed a lot of signs of addiction to alcohol, but then I got a lot better somehow (not perfect, but I made good progress) and I’ve been more interested in the idea of being sober increasingly over the past few months. I still drink occasionally and I’ve binge drank about 3 times in the past 4 months. But my boyfriend right now who I met about 5 months ago is an alcoholic and he really doesn’t want to go sober. It’s pretty severe in his case but I don’t want to give him an ultimatum or somehow try to force him to quit bc I just don’t believe that is going to work. Being with him is actually the reason I stopped using alcohol in a really bad way on my own, because it scared me to see how alcohol has affected his own life and I knew I didn’t want to end up like that. But, I still have addictive traits and if I go out with him and he drinks, it makes me really want to drink too, and I usually do, and then I don’t have as much self control to moderate his drinking or my own. I’ve talked to him about going sober (in reference to myself) and mentioned that it would be difficult for me to do that if he is still drinking at this rate, and he says he will cut back but then he hasn’t cut back really. I actually ended up getting pregnant and then having a miscarriage at 10 weeks, and I only found out I was pregnant at 8 weeks, and the fact that I’d been drinking in the time I was pregnant unknowingly, is horrifying to me. That whole situation really changed the way I see alcohol and I stopped wanting it altogether (I started having aversions to alcohol which helped) but it got me thinking about my health in general and how I do want kids someday and I want them to have the best health they possibly can, and even if I’m not pregnant anymore, I can’t just live like this and keep destroying my body slowly over time. But it’s the same with him. I want him to really cut back on the drugs and alcohol because I knowwww it’s gonna affect both his fertility as well as his literal lifespan. Alcohol is just a really toxic thing in our relationship and I don’t want it to be a part of it anymore and I think I really do have a chance of leading a healthy life, but idk how to do that with him. It makes me doubt the relationship a lot and ughhh it’s just been really difficult.

I'm the same way. I can go a long time without drinking but then when I do, there is no off switch. It's terrible, can't have anything in moderation lol

Wow, we could literally be the same person. I had the same exact college experience. It is really hard to look back to those times, I kind of block them out. So much happier not drinking.

A good decision at such a young age. I am exactly the same, I can not drink for days, months and years… but when I do I can’t stop. I have had so many bad things happen all due to drink. I quit for a year but thought I could control it. Nope. I’ve quit again now.

Congratulations! Warning: I stayed sober for 3 years from age 24-27 planning to never drink again with a joyful heart about it. Please trust me, I most definitely should've stuck with my decision but instead had to learn the hard way... During those three years sober I went to bars a lot and was around alcohol with no problem at all whatsoever without any temptation at all. It is 100% willpower in a way of renewing your mind with positive self talk such as telling yourself things about how grateful you are to be sober, which from my experience always kept me sober. If you are a Christian think about what God says to us about being sober minded and why? What kind of man to do want to marry someday? What example do you want to set for your future children?

I'm so much older than you, but I have so much in common. I have had same problems: binge drinking and anorexia/orthorexia. I have always wanted to control my eating and exercising, but my drinking has been out of control. Sometimes I have eaten less and exercised more because I'm going to drink (calories).
@sinikarvonen45812 ай бұрын
I have had black outs and I'm not proud of those moments. So my problem is the same:: I'm binge drinking. I can be days and weeks sober, but the binge drinking is my problem. My diet is so healthy and I'm sporty and but I drink too much alcohol when i will drink.

Exactly the same here. I still have it now, in my early 40s, but less frequent. I just avoid going out. Except that I never drink in the mornings or to cure a hangover. Except on holidays in my 20s.

So often I see videos of people acting "drunk" and doing outrageous things and saying things which don't align with themselves as a conscious person - to the point where they are unrecognisable, including criminal activity - BUT THEY AREN'T JUST DRUNK, THEY ARE ACTUALLY NOT PROPERLY CONSCIOUS . BLACKOUT drunk doesn't mean "on the ground moaning and passed out" - it means the lights are on and no-one is home. You're moving around and speaking, "consenting" to sex, getting into arguments, crime, dangerous situations, being offensive - and having zero memories about it. Literally NOT BELIEVING what you're told you were like unless it's recorded and played back to you. It's rare, and misunderstood. And the best thing to do is not to partake if this is your experience of what drinking is like.

Your channel are so helpful, really. Thank you so much for that. Im from Brazil and unfortunately I didnt find anyone in the sober lifestyle here. But I think its just a matter of time. Anyways, quit drinking may be hard sometimes in the beggining but is definetely worst to keep drinking and keep destroying your mental health, body, relationships, self esteem etc. There is no even comparison. So proud and genuinely HAPPY to be myself sober every single day and every single moment. Anyway, thank you for being a support for me. 💛

2 years sober and I wouldn’t give it up for anything. I feel alive again and am joyful beyond what I could’ve ever imagined possible. Pretty good deal considering all I had to do was stop drinking. It was that simple.

Agreed. I decided to change when I realized that drinking was the #1 thing in my life that was making me unhappy. It sounds so simple to stop drinking, but it can be so difficult. congrats on 2 years!!

I’m 20 and decided I wanted to be sober and now am 42 days sober, I don’t feel the need to drink at all anymore. I drank a lot but I new i needed a change. But I feel so weird being so young but knowing being sober is best especially since I was such a partier and drinker last year. And I’m still in college and the party scene.
