I'm a sophomore I quit today sadly I will still work on my game I'm gonna try and return my senior year if I grow I'm 5'8". I was tired of being a last seat player behind freshman who weren't even as close as good as me I always give my hardest I remember eleven in middle school we played a team with 6'4" plus and I ran every steal trying to stop them and the ref gave me props but was never appreciated by anyone else

@@thunderking8925 well tbh I haven't been playing as much as I like. I still play tho. I go to a park that usually has a lot of older good players and I run w them. There's a few college players. 1 of them that I play w say if I keep playing and trying i can be good. I'm a junior rn and next year I plan on trying out again for my school's team, I don't do aau or any outside basketball besides the park.

5:24 I can definitely relate bro...And these type of coaches in high school had some high level favoritism...Never in my life had I tried out for a team and didn't make it only to found out that the list was made a week before tryouts...I then had to play someone on the team in a 1v1 just to get their spot like wtf Then I only played half the games out of 15...and those games I only got 1-3 mins bro...This was all senior year as well (2 years ago), then he starts me on senior night which was last game before playoffs apparently and I didn't get score much, but i had 12 points, 3 rebs, 1 assist lmaooo, 2 steals, 1 block, vs what some of the other guards couldnt produce
@PyroInferno1104 жыл бұрын
@Ivory777 not at that time, i was actually than most of the people on the bench, my point is, i only got 1-3 minutes, i wouldnt be complaining if i was coming off the bench with some valuable minutes, but no i only i get 1-3 mins per game...and when i got in, we won the game, the games i didn't get in, we lost
@PyroInferno1104 жыл бұрын
@Ivory777 are you sure? I usually come in gettin steals right off the back, then if i make one mistake, i get subbed out, when one of my teammates or the starters in this case, they don't get subbed out they stay in
@PyroInferno1103 жыл бұрын
@Steve how do you get into those anyway? I’m not really interested in basketball anymore at this point. I major in animation, I play fighting games, and do twitch streaming. Basically I don’t even hoop like that no more. When I got into college, I started slacking so that’s on me. And plus I transferred to a D1 college without the knowledge of how to get on the team. I see no tryouts or anything

I had the same problem playing for the Basketball team in my own HOMETOWN in a club where my parents have signed me up since i was born bc my mom was a ball player there earlier. During my ball time I was passionate, tried to improve every practice and listened to as much advice as i could from the coaches. The 'Luxury Problem' we had was that we always had good trades coming in from outside that we're given guaranteed minutes via contract. So since i didn't even ask for money playing for my homecity I was stuck all my 4-5 years sitting on the bench in the "1. Regionalliga (3rd highest League in Germany just before 1. & 2. Bundesliga) just because other players where promised minutes before me (since they had to be paid and thus had to be put in the game). Since I sacrificied everything in my 20s for my club i was cool by letting other people have my minutes (eventhou some of them we're clearly not as good as me) and i let other coaches run their mouth over me since i was mostly the one who didn't talk back. So i become 25 and i started becoming sick of this shit bc foreign players start to not attend practice anymore, talked shit all the time and some of them even behaved rude af with younger local players and still got plenty of minutes. I was the only local player left in the 1. Team at that time. So i stepped down to join the 2nd Man's Team who were playing in the "Bayernliga" (= bavarian league; two leagues below the Regionalliga). But when the season popped off my spirits were already crushed mentally and the new coach had no interest in building me up so I was benched another season and left alone with my thoughts trying to keep a smile as good as i could. But in the end I suffered a mature depression at 26 when my longtime gf dumped me after 4 years while I had to punch out 50-60 hours of work every week and still had to attend training and everything else. So i quit... in the gym... with tears running down as i lost the biggest game in my life... I saw you had a skateboard in the trunk of the video when you mentioned that you started it whilst you just wanted to get your mind off from basketball. Which is funny bc my highschool teacher in my 7th grade taught me how skate but back then I was always wayyyyyy more focused on basketball. Now im 30, I still give basketball lesson for kids under 12 for the last 2 years now but also found my joy in skating again and have given skate lessons for people in disadvantaged neighborhoods for the last 3 years. It might've been a coincidence that i've found your video but ultimately i think it's time for me to move on completely from basketball and all sorts of club affiliation. This is just so hard for me since my mum signed me up for our basketball club when I was 0 years old and since i also had some good coaches growing up really try to push my capabilites. But I can tell there is just a big difference between skating and basketball. While Basketball has a lot of constrictions, rules, officials, teammates and the list goes on... which you need to play and also you could be happy one game and then you are sad/mad af bc you 'lost' an 'important' game. Skateboarding on the other hand teaches you to get out there, overcome your OWN fears and create your OWN life completely dissattached from anything but your OWN will and freedom. And also you don't have those highs & lows bc technically you don't have a clear winner and loser at the end of the day. I always hated the concept of losing in basketball just bc you didn't have as much points as the oposing team. I think this is the biggest comment i ever left on a video. You really touched a nerve of mine which probably will never heal. But i am happy i learned so much through that experience and start to come to terms with it. Greetings from Germany and God bless! #staytruetoself

Bro I’ve been playing basketball since I was 11 so started late but every year I would improve on some skill. I never made it in middle school. I got to high school the one thing that messed me up on my part was moving around a lot if I just started at one place or just moved one time and stay there I would’ve been good but unfortunately I didn’t. I moved back to my first high school I first went to during my junior year I got injured-playing a pickup but I still tired out didn’t make it. My senior year (2019-20) I tired out I almost made it but the coach cut all the seniors except one senior and the rest were freshman,sophomores and a few juniors. Now I’m at Morehouse College freshman and I’m still going... politics and moving a lot have ruined my high school career but I’m still going

I was so good as a kid...they had to play but they played me so grossly out of position it wasn't funny...and then i excelled at that. I played but I was miserable because we weren't playing our best players. The best player on team didn't even get a scholarship. Our coaches was fucking over lots of people. My coach when his daughters came to our high school he became the girls golf coach to make sure they didnt get treated how people treated other people kids.

I’m a sophomore and have just now decided to quit. I’m still gonna play and get better but my time on the team is over. The main reason I decided to quit is because all my other teammates, are trash-holes to me. They always belittled me and made fun of me every time I miss a shot. I’m good at the game and can play well but my confidence has just been shut down and my anxiety sky rockets every time I walk into practice cause I know I’m gonna have to deal with them and have no fun playing. I honestly loved my coach and the practice really helped me but the fact that I’m gonna have to deal with all of them when we travel and how it looks like I’m not gonna get much playing time just frustrates me. I’m really good in defense and can get steals and I can play a really good SG or SF and can do all the plays the coach gives us. But I guess it’s the fact that I’m only 5’7 that makes me overlooked. We haven’t had our first game this season yet but I decided I would rather do GED and try and get a car, than spend this season getting my confidence obliterated. EDIT: I didn't actually leave when I posted this comment because my coach said I should at least play these next 2 JV games and see how it goes. I ended up staying my first game was alright and my second game was really good. I scored a really good amount of points, got a lot of steals, and 2 blocks. I decided to stay a couple more weeks and wanted to play in our next 2 away games. I thought I would get some playing time in varsity since I did really well the last game and was trying really hard in practice, but when the games came I never got put in once, it was miserable. The practices were not much better, the excitement from my performance wore off and I was brought back down to earth. The 2 weeks of practice were terrible, I was constantly being made fun of and pushed around by the 2 captains. When Christmas break started I had a lot of time to think, I started looking back at the group and I realized something. Since my school is really small (under 300 kids in the middle and high school) there was one guy in the school that everybody worshiped, they put him on a pedestal and take everything he does as gold. He ruled over everybody in the school even the principle, and it didn't help that his mom is deeply involved with the school and one of the basketball coaches. And if anyone displeased him, he would turn the whole school on you. While I was thinking this I found out he cornered friend of mine a girl, and started yelling at here and cussing at her because he thought she dissed his mom when that just wasn't true. and the principle gaslighted her and told that is not what happened and he doesn't have to apologize. So I looked at this and just said screw this if the teachers and coaches can't take care of this crap I'm not gonna be apart of it. so I left right before the first practice started.

Am going through same thing your going too am freshman and it’s first time trying out I made the team but the coach really like me. Like a couple of days ago in practice I was hitting every shot in the shot around but my coach still chose someone else over Who I am better than. But my coach is tick rider he refuse to play me and now everybody thinks am ass Like literally going to practice gives me anxiety imagin real games

I played a season and a half of high school basketball in my freshman and sophomore year and I played as Power Forward and half way threw my sophomore season my parents asked me if I liked playing Basketball I said no and then they told me go to practice tomorrow then after practice give my uniform to the coaches and tell them I quit and I did all of that , they got upset at me but I never looked back again and never saw the coaches ever again, I’m still proud of that

Been working for so long bro, this whole off season i’ve been putting in countless hours of work. Playing super good i’m pick ups and Tournaments. I just had my first game and i turned the ball over so much and looks like i didn’t get better at all in a full year, it’s honestly so disappointing. Don’t know what to do man, it doesn’t make sense why i’m doing so bad rn after all that work, none of it translated to game and look clueless and scared out there, no ball control at all 😢

Hey man we all been there before... Work out buts off and than upset we didnt preform to our level of expectations.. Remember this though you can never judge your game off one bad game. I’m thinking about “quitting” basketball at my school bc I no longer enjoy playing it with the people on the team. They are so rude and disrespectful to me and everyone and it’s no fun. I hate going to practice and hate playing the games bc they’re there. I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to quit but I also don’t want to have to go through 2 more years of pain bc of them. I was so depressed last season bc of everything that happened. Any advice on what to do would help. Thanks.

Coming up on my senior year here, but I feel for you man, this is what I exactly felt last season. I'd try to look for any AAU teams in the area, and maybe give them a shot (given that you can afford it). Be on the lookout though, because there are biased (could be slight or extreme) coaches who give only a few people a sizeable amount of minutes.
