After 23 years of teaching in the elementary grades, I think it is time to call it quits. Way to many changes since I first began, and unfortunately not for the better.

It’s such a privilege being a teacher in Switzerland (or even Germany). Our teacher salary is so high that it’s very easy to only work part time and still be able to make enough money to make a good living. :) plus the kids are very well behaved and the schools have awesome equipment etc. Teacher paradise if you ask me!

The right demographics is crucial to having a good teaching environment. On that score it would be very difficult to find a better environment than Switzerland.

Some of my friends in Austria have told me that a high school education in Europe is as good as a college education in the US. Do you think this is true?

Kayse, you have always been so inspirational to me. I posted previously that I quit teaching when my contract finished in June after 11 years to be with my boys (ages 22 mos and 3 years). I am teaching fitness at night still 7 months post teaching and it is like I’m seeing the world in a whole different way because I’m actually getting to have a life again. I took my boys to the zoo today in the 68 degree weather and I was like I wouldn’t be able to do this if I had my classroom. Remember that you are always a teacher-don’t ever let anyone question that-some people have that gift and it just translates to all aspects of life. I don’t have a classroom anymore either, but I do have an open space in a gym ;) and you have an office ;) I wish you well on your new journey, U.G.G-you go girl!!!

Quitting and retiring are two different things. Its also very different if you're a married teacher compared to being a single teacher.

LOL So glad I came across your channel! I'm a teacher as well (16th year) so I COMPLETELY understand why you're so excited about actually having the TIME to do other things... I so get it!!! Love your enthusiasm and can't wait to go along on your journey with you. I'll be starting my own leaving-the-classroom journey within the next year or two, so you're breaking ground and showing others of us who want to move into the next phase of our teacher walk how things can go. Thanks for being brave and stepping out on faith. Love it!!!

Not offended by swearing at all. In my house we swear in three languages- English, Chinese and my husband's local dialect. You should hear my hubby when he drives! No idea where he learned all those bad words in English....... Whoops. Anyway, I'm very seriously considering moving away from teaching this year. I've been thinking of becoming a TpT seller. I know I have a great idea... I've just been putting off starting.

I am a sahm of 5 kids after teaching special Ed at s private school for 11 years. I really have no idea what I will be doing with teaching when all my kids are in school. I feel so out of touch with education at the moment other than I am a parent of elementary age kids, and special Ed wise I have a son in kindergarten who is currently going through testing. I am now on the other end. I wish I knew what to do next. BTW at the time I left my last job I was burnt out, and had a bad taste in my mouth over my experience. I will definitely keep listening.

I have been teaching since I was 21 and I am 52 with two grown up sons. I love my job and still do but it is literally killing me now. Why, because students IQ is lower now than when I first started teaching, which increases the workload. Students are more entilted now and are being treated like consumers. Teachers are second class citizens. Your priority is not others peoples kids but your own. Give your job up, cut your cloth to suit your needs and have a happy, stable family married life. No one says on their death bed "They wished they worked harder"". Good luck and a happy peaceful life

Jillian Mitchell I’m a first year teacher with a sped endorsement as well! The best advice I can give is just go in and be completely open to advice and help from veteran teachers. I was so hard on myself the first few months because I didn’t know EVERYTHING other teachers knew but I wasn’t SUPPOSED to know because I’m new! Relax and ride the crazy wave that is your first year!

Jillian Mitchell. make sure you know terms and procedures associated with sped. for example : manifestation and how you get to that step; making and implementing a BIP; what are the steps for a child to be referred to sped; triennial meetings and your responsibilities during these meetings; educational reports and how to properly fill them out. make sure you document your student's progress on their iep goals. grab a folder and put everything they do relating to their goals in that folder. start working on the student's iep 3-4 weeks before it's due and schedule the meeting with parents/guardians around the same time. you want as much time as possible to prepare it properly and allow for scheduling conflicts. if you've never conducted or been in a sped meeting, ask a sped teacher or the director of sped services to SHOW you, not tell you how it's done. have them show you how to schedule the meeting and inviting all the people that need to be there. if you have to find coverage for the gen ed teacher, have them show you how to go about it. my apologies for droning on but i just want to make sure you're informed. it really stinks having to figure things out on your own when you're the newbie. all the best!
