I am the same nowadays man. I just wanted a game that was just somewhat cheap and fun and Premium Vanguard kinda fits the bill for me right now. We just have banned the overtrigger in our locals 'cause no one cares. Non of us have the time anyways to be super competitive or try to get to worlds or BCS or any of that stuff so we just been having fun with our silly decks. I actually build Blau recently a super fun deck and surprisingly consistent I love it. We are about 15 people and everyone comes with something unique, a guy actually came with Genesis Regalia and he got second place. We have another dude that came with Claret Sword Revolt and the dude actually came in 4th. Prem has such diversity and so many choices for decks its hands down the best format.

I too stopped playing, but am rturning with G-format. Tbh, i hate the new standard simply because the format is hypocritical right now.. You have 6 nations, but each nation has like 500 new "clans" in form of the ridelines, and the deckbuilding generic cards are all RRRs. Meaning that most of the times, your deck consists on a common that is highly specific and will not play outside that specific deck. So, if you say something like: "I'm gonna think outside the box and look at my bulk for something wacky", in Premium or V you could find some thrashy commons that say CB1 gain 5k. Shitty? Yes, but you could place it in any deck of that clan and still be functional. In standard, most common cards says: If you have 2 crits in your bind zone/ if you have a vanguard with Baromagnes/if you soul blasted 4 card at the same time CB1 gain 5k. Shitty? Yes. But this time it is beyond shitty, simply because they can't be used in decks outside Almajestar/ Baromagnes/ Drajeweled decks, unless you want a fancy vanilla. And it is not because you are playing the card wrong, it is simply because that card can only function in only one deck. When they did the 5-color thing ( + bermuda pink), it reminded me of... well... mtg where there are really few cards that has a deep interaction between specific cards, while most of the cards have generic effects that can be put in many strategies. When Keita Mori said that cards would be more generic, i liked a lot, and for sets 1- 3 the promise was there. All generic cards were accessible, we had budget builds like ShieldFisher, Generic ridelines, like Steve 'n Dick from Bruce's rideline, A lot of cards that had like a specific effect only on V, but on R were just like CB1- SC2, or Put this into soul, give 5k to someone... while the RR and RRR stuff were direct support from decks, like D-BT01 Alden. Meaning that if you wanna build Hexaorb, you didn't need to buy the heavy stuff for Bastion, making your deck easier to build. But from set 4 ownards... well, well... guess we'll be "swirling" all down huh... consistency pieces started to gain more Rs in their rarities, while specific stuff became more common, and during this shift we got even another issue. An old issue that came back for the 55th time, 50-dollar PROMOs. After that came the Energy generator, that could only be obtained by build a badly designed product. And to me, that is awful, simply because even if 'I'm in Japan for the next 3 months right, i currently live in Brazil, and there is litrally no official tournaments there anymore ( another discussion) because of how mistreated the players were since 2013. Also, it is too hard to find sealed products outside of importing from Ebay or few other stores. And importing products is too expensive if you don't make a big buy that candilute the taxes and fees. So imagine a player that has no LGS near, but wants to play the game by remote fights, can they play it without importing not only the cards, but also a bad product that won't grant a thing for them other than 1 random trigger + 1 random PG/Elementaria, 4 grade 3s and the Energy generator? All for 10+ USD + the exchange fees + importation taxes+ shipping fees? And for premium, I have no words to talk about other than using Michael Jackson to describe how i feel for Bushiroad when i try to dive into premium: " All i have to say is that they don't really care about us "

I’m mean you can pull a Jesse kotton but for vanguard and start doing side quests like competing with vanillas or using scaredick otk, trying to use v reiji, trying to use limit break cards or legion mechanics. That’s what I’ve been doing with my friends because honestly vanguard is more fun when you try to do fun stuff instead of competitive stuff. For the longest time if I wanted to hear a vanguard KZbinr talk about premium you were always the guy. For the last couple of months though when you were gone I had to resort to wcc and Jaime but glad you returned.

Bro. That's me with vanguard and I played YGO way longer, quit and kinda dipping into other games too. I also hate OT and the price wall issue for newbies, but the good for me far outweighs the bad. I like the gameplay loop, always having a deck in my nation to look forward to playing and upgrading, and being with the homies, each of us hooking ach other up with our own pulls each set. It's fun. I don't care or have the time to be a super sweat in card games either so it's perfect. Just try your best andhave fun with your favorite decks.

Glad to see you're returning to Vanguard! I feel like card games in general will always come with annoying RNG elements like OTs and Handtraps. Which is why I've stuck with Vanguard for as long as I have because I love the core mechanics and game flow more so than what other games offer. I do feel like the game would be significantly improved if OTs were simply removed altogether, but I still enjoy Vanguard enough at a base level to keep playing.

I genuinely relate honestly. I wanted to try and keep going with VG but honestly. Everytime I tried to tell myself to keep myself with the game. But I just couldn't care and got really disenfranchised with the game. The OT was a thing but thats not my primary concern. The primary market and the understanding about how if you don't play locals, the tournament promos are just awkward to obtain. The constant need to rinse and rotate for almost no real reason. Which is why I think playing Shadowverse has been a huge shift in my mental state. Which I think is why I'm fine with rotating out of VG and just playing SVE. Even though I only have 1 person to play against locally. But I think I can't just leave myself out of VG as a game. Which is why i'll probably get Dear Days 2.

Even with having Tabletop Simulator (TTS) to play card games with other people (it's been a long while since I last did that), I guess being socially isolated IRL since 2020 gradually has been wearing on my enthusiasm with the game and the anime series and being stressed-out on trying to keep. I did get excited with Coral appearing as Encounter cards, but I hope I can get around to trying it out on TTS and eventually IRL.

I think a lot of vanguard players deal with popularity bias as well. Some think just because the game isn’t as popular as the big three that it means their game isn’t good or can be fun. Sometimes you just gotta stop and smell the roses.

Premium has been managed well for me..sometimes. I'm taking a break from Harri/Doll and tried on Jewel Knights until recently, I ask an Alden player if I should keep go Rezael or Alden with Jewel Knights, on which he recommend the latter. So I playtested it Alden/Jewel Knights feel overpowered. That's my week.

I feel you on the Yugioh side of things, the cards that are being designed kinda just suck power creep wise. When you're trying to play a fun deck, but want it to be competitive and your opponent drops a easy win button card you do get this thought of this sucks. I don't really feel that with Vanguard besides the OT which sucks, but there are definitely times it's not an auto win and you can play through it.

Honestly I personally liked V❤ well more I liked the cards and different mechanics then everything else. Overdress is a mixed bag for me. More so because of the addition of the over trigger😂 especially in a best of one format 😓😈💣 Sure the over trigger is a unique and interesting mechanic, however I still don’t really like having it in the game. I’m still waiting for my jewel knights to come to standard 😩 their still my favorite deck archetype next to bangdream, and angel feathers Currently I’m trying grand Archive and playing vanguard on the side ( as I sadly don’t have any English decks)

Sounds like someone remembered that a game is supposed to be fun and not take it too seriously. Vanguard is a great game for that because, while rng is a big part of the mechanics, the mechanics allow for more gameplay to happen. Yugioh's mechanics rely so much on the first (no mulligan allowed) hand that whiffing the opening screws over the whole game (because your opponent will likely have answers or outright end the game on that next turn). Vanguard at least gives you a bit of time to play a couple turns before smacking with huge multi crit multi swings (which a good player would be able to recognize and prepare for during those earlier turns).

Vanguard doesn't worth the time, especially if you live outside the Japanese version scope. The game is good, until it goes power creep 'til no tomorrow. And them, when the game is finally balanced and good again, they simply push the buttom and flush all cards into the toilet seat named premium ( figurative, not that premium is bad, but it feels like they simply throw everything away into premium and create a new standard) and that's it. The company AGAIN is making english sets too fast. It is indeed making the very same mistake Wizards of th coast did with the recent Bloomburrow/Duskmoor collections. So, BSR is trying to milk nostalgia bait out of dzbt06 and SIX WEEKS LATER comes dz07. Guess my LGS won't buy at least one of them. It just feels like BT16 and bt17 eng ver. all over again. And tbf, the Energy shit made me quit this game for good. Because a company pushing a bad product for competitive players to simply PLAY the game, to me, was the last straw.

Really funny, I have almost this exact experience except I quit Yu-Gi-Oh, then I didn't, then I did (for 11 months now). Now I'm playing Vanguard and VGC, but casually. Fun times and I'm not tossing too much time into it. Keep doing what you do and enjoy it !

At least in Vanguard you get to play a few turns. In Yugioh, you either win or lose by turn 2, and its mostly about who has the best starting hand (combo pieces, handtraps, etc.) I hope we can get more sweet Vanguard content in the future🙏
