Watching a year later, the ZVE-10 just seems like it has amazing QOL for its value if you want to stream and vlog primarily. I can’t believe other cameras don’t have USB-C ports by now… All that being said, I did end up buying the A6600 while it’s 30% off at $999. I upgraded from an A6000 and I’m extremely satisfied with my purchase so far as it does more than I need for my personal use case. Any opinions on the new A6700?

Yeah, the ZV-E10 punches well above its weight class! Fast forward, still one of the best decisions as a creator to get the most bang for my buck! The a6700 is hands down the best APS-C camera Sony has made and is the best of a lot of worlds for creators lol

Thanks so much Diana for this review! Phew, I must have watched like close to 30 reviews on the sony lineup, and just got so overwhelmed jumping between the a7c/a7III, a6400/a6600, or the ZVE10, and you just helped me to decide. For its fantastic price point, and all the amazing features, I'm definitely going for the ZVE-10 as my main youtube and podcasting camera setup. I really appreciate you taking the time to do this video, and honestly, your personal opinon about how it's been so useful to your current setup, really helps to give the behind the scenes, that not many reviewers think to show.

The screen on the a6600 doesn't bother me, but the ZV-E10 battery does bother me. I have avoided getting certain cameras (Fuji XS10) and have sold cameras that have crummy battery life. Plus the grip on the a6600 is more substantial. Thanks for the review but I'm happy to stick with my A6600.

I started with the ZV1 and ZV-E10, so I’m used to the button and haven’t had any issues with it. The ZV-E10 has a knob on it that I rarely use and it only makes things more complicated. If Sony does all of the things you mention here, then the next generation camera will be awesome.

yeah, supposedly a6600 is their apsc flagship, and seemingly theyre not much interested in starting a new line of apsc and a new sensor. in these conditions, its kinda ridiculous to not at least update the firmware in a6600 - bring in the new colors, the new af, the new menu, complete touch capabilities etc. make it up do date, if youre not intending to release a proper new apsc with a new sensor.. and make it a paid upgrade, if its a problem

Yeah, it's a bummer for sure. That's why while I love the ZV-E10 and it's ease of use, I can see the A7C Mark 2 whenever it arrives to be the natural upgrade path for a lot of APS-C users. A6600 all the way! This new model with the tiny battery, no in body image stabilization is a downgrade I would never consider. A fun toy IF you just get into the game, but if you already have the A6600, then forget about it! Oh, and I also need the battery grip on the A6600 for shooting vertical in parades, as well as the dummy battery AC adaptor for studio work, so my setup is complete for the A6600. No, it's not perfect, but I love it still! 😉
@DianaGladney Жыл бұрын
Let’s be honest, the IBIS sucks on the a6600 lol So, the smaller battery isn’t a major loss and both “toys” have the same sensor and same ports. So, you’re shopping at the same toy shop, same aisle, different box lol but to each their own.
@stevestruthers6180 Жыл бұрын
@@DianaGladney I have an a6600 and have to agree that the IBIS is just meh. About eight years ago, I owned a Sony a6000 with the kit 16-50 OSS (Optical Steady Shot) lens and had no difficulty shooting stable, more or less jitter or shake-free video. I've been thinking about whether to get Canon's new EOS R7 because it has some features the a6600 lacks. However, there are many videos on KZbin that show that in addition to the limited and mediocre RF-S lens line up, the camera has significant flaws. The bottom line is the R7 seems to be a better stills than video camera. So, with this in mind, I'm going to wait for Sony to drop its long-rumoured a6700/a7000 camera this spring that is supposed to be either a replacement for, or update of the a6600.

Great vid! I just bought the ZV-E10 and the 6600 wasn't even on the comparison list. Initially was looking for Canon options, but Canon cutting off 3rd party lenses support took them off the list. Seems like the ZV-E10 is the best bang for the buck right now. For a real step up, it appears that you need to be north of $2,000.

Yeah, unfortunately that's the case with Canon, and it's a real shame for their users considering they finally got some neat APS-C cameras. The a6600 was supposed to have been the top of the line for APS-C but a larger battery and IBIS isn't cutting it compared to most newer APS-C camera specs on the market. I do this the best bang for buck camera in the price range is the ZV-E10, and you're right, you would need to be north of $2k before you start seeing some significant improvement's camera specs wise. I love the ZV-E10 but while the setup wouldn't be bad, it's not ideal. The Standard digital stabilization doesn't work with lenses that have no stabilization; i.e. either of the lenses you listed. If you're traveling and want similar features, the Sony ZV-1 would honestly be better. If you prefer something where you want to swap lenses, you'd want to consider other camera options or a different lens. When I'm traveling with my ZV-E10 the Sony 10-18mm f4 lens stays on the camera while I'm on the go, or I have the Sony ZV-1 when I want the lens range with no swapping necessary. The performance and look are identical, but it ultimately depends on your needs. Only you will be able to decide if it's worth picking up or not because I still stand by what I said in the video from my experience. However, there are those that deciding between the two would take the a6600 hands down. Me, on the other hand, I'd take 2 ZV-E10's any day because of the same reasons I cited in the video. I'd suggest consider how you plan to use your camera, why you want it, and if nothing else, rent the a6600 and see how you feel with the camera in your hands. Not unless you have plenty of space to make sure you can fit in the frame. The 50mm lens isn’t ideal for small spaces if you’re planning on a simple headshot. If you have your kit lens, set it up and put it at 50mm and you’ll see how much space you’ll need. I'm not a huge proponent of waiting until a new camera releases unless we have undeniable proof it's releasing with leaked images, manuals, etc. Otherwise, it's an endless waiting game because brands change their minds on stuff all the time. Plus, it further delays you getting something that can help you today. That's how it was when I got my Sony a6400 camera. Soon after the a6600 released and then the ZV-1 and ZV-E10. @DianaGladney8 ай бұрын
If you're on a fairly sized boat, you should be fine. But no camera is completely exempt from water damage, so be careful even if it has a weather resistant body. I have different thoughts and suggestions if you'd be vlogging vs if you're shooting for b-roll or something. Honestly, this is where action cams like a Go Pro comes in handy and that'd be my go-to for much of whatever's recorded if on a smaller boat and it's going to be a bumpier ride. Plus, no stress of killing my camera and lens if they fall into the water, even with a wrist strap or something to secure it. Happens quite frequently. If on a shoot or something, get a gimbal. The cameras performance, image wise, will be the same as the specs, sensor and tech inside the cameras are the same. However, having access to the Catalyst Browse for the best stabe ever, is only available on the ZV-E10. The stabe in the a6600 isn't at the level for video you'd think while in motion. It's more of a benefit for photos than it'd be for video, even with a stabilized lens. Want to go handheld, that's still the ZV-E10 because you'd get access to Sony Catalyst Browse. With the a6600, you're stuck with whatever straight out of camera and working to stabilize in whatever editing tool to smooth it out as best you can. Either can work and the look out the camera will be the same, it's more just the usability and experience of what you shoot, how you shoot, and what you'll need to do in post to get the result you want. And if you don't want to drop the coins on an action camera or Osmo Pocket style camera, get a smartphone gimbal and film in 4k 60p using the rear cameras of your smartphone and still get the shot. Like I said, unless you're on a rather large boat, beware dropping your camera in the drink. Especially if you're in a canoe style boat or something small where you could be flipped over.

@@DianaGladney Wow! I’ve been stressed trying to make the right decision. You just provided more information for my situation than any video I could find. Thank you! So, Id be on fair sized boat. Not a dinghy but also not a charter boat. I have a go pro already and that thing is awesome for putting on the bow or motor to get some pretty cool shots! What I’m looking for is a camera I can hold and record my partner while they explain what we’re doing, using, and where we’re going. Or I could set up and record us both. So about half head talk. The other half is going to be reeling in the fish and close ups on the gear (hooks, lures etc) and the fish. I’m new to all this stuff so I could be wrong but I’ve heard that a wide lens would be good for a setting like a boat because it makes it look like there’s more space? I am open to spending more $ but from what I’ve seen the ZV-E10 seems so much better than cameras in the a6600’s price range. Any other camera/lens suggestions would be great! Definitely going to look into getting a catalyst as well! You’ve been a lot of help!
@DianaGladney7 ай бұрын
You're very welcome! I try to get around to answering as many comments from the community as I can because I understand how stressful that can be trying to figure all that stuff out. So, here's the reality of the situation you're in and preparing to deal with some of those issues. Just so you have an honest and accurate detail of the facts, in addition to what I've already shared. 1) Both cameras, in 4k, have bad jello effects as you're moving the camera around, or subjects moving across the screen. I'm sharing this because what you'll notice is a jello type effect from the sensor readout speeds (on both cameras) is going to impact the stabilization. So, if the boat is rocking and you're trying to be still, wether you've activated stabilization or not, it's something in editing that'll need to be adjusted. It's not always a deal breaker for everyone, but be aware it's a thing. You can definitely still get clean, great looking shots but if you turn stabe off to use Sony Catalyst Browse later to have really good stabilization, you don't freak out when you see your raw footage. 2) A wide lens is a good option to go with because you will be able to see more of what's happening, a wider perspective of your surroundings. If you want a closer shot, the good thing is both cameras have what's called Clear Image Zoom. So, you can zoom in as much as you want on the lens, then zoom in a bit more using the clean Clear Image Zoom effect. I'm sharing this with you, because this common feature on Sony cameras helps so you don't feel locked in regardless of the type of lens you use. That way you can still have a bit more range if you need to punch in. At the end of the day though, you just wont know how well something will or will not work for you until you get your hands on it lol With where things are in the camera space, I would honestly suggest going up the line a bit more over both the ZV-E10 and the a6600 and just get the Sony a6700. All the issues and concerns between those two cameras are fixed with the a6700. No rolling shutter (aka the jello effect), great digital stabilization and it has IBIS in the camera, bigger battery like on the a6600, better grip, and a crap ton more features. It's one of those things where you can buy it right or buy it twice. Yes, it costs a bit more but it'd be worth it to invest up and hurdle over any limitations between the a6600 and the ZV-E10. That'd be my advice based on what you've shared.

@DianaGladney2 жыл бұрын
Nice try, but it doesn't work like that lol. An 11mm and 35mm focal lengths are only complete opposite sides of the spectrum. One is super wide, the other is more accurate to what the eye see's in everyday life. My recommendation for beginners is always the same, the first lens should always be the kit lens. You need to see what focal lengths you default to the most often in the focal range available in the kit lens. Then, from there, choose the top 2 focal ranges you default to for the type of content you plan to create. For me, those top 3 lenses at the moment are my Sigma 16mm f1.4 lens, the Sony 35mm f1.8 lens, and the Sony 10-18mm f4 lens. For the same advice given to the beginner, that's how I identified what 3 lenses work best for me, plus a few extra on hand.

I think it's still a personal preference for each person but to be brutally honest, I've not once said "Oh man, I really miss my a6600." Sure the battery way great but I've been much happier with my ZV-E10. The a6600 is still a great camera but I get far more functionality out the ZV-E10 and 0 quality less because they use the exact same sensor and have the same resolution quality.

I’ve made do without a ZVE10, but wouldn’t mind the functionality. Would you get one now, or wait for an update (since I’ve made do without). What are features you realistically see them improving? The rolling shutter and battery are the main things I can think of, but I don’t see them addressing rolling shutter on a ZVE10-2 because I think that would be too much competition with its full frame family. If they do so, and bump up the price, then the ZVE10-2 wouldn’t seem to make much sense because you then start getting close to full frame pricing, right?
@DianaGladney2 жыл бұрын
Well, I'm not one to wait for a camera unless there are pretty solid rumors, with legit picture or some leaked website url link to the product or manual (trustworthy rumors leaks) that a camera is coming out. Because what it boils down to is making sure with the already existing cameras on the market, I can get my needs met because waiting and hoping a camera comes out can hurt you more than most people realize. If there's a camera out there that can increase your efficiency, get it. You can sell or trade it in later and still get your moneys worth from the camera no matter what the timeframe is you've owned it. I don't see Sony being a brand that cripples the lineup based on existing cameras because it's all money. Plus, they know most creators have need of at least 2 cameras bodies the longer they create to be more efficient. That means getting all kinds of camera types to fit that scenario. So, I can see them making all variations of cameras and APS-C lineup is the only cameras they have that need the biggest update. Now, what will they ACTUALLY upgrade, will really depend on the direction they take the APS-C lineup. If it stays vlogger/avg. content creator centric, I can see some sensor upgrades and by default will fix the rolling shutter because it'll be another sensor they use and reuse over a period of years. The battery will probably stay the same to stay with the same body mold with improvements to the usage like they originally did with the a6300/a6500 vs a6400 updates. So, there will probably be better performance. Either that or they redo the internals of the FW50 battery shell so it's a better battery inside but same shell. I think if they dropped some ZV camera right now, it'll probably be a ZV-1 Mark 2 vs an update to the ZV-E10 because it's too new and Sony doesn't release cameras at the frequency they used to so it's likely going to be some years. The full-frame line-up will always be safe because size and lens cost alone with keep the user base separate. Sony can play with this lineup and actually have a dope vlogging lineup with the ZV cameras and a fantastic cinema, photo and video setup with the various full-frame cameras. If the rumors are true on the FX30, that will be the next best mid-grade camera, hopefully better than the A74 for my needs/wants for a camera.

A7C or ZVE10? Also any concern about only having 8bit?
@DianaGladney2 жыл бұрын
My honest thoughts on both? The A7C is just a full frame a6600 that I’ve used and also didn’t love BUT the A7C Mark 2 should be interesting if it’s hot crippled to death in specs. The body design is my personal preference but the feature set is still low which is why despite trying it several times, I’ve never had the urge to buy it. As far as the 8-bit vs 10-bit, no I don’t have any concerns using 8-bit because people that can’t color grade 8-bit likely can’t color grade at all. So, switching to 10-bit won’t change that. Every couple of years in the camera space one large Creator mentions something that’s a legit concern in their personal creative journey and everyone jumps on the bandwagon complaining about what they didn’t know existed 5-minutes ago. Color grading is a skill you learn over time. Will 10-bit becoming more accessible be great, absolutely. However, it won’t change the fact if one can actually color grade or not. So, no I don’t worry about 8-bit at all.

I use A7C, but that's because my other camera is a A7 IV, so it makes sense to fully share all lenses. I do like the ZV-E10, however, and I think it's an amazing value. You'll save money over time because the lenses are much cheaper and lighter, meaning you need less bag space, you can use a lighter tripod, smaller gimbal, etc. I don't think it's the best for photos, but you can always get an A6100 to supplement it for stills.

Depends if you need Optical Steady Shot (OSS) for what you plan to do or not. There are a lot of great lenses out there for the E mount but if you need stabilization, you're limited to only Sony ones. If not, you have a crap ton of options. I personally would say the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 is great if you don't (this one: amzn.to/3UaN0ac) because it's a constant f2.8 throughout, small and lightweight and sharp. If you do need OSS, it depends on what you plan on doing like vlogging, 10-18mm f4, you want OSS, you're looking at other lenses. There's a video on the channel where I go into lenses for the ZV-E10 if you want to see other suggestions. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6bIg4CForujnM0

Right now im trying to get a cam for filming music videos, vlogging, and promo videos. I heard ZV-10 isnt good for music videos because you cant switch lenses like a6600. IDK if thats true or not but for something to start out with do you think ZV-10 is better for what im trying to do?
@DianaGladney Жыл бұрын
I think whomever you watched may have been mentioning another camera. The Sony ZV-1 has a fixed lens and is a point & shoot video focused camera. The Sony ZV-E10 has the exact same sensor as the Sony a6600 and CAN swap lenses as you can see in this video. If I had to choose between the two, I’d still take the ZV-E10 because Sony Catalyst Browse works 10x better than the stabilization on the a6600; speaking from experience. Plus, you can put the ZV-E10 has the more versatile screen orientation if on your flying it on a gimbal.

Hi Diana, I’m a KZbinr, I post reaction videos, reviews and also vlogs. I’m struggling to decide what to get. I have the Zv-1 it’s good but overheats and only records short lengths of time and a ray of other issues. I was thinking about the a6600 till I saw this video and it back on the zve10 bandwagon. Then I just heard about the a6700. What do you think? Is there a difference in video quality? Or any other major features that should make me spend more and go for the 6700 vs spending less with the zve10?
@arthur72954 ай бұрын
hey, it depends on your needs. If zv e10 is enough for you go with it. But if you can afford a6700 I would 100% go for it, it's just another level (4K/60/120, 10-bit 4:2:2 etc.)

I heard Zve10 is not good for begineer photography it is worse for photograph is it true?
@DianaGladney5 ай бұрын
No, it's not true. The reason why folks would say that is the body design is crafted for video content creation over photos. For example, there are more buttons on a camera like the a6600 for example and it has a larger battery, that's pretty much it. There are zero differences in the sensor quality, low light performance, or anything else for photos between the ZV-E10 and the a6600 for example. Quality wise though, there's zero difference since all the internals are exactly the same. Now, if you're comparing it some other higher end camera made for photography, the answer may be different. But versus the a6600, they're the same camera, different external shell. Literally.

@@DianaGladney … yes, the a7 IV is better in many ways. But if it comes to street photography I prefer to travel lightweight and take the a6600 and the new APSC 15 mm f1.4 G lens or the FF 20 mm f1.8 G lens. Both guarantee great IQ.

what about to fit 2-4 people in frame at once for recording which lens is best? I bought the kit that came with a lens but just want to make sure.
@DianaGladney2 жыл бұрын
Depends on how far the subjects are from the camera and the framing you're going for. A 11-12mm lens if you need a really wide point of view but I've found the Sigma 16mm f1.4 lens still works perfectly fine 9-10 times. Use your kit lens to see how much space you need. If you are at 16mm, and you need to pull the tripod backwards to get more space and it's still not far enough, you need a wider lens. If you find you can zoom out or in to where you need, look at the focal length you're using (the camera screen will tell you when using the kit lens) and get a lens that's at that focal length. To give you some perspective on the difference, check out this video on the Sigma 16mm f1.4 lens: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3a4lIqLgNCBZ6M

All I want is the ZV-E10 but with an EVF. For me this is EXTREMELY annoying to try to compose pictures in direct sunlight, looking at an absolutely crappy lcd screen. My eyes have gotten too used to the sharp led brightness and clarity of phones and this, in a way, steals the photography aspect away from this otherwise awesome camera. I would also like to not disturb anyone else by being able to pull the camera directly up to my eye if I were in a dark setting like a theater play rather than do it exactly how you would have to do it with a phone. I also actually don't mind the lcd swiveling up to the top as I can see myself better and at the lens than the slight eye shift involved in seeing the zv-e10 's screen swiveled out to the side. REALLY wish they came out with an E-20 or some other painful Sony name that is an EVF version of this camera!
