This same reaction happened to my brother. It was explained to us that allergic reactions are rare only 1-3% of patients and what really happened was a fishbane reaction..(shock). The cause was likely the lack of preparation before the infusion and the rate at which they administered the infusion. You need to eat and drink prior to the infusion and then a steroid before the infusion...The procedure took over 2 hrs...1000mg monoferic..Medications Given famotidine injection Last given 9/8/2024 3:16 PM for Iron deficiency anemia iron isomaltoside injection Stopped 9/8/2024 5:32 PM for Iron deficiency anemia methylprednisolone sodium succinate (SOLU-MEDROL) injection Act-O-Vial Last given 9/8/2024 3:16 PM for Iron deficiency anemia

I wish I didn't have an iron infusion for myself about a week ago, because unfortunately I'm still having symptoms from it. Apparently I've looked it up, they gave me too high of a dose of iron all at once. They gave me 1000 mg of iron in the infusion all at once which I heard you're not supposed to have more than 600 mg of it in an infusion. The first symptoms I had after were dizziness, second day nonstop diarrhea, 3rd day I had issues breathing when I woke up from sleep, 4th day heart racing when I bend over and stand back up and when I walk upstairs it's worse than before the infusion. I don't think that this is normal at all. Last time I had an iron infusion they did 2 separate ones and they did it two weeks apart so I'd absorb it slower and not so fast, but this time they did it all at once and that's why I'm still having symptoms right? I've never felt this awful from an iron infusion before and I want to know what to do about it, because I'm still having symptoms a week later and I'm having constant headaches and dizziness still. Last night I felt so bad with my headache that it was hard to see anything around me.

Question: Can this be effective for iron malabsorption following Bariatric surgery? My daughter has a gastric sleeve (no duodenal malabsorption) and has a tendency to have heavy menstrual bleeding. In fact after just receiving an annual iron infusion in January for IDA and depleted ferritin, she had a 3wk period in July (long story, but hasn’t tolerate any oral contraceptives d/t severe HA). As she became quite symptomatic labs revealed Hgb was 7.8 (lowest ever), Fe sat 5% (actual serum Fe @9.9), due to acute blood loss. Awaiting Ins approval for IV iron, GYN started Progesterone 20mg which began taking effect. However 2d later worsening s/s (sob, inability to maintain hydration status). I’m a nurse, took to ER, and was admitted for dropping to Hgb 6.8, K+ was 3.3, albumin 3.2, Fe 12.1. Given 2U PRBC +IV Iron and K+, prophylaxis abx. Scheduled for d&c after discharge. Question 1: Just wondering if this can even be absorbed since lower GI tract is intact. If so, it might at least decrease frequency of needed Fe infusions. Question 2: I had a Roux-en-Y in 2004 (no longer have periods after partial hysterectomy), so my iron infusions last approx 3yrs. Since my duodenum is largely bypassed can I absorb this? Although we may not benefit from this, I appreciate that you’ve shared this info and product for the masses who will. Fascinating to learn and read the overwhelming positive reviews. Thank you in advance for your reply! Lori

If you can take something orally that has far less side effect potential, more consistent results and costs multiplied times less and you never tell anybody, that would be a shame. Would it not?
@meghancoppola8640 Жыл бұрын
@@DrWholeness The "shame" is making blanket statements for all patients that may not fit every patients' needs, leaving some to suffer needlessly. My doctor ignored my severe iron deficiency for many years, brushing it off as "minor" even though my ferritin was in the single digits and I had life-disrupting symptoms. Due to pre-existing issues I would never, no matter how diligent, be able to catch up on iron stores via diet and oral supplements alone. I learned just how severe my deficiency was while desperately trying to figure out why I felt so awful, because my doctor didn't know or care. She refused to consider infusions because, quote, "nobody will give them to you." When I finally saw an internist (ironically referred by my pcp) the first thing she said upon seeing my labs was that my iron deficiency is severe and I should really consider infusions. She sent me to a rapid anemia treatment center the following week. Here's the thing: This is not a purely anecdotal, one off scenario; there are SO MANY people who suffer due to their pcp's ignorance of iron deficiency in the US for some unexplained reason. The rest of the western world seems to be on top of it, but apparently many PCPs in the US brush it off. It's dangerous and has serious consequences to people's lives. So, go ahead, "Dr Wholeness," neglect your patients in order to sell your stuff.

I have patient data for the last 3.5 years but unfortunately (related to research) I am a full-time physician in private practice, so I don't have the bandwidth to prepare long term research. I can say that patients used to hate it when I would recommend them iron (because of all the side effects and lack of results) and now they gladly take it :)

I have hemorrhaged 3 times in the past 8years. Every time I get blood work I’m told I’m within normal limits but my energy is next to nothing and I feel frail. My last hemorrhage was due to a missed miscarriage. I did have a transfusion. My HGB is still only a 11.7. I have a history of stomach ulcers so I’m afraid to do oral iron. What would you suggest? I was really thinking IV iron would help me until watching your video. They think I have Hashimoto’s.

This guy literally sells iron supplements, so it is in his best interest if people buy iron supplements which means he is not an unbiased source of info, girlie! Find a doctor that actually listens to you instead of writing off your symptoms! Harder said than done I know. It helps if you can take a man into the doctor's office because sadly gender comes into play when dealing with many doctors. They don't want to listen to women. KZbin is not the place to get medical information. People are always selling something here.

Why do I feel flu like symptoms after taking oral or IV iron? I get myalgias and fatigue and fever like for weeks. My ferritin is 6. Not anemic.
@kimer83752 жыл бұрын
You need to check phosphate levels and vitamin D. IV iron has a side effect that can lower phosphate and make you feel terrible. Most doctors don’t check this. I asked for this test on my own after research. I wound up in critical condition in the hospital because it lowered my phosphate so much I had to have an infusion of phosphate. It’s nothing to mess around with so definitely request it if you’re feeling that bad

I was told if i didnt id probably end up needing a blood transfusion during or after i gave birth...Do you think i can bring my iron up in time to avoid infusions with this method? I also am an alpha thalassemia carrier and was cautioned taking iron at all needs to be evaluated before starting a regimen... Im confused where to start and feel i need to advocate for other solutions

HCW here, no. You probably cannot. You need to follow *YOUR* MDs instructions. This doctor doesn’t know you or your medical history. Frankly, it’s irresponsible of him to put out this information knowing that every individuals situation is unique. Child birth is already dangerous enough. Follow your MDs instructions. Just because something worked for someone else doesn’t mean it will work for you; you could create a catastrophe, unnecessarily in your life.

I've been researching this bcs my oncologist has ordered iron infusions without even discussing it with me. The hospital called and wanted to schedule them. They ordered injectafer. I seem to get all the worst side effects from all medications so haven't had a good experience with meds in general. Is your iron supplement heme or non-heme? I've started supplementing with a heme iron just this week and no problems with it so far. The non-heme causes too many gut issues for me. I want to find the best solution- either the safest infusion or the best supplement to keep my levels up. My ferritin is 11 hemoglobin 14.3 and iron 77. I'm 64 and post breast cancer surgery 20 months ago. I think coffee and tea is the reason for my nonabsorption. I'm a heavy coffee drinker like morning to night so I'm trying to decrease that especially 2 hrs before and 2 hrs after meals. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello Dr. Matt- I just heard you say that iron infusion has sucrose in it, I had an infusion yesterday it was about 5.00pm and after about two hours my blood glucose level kept on rising so I had to continue to give myself fast acting insulin and increase my long acting as well and whole night I had to get up out of bed and do the same and this morning when I woke up it was way high so it makes sense that I hadn’t eaten any sugar and my carb level was normal where I would always have a normal reading from 85 to 140 readings on my glucose meter but last night it went way above 310 at night to 246 this morning. Your explanation absolutely makes sense. I am diabetic I was taking 65mg iron 3x a day. I will go back to 1/ day now. High glucose levels is scary. Thank you
