Hello everybody! In today's video we're talking about why I stopped wearing color as a minimalist! I love talking about minimalism and I think that being picky about introducing color is a great minimalism tip! But like always I'd love to know what you think! Fashion is self expression and very personal! 🤍 🥐 Subscribe - kzbin.info 🥐 Follow me on Instagram - instagram.com/shesfrench/

So this is a personal anecdote. Like you mentioned, neutrals are very safe and easy to style. And I think that’s why I gravitated to them at a certain point in my life where my mental and physical health was declining. Because of the stress and health issues I was experiencing at the time, black and white clothing became a comfortable safety zone for me to get dressed without adding pressure or chaos on my then fragile sense of self. I had so much going in my life that I couldn’t mentally handle wearing color. But now that mental/physical/emotional health has thankfully improved, I find that shift coincides with my desire to incorporate more color in my wardrobe. Black and white is still my base color palette and the shades that I wear the most of, but my happy medium is injecting a pop of one or two colors in my outfits now. Because I’m still very selective of what colors go into my wardrobe, I find this dynamic doesn’t inhibit my ability to get dressed quickly or mix and match pieces seamlessly.

Hi L🤍 Thank you so much for sharing your personal anecdote I’m so glad that you considered this a safe space to do so🤍 Being able to remove a daily stressor is absolutely huge, I really agree that minimizing in that way really helps to simplify life and allows you to shift your focus and feel strong doing so. I’m so glad that you’re feeling better and improving and I’m so happy to hear that you’re enjoying adding color back! I love how you are going about it. You’re a huge inspiration🤍🤍🤍

I 💯 agree with you! I tend to dress in black with a beige or brown to add a “pop”-I always feel appropriate and chic for whatever I’m getting into. Your videos have me dipping into the minimalist aesthetic-you really show how it doesn’t take many clothes at all to look classic yet cool. Loving your channel! 🎉

I love your monochromatic aesthetic! I’ve been curating my wardrobe and noticed after clearing everything out that I also gravitate towards mainly black with some white, cream, and grey. I thought I would be bored without pops of color, or worse yet that I would be labeled as “boring”, but getting ready is so much easier when everything inherently matches! I also feel so chic and put together 🖤🤍

Hi Lisa!! Yessss I love that so much! I’m so happy for you! Chic and put together is always my goal too! I really feel like not wearing color is the furthest thing from boring because you’re not maxed out on that instant statement, you can do a lot of subtle things that really add up!🤍🤍🤍

I think you look great in black and ivory and I am so interested to see how you curate and style your wardrobe pieces. I also enjoyed seeing photos of the outfits. I am not a minimalist but 50 % of my wardrobe is black and shades of white. Being much older than you I am finding out that too much black near my face makes me feel dead whereas white near my face gives everything life. I am intrigued by people who don't need colour because I go through phases all the time of falling in love with the colour of the moment paired with my neutral wardrobe work horses. My absolute favourites and most worn items invariably end up being colours that look good with my skin tone and hair.

Hi there!! Thank you so much for watching!! It's funny that you commented this because I have been thinking a lot about color and while I still don't wear any, I do have a slight penchant towards navy blue and I have also incorporated some tans, sooo colorful hahaha! Colors of the seasons are so well marketed that we can't help to love them, right now cherry red is such a thing and I do also love it! I still play it really safe but I really encourage trying colors if there are some you love, fashion is self expression after all

I wish I would have found this before I went to a color analysis. My cousin thought that it would be a perfect christmas gift for her sister to go and take part in one. We made a reservation for the five of us. Everyone was satisfied with the results, except for me. I'm not going to go into detail, but I came out (rather pressured into) to be warm spring. It just didn' t suit me and since I'm a (fake) redhead, I felt like a clown in all those colors. She even told me to not wear black. C'mon.!

Hiii I’m so sorry you didn’t have a good experience! I completely agree, wear what you like and what makes you feel good that’s the most important! And I really do think that it’s impossible to do black wrong or not suit black, but then again I might be biased because I love black haha! But we do need a base to jump off from with color and it’s tough to replace black there🤍

I haven’t gone to just black and ivory in my wardrobe, because black doesn’t look good next to my face. I’m loving charcoal grey though. I’m in the middle of building a smaller wardrobe and although I still love color, if I choose any colors they are very muted. I’ve noticed over the years that if I buy anything with bright colors it’s like I disappear and all you see are the clothes.

Hey Sianna! Thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment🤍 I love that you found what works for you, it took me a long time to find that for myself! Charcoal is amazing! It looks really good on my husband! I agree that going the muted route works really well for smaller closets! Bright colors definitely pack a punch haha it’s important to make sure we’re not getting taken over by the clothes lol🤍🤍🤍

@@shesfrench I also have to add that I would love the simplicity of your wardrobe, and wish that I looked good in black. Who knows maybe my wardrobe will evolve into ivory (which I look really good wearing) and charcoal grey, instead of black. It would be so easy to get dressed every day then. No more decision fatigue. 😄🦋☀️

@@Amyavalon1844 I think that’s an amazing idea! It takes a lot of time and a lot of experimenting, I’m also still experimenting myself🤍 I would consider adding some black pieces perhaps even as bags or shoes and like you said perhaps not too close to your face if you don’t find that it flatters you, ultimately you absolutely know yourself best! I kind of do something similar with ivory I prefer it as bottoms or shoes rather than by my face! Having some black is nice for versatility, I love that it’s so life proof (I can trust that’s it’s unlikely that any stain and wear disasters will happen to my black pieces lol)! 🤍🤍🤍

Hi Kim!! Sorry for the late response!! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment and welcome to the channel I’m so happy you’re here!🥹🤍 I’m the same as you I love designer pieces but I’m careful about what I select not only for the sake of my wallet haha but also to make sure that they really are worthwhile and pieces I will love for a long time! And yes I’ve heard about extreme minimalism, I think that my closet could fall into that parameter and I’ve called it that a few times but I actually don’t really keep track of how much I own, just what feels right! I find that it’s healthier to go about it that way, minimalism should benefit you and not feel restrictive (not saying that extreme minimalism isn’t freeing though, I just don’t really label)🤍🤍🤍
