Why I Support A Club You've (PROBABLY) Never Heard Of

My great great grandfather emigrated from Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent in England in the late 1800s. Family legend has it he was a footballer - and his passion and love for the game has been passed down each successive generation in my family.
The American and English sides of our family hadn't been in contact since at least the 1930s.
That changed in 2009 when I found a long lost cousin on an online genealogy forum. A visit, a homecoming of sorts, to Stoke on Trent followed and in 2010 I witnessed my first match of the mighty Port Vale at Vale Park in Burslem.
I've been hooked ever since.
Fast forward a few generations and here I am. Back in his town. Walking the streets he walked. The places he visited...
And, incredibly, the football club he ACTUALLY played for. Unknowingly, the football club I've been supporting for 15 years. Wow.
145 years since my great great grandfather played for the club's 2nd team and I am invited back to Port Vale Football Club for a match, stadium tour, and away day experience on the "fun bus".

This is one of the most wonderful stories of my life.
Thank you to Port Vale Football Club for welcoming me, offering free match tickets and a private stadium tour. And thank you to the club for helping to share this video as part of its efforts to recognize its supporters around the globe on its second annual International Fans Day!

Life long Port Vale fan here, Burslem born, schooled in Burslem, lived in Tunstall. I have travelled, and lived, extensively in Europe and North America but never lost my love for Vale. Stoke Fan here born and raised, but good on you for supporting a club that's in your blood, many modern fans don't have connections like this, most now support whichever club is winning trophies (when I was at school most kids supported the likes of Liverpool, Man Utd Etc. When they weren't even from there) its good to know that familial ties and history are still making the rounds in the game, You can't choose your football club it's in your blood and where you originate, you could have supported the biggest club winning at that time but you decided Consanguinity, massive props to you good sir.

Not a Port Vale fan (support Boro), but massive respect to anyone from overseas who supports an English side thats not in the premier league. Would have been very easy to have hopped on the band wagon like many others and picked one of premier league clubs. The football won’t be as flashy most of the time as the teams above, but at least the club means something to you and that counts a lot more than those glory hunters.

Brilliant video.I support Huddersfield town and have been to vale park at least 10 times.I remember as a 13 year old travelling on a coach on new years day .Fourth division.I think there was only about three games played that day due to bad weather and about 25 minutes to the end of the game a snowstorm arrived.Made a lot worse because Port vale won one nil😢. Huddersfield never really had good results at vale park.

Saying I've never heard of port vale, by the way, is truly disrespectful to them! They're a relatively big club.
