ive "broken pacman" before by forgetting pacman manages global npm npm packages itself and by using npm install -g, but the thing i love about arch is the fix was easy. i just deleted my entire global node_modules, and got Pacman to reinstall everything npm related. also, the first time i used linux i chose ubuntu. i also tried debian, then i hopped to popos, then i installed arch. the first time i properly installed it (like outside of a vm), i chose to keep my home directory (from popos). this meant i could transition seamlessly over. this worked fine. later i chose to just do a full "pure" arch install without any pre-existing directories. i havent distrohopped since.

I remember npm. I used to use that for Discord bot coding. It was very handy. The first thing I ever used was Pop!_OS. Then, I distro hopped a little bit. I finally settled on Debian for a while, but then just recently switched back to Arch. I had prior experience using Arch before I recently switched. One of these days, I'll actually keep a separate home partition lol. To me, pure Arch is where it's at. It's very customizable and great for the tinkerer.

By the way, I used to use Arch until an update broke it. I've been using Ubuntu

Oh yeah, Arch tends to have that effect on people. I'm sorry to hear that you had to switch, as a result. But I hope you're happy, no matter what distro you choose.

I used Mint but I needed more up to date drivers for my RX590 as I run audio through HDMI. The audio sounded all sorts of broken if I go beyond 30 hz. Switching over to the arch based Garuda Lite, which fixed it. I chose this for the Vanilla KDE experience, and it's still on the Arch branch. No complaints! Sure there's Endeavor but my current rig doesn't support it due to the lack of UEFI.

Yeah, whatever works for you for sure. Sometimes, it's better to go to something arch based for up to date drivers.

@@ImZipux I do love them all though! I had fedora on my laptop before I sold it, and have Mint on my Mini PC which is flawless there! It all depends on the use case for me!

Why would anyone use debian on the desktop lol

incredible stability, good gaming support, stays out the way, decent support, nice guis for most all system related activities, easy to install and use. It's not exciting or fun, but it is very good. Also, the xz vuln. got into arch, and debian testing, but not stable. Which validates their approach, I think.

If you want the minimum and original, Alpine Linux. It's damn small by today's standards. I would not use it for desktop, but I use it for specialised servers. I was using Ubuntu, then I had some problems with hardware drivers, and I found out AUR which had the driver, and it seemed Manjaro was very popular at that time despite its weird name, so I switched to Manjaro. Then, I realised that it contains too many things that I didn't need, so I moved to EndeavourOS. After using it for a while, I think now I can use just bare Arch, but I don't want to reinstall and reconfigure the OS's, so I will keep using it until I need to reinstall the OS. EndeavourOS is mostly the same as Arch, but the thing I most dislike is the name. So cumbersome to type that name when reporting bugs.

I've heard of Alpine Linux, but I've never used it before. The main issues I had with Ubuntu was that it always froze up on me randomly and it was corporate-owned. I recently took a look at Manjaro, and it's not bad for what it's trying to accomplish. However, I do agree that it contains too many things for my personal taste. I've always heard people recommending EndeavorOS, but I've never tried it before. It's something to try out on my to-do list on my channel.

The only thing that sucks about using Arch - is the lack of a software store and the insane complexity of installing packages.

KDE Discover, or Gnome Software fixes this issue.

Apt has broken my debial at least 10 times by now
@ImZipuxАй бұрын
Really? That's interesting. I've only had it break on me the one time.
