This reminds me of edayan puzhi, a simple chutney like thing that appa used to make. It is made using roasted small onions, roasted dry chillies, garlic, tamarind and coconut oil, and mixed with hands. Appa used to say this was the staple chutney for edayan maar or shepherds with their Kanji. Apparently he learnt it from them. Mixing them with hands made his hands burn, yet he loved to make it for us. Amma used to make us sit In a circle and gave these kanji urundais ...the hands were our plate...the edayan puzhi was placed in a banana leaf.....this was her way of managing leftovers. No fried rice...lemon rice or anything fancy...just pazham kanji and edayan puzhi

Sister I am Jayanthi from Singapore. We do cook porridge. In our house we cook fenugreek and coconut milk. Chinese call it as congee which is bit thicker. They add spring onion, fried small onion, ginger and add salt. You can get this in Malaysia too. Some congee they add shredded cooked chicken. Have a blessed day Sister.
