so you are 20-21 now, i wonder did you ever own a gamecube or a wii? if you never played mario kart double dash or mario kart wii you have no rights to say ctr is king. 2nd what game is most fun for a new player in multiplayer? or should i ask in what game you need more driving skills? yeah you idiots can win with shortcuts, but how about snes rainbow road that does not any side protection.. you take a wrong turn you fall down, there's no shortcut so it will all come down to your racing skills and if there are 2 good players maybe a lucky weapon. you know many played mario kart every day, i didn't play 6 months bought snes rainbow road and won with ease.. oh it's a new track so i need to practice? i did not play 6 months did not get any practice and whooped all there dumb candy asses that's the thing with crash, you need to practice and master your cute little shortcuts to even make a chance to win and that's the only reason mario kart games are better and the reason a 2014 game that got a deluxe version on the switch has more players online then a ctr from 2019.. numbers don't lie maybe 500.000 or less play ctr.. mario kart a few million

the thing is it's all about taking shortcuts, you maybe play 1 game every day for 1-2 years.. i don't i buy 2 new games minimum every month. so i review a game on how fun it is for everybody.. game is only for hardcore players, not fun for newcomers, not fun for casuals and people who just have less time to play games. so answer me this, why the hardcore players lose so easy on the circus track against casual players? that tells the story.. yeah you can say that track is easy, but no the reason is it doesn't have shortcuts and hardcore players are really not that good. it tells me they need shortcuts to be able to win.. they can't win with just speed and weapons

This game is so competitive and so satisfying to master. This is the most skill based racer I’ve ever played and being good enough to beat the time trial ghost feels amazing as if you can do anything. Mario Kart is fun casually but it feels more restricting and more luck based that it doesn’t really fill that competitive drive I have.

Mario Kart Wii has physics with a higher ceiling and much more experimentation than the other MKs. It was heading in the right direction. Look up WRs and shortcuts for that game, and some techniques like low tricking and delayed drifting. But it's still not like CTR at all, and it's missing many other pros CTR has, and it's kinda scuffed by the item RNG being absolutely awful at times : ( still a great game and it's my next-favorite racer after CTR.

I’m a competitive Mario kart player and the amount of respect I have for this game it’s fan base and it’s developers (beenox I mean) is incredible, I used to play a load of CTR when I was younger and have gone into play NF a few times but I do agree the learning curve is brutal! I will say that’s a minor turn off for me as I don’t want to put in the time to be able to even stand a chance online so I slowly stopped playing. so I might not entirely agree with you but but mad respect to you and your community wish you all the best!

I'm not that much older ('96) but I can tell you CTR was my childhood. Everyone in the family played it, and I mean literally everyone: uncles, aunts, cousins and everyone had a main! This game is a dream come true. Sentimental value aside though, the controls in this game are unparalleled and is essentially a fighting game in terms of technique. Linking drift boosts is so satisfying

relatable… sort of. i wouldn’t say i ‘grew up’ with MK cos i’m not an adult yet but really early this year i would ALWAYS play Mario Kart 7 on my ‘New 2DS XL’ (why did Nintendo name a console that?!) but then around May i started to get MASSIVE into Crash! i played the trilogy, Nitro-Fueled once, and a bit of Crash 4 IAT for a long time before that, but it wasn’t til earlier this year (as i said, May) that i absolutely LOVED the Crash Bandicoot Series. and with that, came a love for Crash Racing Games of course.

This game honestly deserves a final update... The devs were wonderful for giving us so much in the time that they did; but to leave it where it was left all that time ago is such a real shame. Especially with so many who'd also agree in saying that this game was the perfect Kart racer... It just needs that final fix to make it stay the perfect Kart racer for the rest of time.

I was born in 1986 i didn't own a N64 so never played MK64 but I did own a Ps1 and I loved CTR it was my favorite I even got to play CNK and CTTR, i went crazy when N. Sanity was announced and crazier with CTR NF announcement thats how much I love Crash, now we wait for "its about time"

Although I'm a little bit disappointed that they didn't fix online and didn't add cup mode, I'm beyond happy of what Beenox have created. None of us expected this HUGE amount of free content when they first announced the game. Although I still have hope for another update when they finally decide to release it for PC

Great video Lewis. I like that you pointed out some of the issues which could easily be fixed and truly make this game untouchable. In particular the learning of the advanced techniques for beginners. I really think they should add a short tutorial mode so new players can learn air braking, u turning etc instead of having to refer to online videos. I honestly think that most casual players are put off as they don't understand why others are so much faster whether it's online or on time trials. Like you said, holding blue flame can be so much fun so it would be great for everyone to experience this. And the cup modes should have been there from the start but full credit to Beenox for adding these in later. That does bring up another issue though, I recently played the day 1 version and was shocked at how bare it is compared to the current version. I hope they release a physical 'final' version at some point as this is definitely the best kart racer I've played since the original CTR.

In agreement with everything you said, it's wild to think that it could be even BETTER than it already is if the bugs were fixed and more variety was added to online play. I just picked up CTR Nitro Fueled recently after 1. becoming obsessed with the crash trilogy and universe and 2. wanting to try another kart racer because Mario kart is my favorite series ever. And I am sooo impressed with it. Mario kart is still my favorite and my preference with controls and stuff but I think this game is just as fantastic and there are many aspects of it that I wished Mario kart had. I'm really bad now but I'm excited to have another kart racer in my life to play and learn to master.

CTR, Modnation Racers and Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed are pretty much the holy trinity of the genre for me wiith Diddy Kong Racing as an honorable mention. This game was probably the best thing that came out of 2019 for me and i'm still shocked at just how much we got with it when they could've done considerably less when you look at the status quo.

I'm currently playing this game for the first time because there's a 7-day free trial on Switch. I was not expecting it to be better than Mario Kart 8, but MK8 doesn't even come close. In MK8 you can take advantage of shortcuts and drifting to come out on top, but CTR is so much more involved. Timing your drifts perfectly without running into walls, keeping your blue flame as long as possible, taking shortcuts that feel like a glitch because of how crazy they are, etc. There's just way more going on. I have 2 days left on the free trial, and I've already beaten Adventure Mode 100%, unlocked King Chicken, found all the hidden Beenox Crates, beat the Cup Races on Easy and Normal difficulty, and beat N. Tropy on most time trials (I may not unlock him in time). I don't know if I'll buy this game in the end, considering I've already gotten so much enjoyment out of it, but I'm glad I experienced this game. I wouldn't have played it otherwise, which is a shame. I grew up playing Crash Nitro Kart and the first Crash GBA game, so the nostalgia was unexpected when I found out that this game had Nitro Kart tracks and fanservice characters like the Nitro Kart bosses and Megamix. The lengths that they went to when it came to adding every single obscure character they could think of, is commendable. Nintendo could learn a thing or 2 from this game.

I disagree, sure any casual can pick up Mario Kart 8 and win against CPU. But online is a different story. You need to be very skilled at the game if you want to win online. You can't just hop into an online match and get a Blue Shell and you win. There are a lot of things you can improve on in MK8

I'm probably biased, because Crash Bandicoot was my favourite childhood game and I never really cared about Mario, but just the looks and graphical design of Crash beats Mario for me in every possible way. Cartoonish, but lively and spectacular, while Mario always reminds me of plastic. And the weapons... who wants to throw colored turtle shells around when you can have firey homing missiles, electic, unstable warp orbs and many more destructive tools to fight your way to the first place... Mario Kart is probably a great game - also the first in its category, CTR basically just copied the idea, but for me, Crash still takes the win!

We can all agree that beenox has done a splendid job! Probably the best fan service i have ever seen in a videogame and the way that a remake needs to be, and not only a upscaled version of the original like a lot of other games. Hot take: A lot of remasters I feel are a little redundant, but CTR and N. Sane trilogy (and other games like the Spyro Triogy and THPS that recently released) are perfect examples are how remaster's are done. Not only make it a new experience for veterans, but also introducing a new generation to the game.

Your best video now imho, I'm 200% with you except I was born in 1987... grew up on Atari, then Sega, then PS1 boxed with Spyro 1 and Crash 3... but CTR was and is my all-time favourite video game :) Thank you so much for all the CTR content you've bought to the public, if I was younger and fell better into KZbin/streaming tech then I would definitely be doing the same as you and contemplate still having my own channel today (I do have exciting Crash related ideas moving forward and will try keep you in the loop somehow as I am fairly sure you see some if not all my comments..). This review though is so thorough, the part about the engine swap is a REALLY great point that directly affects the replay value of CTRNF more than I realised ey? The missing "7 characters" or whatever are still important, it will still be sad if these are not bought back... but hey... halloween/October is coming up and Crash Mobile already confirmed Mr Crumb, plus as a fan pointed out the remaining characters could fit that theme 1 year on from Nina's Nightmare, at Christmas I'll officially give up on the new content bandwagon - all about fixing things and replay value (For which I'll be playing this when I'm 70 I hope).... An awesome game, no doubt, but there’s one issue that bothered me since the game been released (and haven’t been fixed): The pit shop doesn’t Allow you to buy any character or kart you want (Or the other stuff you can buy in the game), just a random featured ones. And that really sucks, it there’s a specific character you want to purchase, you’ll just have to wait until it appears randomly in the shop, instead of just be able to purchase it once you have enough money for it

Everyone talks about online issues and missed opportunities there, but the most viewed videos for crash youtubers were the time trial videos. I think what this game needs is more incentives and unlocks behind difficult tasks OTHER than time trial though. Could you imagine incentives to getting relics on the grand prix tracks? Unlocks behind getting a set amount of rings in ring rally? We have a character, a skin, a kart, 2 decals, and a set of wheels in time trial mode and literally nothing in ring rally. Also, the platinum relics could be somewhat equivalent to Velo in difficulty for the CTR and grand prix tracks (and pathetically easy for the CNK tracks), so it would be nice to add a 4th difficulty for relics just like dev times for time trial. I know some fans might think it blasphemous to have something above platinum, but even N. Sane trilogy had dev times on the relics. Maybe make dev relics and put another paint job behind that. Thevgame is amazing, but there are definitely a couple missed opportunities that would have taken very little development time realistically.

Aw man. I miss this game's life cycle. I was on holiday when it released and saw it in a Walmart. I decided to buy it at home just in case. I got it right as the grand prix started. I remember Digital N.Tropy being a flex, Life Preserver N. Trance becoming one, the early problems with online, the hype for the grand prix... Burning myself out on the first and missing most of the next two, but being reinvigorated by Spooky (best update and track imo) and sticking till the end. I miss this game.

I agree, CTR is the best kart racer imo and my favorite one ever. I try to explain to people why I love CTR so much but it's not really something I can put into words to make people understand the amount of love and appreciation I have for this game, anyone who hasn't played CTR NF is really missing out.

Sometimes I don't like playing online tbh. To bad easy, medium, and hard bots don't give atleast a little bit more wumpa coins depending on the difficulty. This game is perfect in my eyes other than that little nit pick tbh

It may be becoz of how it feels when playing it, it feels real. The jumps, drifts, boosts, power ups all feels like you are the one controlling it. I love CTR so much

@@steelbear2063 yeah I played with friends who can: - NOT drift and they are always in the back - drift a little bit and they are in the middle - who drift boost all the time and only then it’s somewhat fun for me but I still win 95% of the time I don’t mean to boast but just to prove this sad point, it’s perhaps the most fun game mechanically I ever played but it’s not good for casual friendly play unlike Mario Kart which is designed for that.

This game would be a straight 10/10 if it weren’t for all the bugs and glitches and had better QOL to support the UI and menu navigation. The content’s all there, and so is the gameplay, but it just fell short of perfect for technical reasons

Wow You're young but I feel bad for yea. For being pretty late on CTR for the ps1, all I can say it was an awesome experience when I was in the 3rd grade. Me and my friends and neighbors would play that Shit all night long on weekends. it was amazing how it brought people together to play. I'll never forget those days.

The only thing I dislike about this game is that they changed and downgraded the CNK levels by removing the anti gravity sections But I still appreciate the fact that they even included them Also they should have added CNK's adventure mode as well or maybe I am asking for too much here lol

My favorite kart racer is Mario Kart Wii, you can mod the game to add Custom Tracks, which there are 216 of, 2 of them being from CTR, Blizzard Bluff, and Cortex Castle. Even though Nintendo shut down the servers, there are fan made servers that are really good. The game is also broken in a fun type of way, and you can pull off crazy shortcuts

I wish they added a online cup mode, people could vote what cup to play then just go through all the tracks. Top 3 players get a wumpa coin bonus at the end, on top of the coins won from placing high.

I still think the controls in the original CTR is the best you get, I have a hard time to adapt to the remake version and keep missing boosts and stuff I never did before. But it is probably because I played it hundreds of hours when I grew up too and now that is hard wired making this not the same controls feel wrong
