A honest review of the Saber compact fishing rucksack showing why I'll probably make the change to a new one.

I bought it, tried it on loaded and had one trip out and it's sat in the corner ever since, tighten shoulder straps and they just slip, put cable ties to stop it slipping but not used it since, got something else. I had a previous Saber rucksack about 8-9 years ago, that was bang on, shame

Annoying because it's not a really cheap option. It's not like we paid a five from a car boot. I should've taken note of the 2 bad reviews on amazon. Tight lines Steve

Hi steve i agree the saber stuff is decent that rucksack actually looks perfect just a pity about the chest strap i must admit my angling is all wheel barrow out of van barrow to swim and all my gear is literally in my barrow in korda compaqs and other pouches its took me years to hone it down to that cheers pal great review be lucky

I'm still trying to whittle mine down pal, slowly getting there but deffo need to trim it down a bit more. Yes Saber do make some great gear but this is so uncomfortable to wear mate. Tight lines Steve

Had same problem with Thinking Anglers ruck sack.... Couldn't work out if whether or not it was me being thick, or if I'd got a duff one. Just never got on with it.. It could probably do with a waist strap to help stop it riding up to your neck...

I've not tried the thinking anglers rucksack but I doubt it was your fault. Like you said it could probably have benefited from the extra waist strap. Real shame with this saber one though as it could be a really good bag without this 1 gripe. Thanks for commenting Tight lines Steve

Check out the esp quickdraw bag Steve, I love mine it’s a very similar design to that one but I have to be honest I’ve not had to carry it that often to see if it rides up 👍

I'll have a look pal, my last 1 was an ESP it was brilliant and lasted me for donkeys years. Only really got rid of it because the stitching came apart and was a bit too big for me now. Thanks for the info Tight lines Steve

Think it may be due to your size & having a big drum chest.

I'm not sure how to take that 🤣 I'm not sure what it is although I have heard of others complaining about how high the chest strap is.

The yolk system on the bag isn’t designed for the weight you have in the compartments. Packs designed for heavier loads will have a waist belt system to deposit the load to your hips. As it is gravity will make it slide down your back as there’s nothing to hold the weight. Take a look at the Greys prodigy tackle base video on here and you’ll see the difference.

@@stuarthill8861 how much weight do you think I've got in the compartments?

It’s the total weight of the load, versus the design of the strap system. If the rucksack wants to slide down your back, it can only go up at the front, there is no waist belt to stop it. If you can only stop this happening by tightening the chest strap to the point of it being uncomfortable, even if you are carrying a relatively light weight. Then as you correctly point out in the review it makes the product unusable.

I totally agree that it's the gross weight that's pulling down on the one strap. If a manufacturer design a bag at a certain cubic measurement the bag should be able to be loaded using the said space available. In this instance a 2nd waist belt should've been incorporated into the design. The previous rucksack I had was an ESP which was bigger and had the additional waist strap. I'll stick with it for a while longer and see if I can find some sort of fix or adjustment that'll help. Thanks for taking the time out to comment. Tight lines Steve
