I love to thrift for so many reasons, but mostly because it brings me joy! Do you thrift? What do you love about thrifting?
@susanengleman1310 Жыл бұрын
I am 61 and have been thrifting with my grandmother, mother, sisters, husband and children for 56 years. I am obsessed 😊. Some of my best memories are of “treasure hunting” as my little girls called it , as my husband pulled them around in a red wagon or going to sales as my grandmother looked for books by her favorite authors that she would then share with me. Thrifting has allowed me a lovely, sophisticated home and wardrobe I could never have afforded if purchased new and I am so grateful to have enjoyed the “treasure hunt” all these years. Thank you kindred spirits.

What wonderful memories!! I love that your children called it treasure hunting - that's exactly what it is! And I agree one hundred percent - thrifting has allowed me to have things in my home and wardrobe that I would not otherwise have been able to have!

Today my husband and I visited my favorite thrift/antique shop and I am so glad we did. I am the happy owner of Johnson Bros. Friendly Village - 4 dinner plates (4.00 each) and 6 bowls ($2.00 each). Over time I will find 2 more dinner plates. I wasn't even aware of this pattern until I discovered your wonderful channel. Sisters, thank you for your creations and inspirations that you share in this space.

Oh my goodness what a great deal!! Friendly Village is a favorite of all three of us!! You have to share it for our Relatively Re-finds segment! Thank you so much for your awesome support of our channel! 🥰

Paula, this video was a loving tribute to your childhood during a simpler time spent with loved ones who were all instrumental in creating these memories. I too enjoy getting a great deal on an item but you are so right, it's more than that. Memories are deep and personal and anytime we can touch them feels like a wave of love. Your snapshots are adorable. All of your items featured are beautiful. The gifts you received were a sweet gesture and the re-fined table is unbelievable. I thrift with my daughters when we can be together and we just love it! I've watched this video twice now - it's so sweet. Thank you.

Everything is so mass produced nowadays...so I love finding beautiful, unique dishes, teacups, teapots, tins, linens, vases, silverware and trays, etc. It allows you to create a beautiful, unique home.

I enjoy the people I meet while thrifting, taking in garage sales and finding antiques at estate sales. I also love the happy memories brought back to mind as I see a dish, painting or chair ...that my grandmother, mother, aunt or elderly friend had in their home...and all the smiles, bits of wisdom or happy celebrations shared in their homes.

There is so much more to thrifting than just the good deals isn't there? That's why I love it!

What a lovely video and so well represents what thrifting brings to our lives! Thank you for saving those beautiful counted cross stitch pieces! I am a cross stitcher and I am sure many of my pieces will end up in a yard sale or a thrift store:) However if someone loves them and gives them a nice home that is perfectly alright with me.

Thank you, Arlene! I am sure your cross stitch pieces are beautiful! What a relaxing and creative hobby! So glad you enjoyed the video! It's my mission to save all the cross stitch, needlepoint, and crewel work I find in the thrift stores! LOL

One last comment: the music behind your videos is divine. Oh I recognize those melodies, pieces, very much so, and bring back memories of my mother and her own passion for classical music. I was humming and even sort of singing along this time. Loving every second of this video. It speaks to the love and emotion connection we can have to thrifted items, without being hoarders or clutter bugs. ☘️☘️☘️

I love the counted cross stitch pictures! They are near and dear to my heart! I can't bear leaving them at yard sales and thrift stores. You are absolutely right in that they take a lot of hours! Thanks for saving them! Oh gosh! I absolutely love old cookbooks! I collect them also! They are wonderful! So many good recipes and interesting information/ingredients. I love to just get one down and read it like a novel!

Hi Paula, Thank You for this Wonderful video. As you were sharing your reasons for thrifting Paula, you pulled me right into your story, as you Beautifully connected your words as a Master Storyteller would do, and I Happily hung onto your every word. 😊 Paula, as I listened to you, your words brought Happy tears to my eyes, because I too Love those found pieces that can instantly transport me back to my childhood as well. I could definitely identify with all of your reasons for thrifting, but the reason that I connected with the most, is how a piece can evoke a Sweet memory for me... it "gets me" Every time. 😊 On your Relatively Re-finds Segment, Anna's table was a Great find. WOW, it was Super Sweet of the Subscribers who sent the Wonderful gifts. 😍 Paula, this Amazing channel that You and your Sisters have created, is So Very Special to So Many of us, and I Truly look forward to your postings. Thank You to you Ladies for Always sharing, encouraging, inspiring, and uplifting So Many of us. Have a Wonderful day. Sincerely, Paula from Indianapolis

I agree with all your reasons you thrift and love all your memories and why you thrift. I love pretty things and have found so many things to enjoy over the years. Plus one wonders about the story they could tell if they could talk. My latest kick is English dishes and anything related to tea. The thrill of the thrift or some great thing you find in an antique store. Also I love to research the items I find. That’s as much fun as finding it. It must be the educator in me I guess, who loves to learn new information and knowledge. Beautiful English tea cups and saucers do that for me right now. They are works of art and mostly depict flowers and I love growing flowers in my garden. Thank you for sharing. I look forward to your blogs every week.

This is the most beautiful and heartfelt video I have ever seen. I have loved thrifting for many years and share the same reasons you do. I have my Mom’s red handled vintage potato masher and, when I use it, I remember the many bowls of mashed potatoes our family enjoyed. Nancy Drew books and the Little House books were favorites of mine, too. Thanks for sharing with us.

I owe my love of thrifting to my mother-she was a queen! When I was a newlywed, thrifting provided me with many treasures. Most of my children’s toys were purchased in thrift stores. My greatest treasure was a set of Blue and white dinnerware, and I have added to set. I use it every day, such a treasure!

I’m truly enjoying this video! The stories part is where I am right now. The set of 4 needlework pictures! Correction on them: not needle point, but rather the ultra tedious, “Counted Cross-stitch.” That woman had more energy as a mom than I did!

This was such a lovely video. I've been thrifting and buying antiques for a long time now. Like you I have a nice collection of old cookbooks and simply love finding those written notes and stains on the pages. I call thrifting "buying my past" as the items I get always remind me of things and people gone now. I will look next to your cookbook collection video. Love your channel. Thank you!

I, too, love to consider how my thrifted items might have blessed a previous owner! The framed needlework items you thrifted are cross stitched. I found a different one of broccoli, eggs and a wire whisk by the same designer on etsy for $15.00. Would love to find the patterns, which are most likely out of print. The search goes on!!! I do so enjoy all the thrifting videos from you girls!!! Elegantly done!,,,

June 1-2023 Today, I celebrate my Wedding Anniversary with the man of my dreams. Awe, what a wonderful life it has been. My husband and I have always enjoyed shopping together, whether it be Antiquing, Estate sales, FB Marketplace, or the many thrift stores in our part of the Carolinas. Like you, I never thrift without wondering what the history of a piece I am admiring could tell 'if it could only talk. I stumbled upon your channel and am so glad that I did. Thank you for reminding me why I have way too many old cookbooks, sets of china, and Grandfather clocks. I have these beautiful things because we love Days Gone By. 👩🏻🦳👨🏻🦳 Cheers
