❓❓ how do we team up to record more Hero stories?? My father is a Purple Heart vet from the Vietnam War. Shot down 3 times in a Helicopter. The stories he has should be written down and saved. Its not just because he is my father, he actually did what was needed and served his coutry well. 27.5 years and he would have gave more if there was room for a old litebird. He would have liked 30 years and full bird. But it is what it is. Thanks USMCBRAT

@@rockstar-5934when you are in the armed forces, you do not get to choose who you go to war against. You lose that right when you join up. The Russian and Chinese communists helped one side and the USA supported the side supporting democracy. The Vietnam War was going on for my entire life until I was 18. I was against the war. However, I did not blame the soldiers. I went to college with many of them when that war was officially ended. They suffered greatly as well. PTSD was rampant. My uncle was a POW at the end of the war. He spent months being tortured. So bad they said he'd never walk again. I never saw that man with a cane, crutches, or wheel chair till he was in his 70s and his health declining. He was one of the greatest role models I had in life. That said, when things get tough for me, I remember him, and I just soldier on. I can honestly continue my struggles after he endured 3 tours and being a POW. My grandfather (RIP) was a vet. Had a problem with people who had "yellow" skin but wasn't necessarily racist. Mostly just came out when he drove. A result of his upbringing and the war. He was the sweetest and largest man I've met. Cut and dry gentle giant. He taught me what kindness truly is and I'm grateful for being exposed to him what little I could be. Strength comes in many forms, but the strongest of people keep true to themselves and would rather take on hardship rather than pass it onto someone else. Just remember. Those of you who suffer silently. Those of you who don't want to burden others with your problems.... Stop. Stop doing that. I don't care if you don't know how to open up. Fckn' work on it. I know you can manage. I know you're the biggest reason why you've managed to get by. I know that it may not even be that big of a problem right now. Just don't make it so you can't open up and ask for help when you really will need it. If you clam up for 95% of your life, you won't be able to open up later in life when you'll really need to. Don't forget to care for yourself. You can't take care of others if you don't learn how to take care of yourself first. Every pillar falls down eventually.

@@Will-dn9dq Salute to your father! My Oldman isn’t like that and has at least a dozen Vietnam stories that he openly talks about no problem. He was Army Infantry, 2nd/327th in the 101st Airborne, 1970-1971. His first combat experience was similar to your dads, took contact and dropped and returned fire like everyone else, but said he emptied all his magazines in a matter of seconds and out of ammo now. It was a quick hit and run luckily with no casualties. That’s how he learned to never leave the wire without AT LEAST 10 full magazines.

No one would have anyone to trade with if the standard was did we fight 'em in the past and did torture happen. The Japanese, The Germans, The Russians, I'd bet the Italians would have had they the chance, and the Brits I'd bet came down off the high horse a couple times around the Revolution and 1812. There's always a story somewhere of someone going full send on a defenseless prisoner. Sure, sometimes it's doctrine. But if over the course of the decades, the enemy that used to make art of their cruelty, samurai swords and civilians, medical experiments for fun... If that enemy starts making great cartoons, cute little dresses, Hello Kitty, cars that last for less (though the tariffs and Chicken tax didn't help), well then we're open for business. We were birthed by the British and like them we only put out boats on the water and went to war with the world for commerce.
