I also train indoors only. Outside is for casual rides with buddies. Outside the safety factor, the best reason to train indoors is the consistency. No need to stop at stop signs, lights, perfectly map out your route, worry about hills messing up your intervals, etc.

while I love indoor training for it's efficiency if you are living in a city and are time crunched, I also dread longer workouts on the trainer. 3h zone2 is easy outside but feels like forever indoors, even when watching a movie or something. I also seem to get much less of the mental benefits when riding indoors, while long outdoor rides in good weather are just pure therapy for my mind.

Love this Lionel! I have had to train inside so much because I’m also a caregiver for my adult son with disabilities. I’ve questioned myself as to whether I was training the right way or my training was substandard because I was not training outside. I do make an effort to get outside as much as I can. Hey, at least I’m doing the thing!! Great video!

Sponsors sponsor for reason: ROI. If Lionel produces ROI via KZbin instead of race results, I can assure you the sponsors don't care. It's a new era. There are fans that actually enjoy watching the daily grind even more than race coverage. It makes the athlete more relatable. Lionel could be the first of a new generation of "professional trainers" rather than "professional racer". Still a better gig than a cubicle I can assure you.

Use it as fuel to get even stronger Lionel, there's always going to be people hatin' on your success whether it's at competitions or on all the subscribers you continue to inspire on KZbin. PTO mystery man is hinting about all the ITU elite making their way to long-course but that doesn't change the fact that you've done so much for the sport already, your story has been remarkable and the fact that you'll still be doing races well into age just adds to the experience of everyone there competing. Cheers from Oklahoma City

I noticed you u talked about heat acclimatization here too which for a triathlete in Singapore, I find it so important. I have been training for a 5k either in the late evenings or early morning but the race itself was a 8AM and on a rlly hot/humid day and I DNF’ed because I suffered from mild heat injuries

I live in Singapore too, and I only do very little Z2 training outdoor, all intensity trainings and most of the easy trainings are indoor. I think it’s far less efficient to train in the heat and humidity of Singapore, even in late evenings or early mornings….. And for IM races, I decide to only choose those cool ones lol
@zackbelcher3896 Жыл бұрын
I think high dew point is different than high heat. Arizona vs Texas/HI. Running at near 100% humidity in the morning in Texas is different than just high temp with low humidity. When you sweat doesn’t evaporate it’s brutal.

LS you’re a legend! Just something I always notice which I’m not sure you’ve probably heard it before and what the hell do I know I’m the one on the sofa watching KZbin so grain of salt and all that but I’m over in NZ and when I was having swim coaching with a girl from their national team I was having same slow swim issue as you and the main thing she taught me was to touch my arm pit before leading hand goes forward into the water (Instead of swinging the arm out wide) which smoothed my stroke and made me faster by a lot! I know ocean swimming when rough will need adjusting but I found that changed my game big time and who knows maybe you haven’t been told that by any coaches. What the hell do I know. Keep smashing it mate.

Training indoors is great if you're disciplined.. You do the work and it's more efficient.. You just go, whereas others need to see the variety of the outdoors and time is wasted just getting to the training ground, transporting yourself and the weather, etc. He used the term "Deep seated fatigue", I know it as accumulated fatigue.. Same same, but yeah, overtraining is a biatch.
