That dust port punch out idea is goddamn brilliant! You should email them these ideas.. I bet they’d take them seriously, because they seem easy enough to implement and could increase their sales even more so. Great video, and congrats on the new saw! #Jealous

Thank you! I never understood why saws had them in the back, you are guaranteeing a 90 degree turn since no one has their drop behind the blade since boards would hit I. Seems like the sides would make more sense as any 90 degree turn adds friction to you dust collection and reduces airflow.

I bought my saw stop for the safety aspect. And I keep it because how will I use it. The dust collection right underneath the blade is really nice, over the blade dust collection is really nice. Fit and finish also nice. I’m not moving mine around the shop so I did not get the wheel kit and I put my on 2 X 6 laying sideways for the perfect height. Great video keep them coming…

I’ve had the 3 hp Saw Stop for two years and I love it but I still wanted to see your video. I have to say you’re dead on with all of the positives. I originally had a Delta Unisaw that I got in the 90s so apprehension was at the top of my list when I was looking to make a change (safety being the major driver). But since I’ve gone to the Saw Stop I have never looked back. The build quality is top notch, the accuracy out of the box was dead on. The only negative that I’ve seen is that the metal compound of the table must be different in some manner because it is prone to rust. Most of my tools are/were Delta and I’ve had them since the 90s. I’ve lived in New Mexico and currently in Arizona which is obviously dry but they’ve never rusted. Within about six months of owning the Saw Stop I started to experience rust on the table top. I did discuss it with Saw Stop but they had no constructive input other than to say, “metal will rust, here’s how you clean it.” 🤦‍♂️ But beyond that I’ve never regretted buying it.

Thanks! Love it so far, broke some a bunch of plywood yesterday for a cabinet and it cut like butter and was amazing how big of a difference going from a 30”-36” table/fence made.

Hello and thank you for the helpful content. I am in the nearest of futures going to be picking up the PCS 3hp 36 fence . So I have a question on how you were able to raise the saw up to work with your outfield table. I like you have my home built MFT track saw system that is just a bit too tall as configured and I would rather not build a new one right off the bat. If push comes to shove I'll build a new table but you mentioned you were able to raise your saw up so how did you pull that off. Thank you.

I built a 3” platform that I placed inside the mobile base and then set the saw on top of that. Using 3/4” plywood and a 2x4s, then painted it black to match.

My friends and I took us a day to set up my sawstop and yes we did read the directions. That’s what they’re therefore so maybe you got a defective one or you should’ve read the directions first and as far as the quality it was great so don’t blame the sawstop if you choose not to read the directions first. And if it was damaged upon delivery, that’s with the shipping company not with the manufacturing company maybe it’s just where you live that inadequacies exist.

What are you referencing? I thought the directions were very well done and the quality was top notch. Not sure why you are getting the impression I said otherwise.

Why answer is at 4:40 safety. While safety is valid concern I really hate sawstops business model business practices. They first went on a patent spree on how to make table saw safe then used the one that would make them the most money with destroying the blade. They had an excellent working prototype and patent for another version that had reusable cartridges and would not destroy you blade but they killed it so they could make more money. There was concern about their business practices when it came out but now it seem everyone has forgot.

They also tried to sell their idea to other major table saw companies and no one took them seriously and declined their idea so they went and made their own saw. I have no knowledge on the other concept you speak of but I would assume if they didn't go with that anyone else would be able to make said safety mechanism and haven't, so not sure how viable it is. Their patent runs out soon so we will see.

Another amazing video.. Very well thought out and insightful.. There was no hot dog ran through which at first I was disappointed, however after further review I saw when that brake trips you actually have to replace the blade assembly.. So I give you a pass on that one.. ;) Keep it up man!!

That‘s the most american reason to switch to a sawstop 😅 I‘m glad to live in Germany where the very last thing I have to think about after reaching into a sawblade is how to pay for medical treatment. Great video nevertheless, I‘m bingewatching your channel since I found it two days ago.

I went from a Dewalt Jobsite saw to Sawstop 3hp 52in, wow was that a change. My only slight irritant is the jack in the mobile base. After a few months it would no longer lift and had to be adjusted again every couple of months. As mine is constantly being moved it was a real pain to get down there with a stack of hex keys and adjust it when I just wanted to make a quick cut. I think i finally got it dialed in but it was 2 years of that. Support suggested i keep fiddling with it, they weren't wrong.

I have thought that same thing for a couple years of using the Saw Stop. Saw Stop needs to do something about the height adjustment and make the saw taller...Great review......BTW just found your channel and like your content

Hahah I don’t intend on buying a bunch of other fancy tools, this was my big purchase. Safety was a big thing for me and I figured if I was going to invest in that part of it, I may as well do it right and not look back 2-3 years from now wishing I had done it different. That’s awful you lost two of your fingers! Also, Norm isn a legend. I remember watching New Yankee Workshop while other kids were watching cartoons. Was so satisfying to watch him work!

@@RingsWorkshop Hell yeah, I've seen them four times as well, two with Jeff. Awesome videos man . Your Drill press table attachment as the drill press dust solution have been my favorite two videos. I ended up building the drill press table attachment and I'm looking to build the dust solution attachment for my press as well. For the past few years I've been using a Dewalt jobsite Table Saw planted into a work table I built myself. It works very well, but cleaning it or maintenance can be tricky when you have to remove a few things. Dust Collection is one of those tricky issues you're constantly trying to fix. Because of that this video is giving me an itch to save for a SawStop, your rundown of the features have probably been more in depth than other KZbin channels that utitilize one. And as far as displaying the overall functionality of your saw I enjoyed it. I did not know they come with a Router table attachment. I cut a slot for a router station on the side of my table saw using a Rockler attachment and a custom dust hood, but that SawStop looks better designed. Awesome work. I'm glad to see your channel has grown. recording woodworking videos and editing do take ALOT of time. I'm trying to get the hang of it and I admit it is much work. Great job on your part. I'm glad I subscribed.

Does anybody have experience using a shark guard on a sawstop? I'm planning to buy a PCS as soon as I finish the $^$%#@!! epoxy paint on my basement floor, but wondered if I should keep my leftover shark guard, or get the sawstop blade guard/dust collection.

You can use a hole saw and drill out your own dust port...then modify it so it can connect to the hose. easy-peasy

@@RingsWorkshop Please, do definitely set the dust collection going... not worth testing things without. It's the PCS 3 hp? Yeah, I'd say that you'd still have to take anything over 10/4 in 2 passes. At 14/4 walnut or mahogany, my friend had to take 3 passes and swore at me when I reminded him that I recommended the 5hp for that very reason... "What do you know- you're still doing things on a jobsite saw!!" True- but I've worked in shops that had 3, 5, 7.5, 10, and 12 hp saws and anything over 8/4 will eventually need more power to cut through... that and a strong enough dust collector 😉

I use a 70s rockler/beaver tablesaw. I'm a hobbyist and I'm not trying to push out projects. I'm trying to make a few gifts a year; update my home here and there; fix my friend's sagging drawers due to failed hardware, etc. Saw stop is a pro tool trying to get sales. Respect the tool; own the tool. Respect electricity, don't get electrocuted. Respect speed, don't crash & burn. My tablesaw is older than me.

I’m sure some did, but not all. It was the saw I wanted all along, them agreeing to a sponsorship just allowed me to get it sooner than later. Another example is once Wood Whsiperer’s sponsorship with PowerMatic expired he switched over instantly and sold off his PowerMatic.

Having a hard time understanding why you tout the safety features of the saw as being so important to you, yet you make repeated cuts without the guard in place. What is the reasoning for removing an important safety device, especially as you say "that's the number one reason you invested in a sawstop"?

Because I find them being more in the way and boards catching on them at times, and narrow pieces I cannot cut with a push stick and the guard in place. I’ve removed it on every saw I’ve had, as do a lot of people. Safety is extremely important, but I consider the board I’m pushing doing what I expect it to do being more safe than questioning if it is going to get caught on something and possibly having to react or adjust unexpected. I keep the riving knife in place to avoid kick back, if I feel my hands are getting too close I use a push stick.

Well honestly I don't watch TV because my free time is on youtube on channels like yours. This is way better tham anything on TV so thanks for you content man. I really want to buy a small sawstop but is really hard to get one here in Puerto Rico. However I heard that their patent expired this year like in november 2021 so I hope that by 2022 other brands adapt the security feature and I can get another brand that is available in my island with the safety of a sawstop.

I’ll acknowledge SawStop is a quality saw, but I’ll never buy one for 2 reasons: it’s ridiculously overpriced and I’ll never forgive them for trying to force the entire table saw industry to adopt its safety features through regulation. SawStop almost single-handedly destroyed the availability of low cost table saws for homeowners, hobbyists and weekend warriors. I’ll never buy one of their saws because of it

I respect anyone’s decisions on why they don’t purchase a certain brand for their own reasons. I also thought it was over priced until I researched them a lot more and once I received it and put it together I no longer thought that at all, well worth every cent even at full retail imo. I’ve heard so many different versions on how the history went down of the patent that I won’t comment on that as I really don’t have an opinion on it.
