I'm also an ambulatory wheelchair user. Back in 2006 I had my first of five strokes. With each one my walking got worse. For the last 2.5 years I have been using a walker to walk. I had a manual wheelchair prior to my last stroke. The only time I used it was when I visited my boys at college. About 1.5 years ago my Dr got me an electric wheelchair and it changed my life. Walking with a walker was REALLY slow & tiring. I tried a Rollator but it kept getting away from me and the PT tech would NOT assign me one. Prior to my first stroke, I was very self reliant. It took me YEARS to get used to asking for help. I find most people are very generous in helping. I haven't had anyone give me weird advice like you had in England. Oh, BTW. My electric wheelchair is very much like yours. SORRY for the rant.

I'm an ambulatory wheelchair user in the long process of getting my first chair - manual active user rigid frame with power assist (Smart Drive). I have EDS, orthostatic intolerance (POTS without the huge HR spikes), and 11 other things b/c comorbidity is a thing. High pain day today, so nice to hear from another wheelchair user. Travelling to Europe must have been awesome - but the stairs and the man at the villa!

I use mine for basically the same reason. I also have mitochondrial disease, so I also struggle significantly with fatigue. My wheelchair is like a manual chair but it has a power add-on so I don't have to push myself and have a joystick to drive it. The good thing is that it is still pretty light like a typical manual chair so I can push it if I need to and I can lift it to get it into the trunk of a car.

This is a very important video. Nice! Me too, I have partial mobility. I think my Walker and Forearm crutches are my heroes. We don't hear nearly enough about Walkers in the news, or from med providers, on how great they are. They're fabulous, in my world, anyway. Walkers are made in all different shapes and sizes colors. Upright Walkers - regular walkers. I mean, in terms of my wheelchair, yes, hands down, I must use that when out of the house. But in the house, I would say my Walker takes about 50% of the burden off.

This is EXACTLY how my issues manifest, and the exact reasons why I use a wheelchair. You explained it so well! Weirdly, people don't really understand the fatigue balancing. It's easier for me to say its just the POTS, saying I pass out when I stand up for some reason makes more sense to people than having fatigue consequences. It's a reason too, but its not the main issue. I use a lightweight manual because its what I was able to get. I really wish I had an electric, for all the same reasons as you. Unfortunately, my geneticist hasn't been able to find a specific diagnosis for me yet, so we don't have anything to petition insurance with. How does the quickie handle on snow and ice? Also, omg, both those stories made me violently snort. SO FUNNY, people are so funny XD

Fatigue balancing is the perfect term. I might use that now lol. I don't have experience in snow/ice with the quickie. But I can say it does well with traction in the rain haha!

I totally understand about the people who give you 'advice' & really mean it. Like it will stop our Mito just like that. I had a 2 month stay it hospital up in Sydney, Oz & this lovely lady had seen me about the hospital, she was holding a big cup of green stuff so stopped me for a chat. I told her what was wrong with me & she said this green drink with help me & stop the disease. She said 'here, take this one, I haven't had any yet'. I said no thank you but she was insistent so I took it with thanks. I went & had a sip & it was celery juice!! It was so terrible & I like celery itself but not the drink. LOL. It's so hard not to laugh sometimes as there is nothing wrong with our brains! 🤣

I’m so sorry you have to endure the problems using a power wheelchair like I do and being very sick. I suffer every day in pain. I first started using a wheel chair when I was 42. I actually needed it when I was 28 but I had to wait until years later for insurance to pay for it. When I used the grocery store handicap cart in my mid twenties I actually had someone tell me to get out of it because I was taking g away from an elderly senior person from using it and I didn’t need it just because I looked young. You can be young and very sick but people don’t see it that way. My significant other go to the grocery store together. I have my own power wheelchair now. When we go through the checkout line they will acknowledge my partner but the clerk wont acknowledge or say hello to me no matter how I’ve made my voice louder to say hello. Not just that clerk but everywhere. As if me being in a wheelchair makes me less of a person or they are embarrassed to engage with me In conversation thinking I might be dumb or something. Lol.

Hihi, I believe the guy from a second story was thinking about pranayamas. I checked in the B.K.S. Iyengar "Light on Yoga" book and this way of breathing is called Surya-bhedana-pranayama. I could be wrong because I'm not a yoga expert.
