Incredible amount of detail and a very fair comparison. About the only area not covered is in the lens selection available. I've heard that many of the lenses available for the Fuji system have certain issues when used for video, which is one reason I didn't go that direction a couple of years ago when I switched camera systems.

To me FUJI is a winner due to the FUJI lenses, their lenses are second to none, never mind APS-C lenses are considerably smaller and lighter. Comparing colors in a KZbin video is nonsense. FUJI is most famous for their amazing JPEG colors. As for RAW it's all about processing.

Are you sure that you removed noise reduction on Panasonic? Cause there is no noise anywhere and it seems that your subject has the waxy effect of noise reduction. If the noise reduction is off,well it blows away even the monsters of low light which are Sony's cameras a7IV. I would go with XH2S because 40 Mp are physically too much for the APS-C sensor and it makes sense that XT5 and XH2 are worse in noise and black recovery against Xh2s xt4 even xt2 has better noise performance.

While I appreciate your effort and the comparison is a truly interesting one, some things in it just didn't sit well with me. I don't mean this as criticism towards you or your work, style or intention, but there's a few (likely accidental and overlooked) mistakes I want to point out: 0) Please give a vocal disclaimer to what lenses you use on each system. Those influence AF performance as well as image quality. Without this information, some of your points could lose weight in the discussion of how the bodies compare. At least you have them in your video description, so take this as a more general hint for improvement. 1) At the section about weight you say “this one is two grams heavier” but the numbers on screen tell a completely different story. You wrote the Fuji weighs 579g and the Lumix 658g, both body only. Looking up manufacturer numbers (usually with battery included and not like here body only) this claim wouldn't be true either way. 2) Using “AF points” as a category to give check points for, that are equal in weight to other features, seems off to me nowadays. As we've seen in the past, the number of points is not correlating to the performance at all, and this shows when you give both of them a point for their good AF just a moment later. I'd have left this away and only given it as an info, not as its own category - at least it didn't affect a tally at the end. This is less of a mistake, but something I feel is weird. 3) During your AF test, you ended it with “both are better than any manual focus puller could ever do it”. While this is likely true for most, it's a snarky comment I feel that isn't true. Looking at the AF test, it's obvious that your subject wasn't particularly fast moving - which is fine and apples to apples, but also less what tracking often has to deliver. Your choice of test is valid, but I'd love to see some head turning and covering the face as those things happen and are becoming more and more crucial during work. 4) During the external video part, you say the Fuji gives “8K up to 60 frames” while your text shows 8K at 30. This is not the only time your numbers don't match what you said, and I'd either retake the scene with the right info or put a disclaimer on the screen, which of the two is not correct. It's very confusing getting mixed info multiple times throughout the whole video. 5) Same as 2) but for the Trash button. It doesn't really validate an own check mark situation for me - it's not a rateable feature to give a point to like your very good ISO test, but more of thing to be informed about. Maybe rethink the check-mark system and rather make it a "likes & dislikes" thing? 6) Lastly: It would have been nice to see your pre-amp claim be supported by test material. It's a true fact that you state, but feels a bit "thrown in" in there. Extra) The SKB cases section came in at a very weird pacing. I agree that ads in videos are a great way to get revenue, and it's totally fine you do them, but the way this one was put in here just threw me off majorly. You of course don't have to adhere to any of my “advice”, but trying to make it more obvious what the ad is about and putting it less “randomly” in there would have been great. In the end, let me make clear that I love the detailed approach you took and the little things and features you pointed out. Talking about the odd mapping for the trash button, the difference in body-detection AF or the mention of the LUT feature are all things that I think are small, yet interesting nuances between these two cameras. So please take my criticism above as an attempt to point out my impressions and as a help to be aware of the few oversights regarding the situation where your talking points didn´t match the on-screen info. Keep it up and never stop improving!

Thank you for the video, it was fun to watch. I own an Fuji xt30 ii and the new Panasonic S5 ii, so I know both systems. What I am missing in the most comparisons thees days are comparisons of photograhic features. There are many creators, that are more interested into that. For example has the Fuji a better exposure bracketing feature for HDRI creators. Or the Panasonic has more photographic formats to chose from like the X-pan 65:24 format. I could go on and on… For me I stoped to invest into Fuji lenses as they are just for Fuji. If you want to switch the system in the future, you have to sell all your gear. Therefore I prefere to buy manual full frame lenses, that I can adapt to all my gear, included fuji. Or I buy Sigma L-mount lenses for AF.

The Fuji's samples are better in terms of detail resolution. Panasonic oversharpens the image, so there is a lot of "fake detail". In the Hybrid Shooter video quality comparison you can see that X H2 4k image has much more detail that S5ii. As for ISO test, I agree with those who say that Panasonic uses aggressive noise reduction. On ISO 1600 sample we can see that Fuji has much more detail, and the grain looks natural. Lumix's image is too soft. The review is excellent, but there is an obvious difference between what we see and what we hear. I am myself prone to full frame hysteria, but I have to admit that APS-C is almost there in low light and it excells in video due to wider depth of field and higher resolution.
@DBOYNJ8
@DBOYNJ8 Жыл бұрын
Yes, unfortunately, the review is totally flawed. I also watched the Hybrid Shooter's review. S5ii isn't that much better than the XH2. Detail was better on the XH2. Noise was apparent on both. In this review, you couldn't even see a SINGLE noise on the S5ii!

Very good review of both systems. I am a big fan of both the Panasonic S system and the FX system. Where I think these systems differ is where the final audience is. The X-H2 is currently Fujifilm's top combination photography/video shooting camera, with the X-H-2s being slightly more geared to video but still very capable for photography and the X-T5 again being very similar to the X-H2 but for those wanting a more traditional feel or have smaller hands. Below that though you have the a variety of camera including the X-S10, which are smaller, cheaper and easier to carry around. With the Panasonic, you have the opposite, the S5 II is on the low end of the Panasonic line up (in theory) and at some point Panasonic will release the S1mk2 and maybe the S1h mk2, which are bigger. Personally, if I were coming into a system, I would say the Fujifilm system is more fun but as a professional, just for the ability to upgrade to the S1mk2 when it is released I would probably look at the Panasonic (I can feel my Fujifilm friends are going to burn a effigy of me).

Did you draw this conclusion based on watching a KZbin video on you computer screen ? There are indeed some older FUJI lenses which don't allow the full 40 mp resolution, other their lenses do. But you need a huge print to see it. Computer screen resolution is just too small for it.

@@TheSlantedLens good to hear they finally sorted the AF, sad though that they didn't get it right in the far superior S1 and S1R, many of us lost faith after that and went elsewhere. Fuji gives all i need for now, lens selection is great, it may not have as clean high ISO but its very very usable and better than many flagship cameras used over the past 10 years. some testers just close the blinds and shoot in piss poor light, mucky light where most would not dream of shooting and if that situation arises we would use A flash or LED light... quality of quantity and give a degree of directionality to the light and the fuji holds its own and happy to push it to 6400. lens selection and increase DOF of APSC allows a little more to play with. I would of been interested in the S5ll if they gave it a better evf but then I lost a little trust in Panasonic given their very slow lens rollout and arrogance of the DFD af system debacle

Very good test, Jay. As always, thorough and balanced. I’ve been using Fuji as a professional photographer for a number of years, but decided to go back to full frame (next to the Hasselblad). It just didn’t cut it and when you run into reliability issues, it’s an obvious choice. I’ve tried the X-H2 two months ago (our Fuji rep is a really nice guy), but I wasn’t impressed by the IQ. In fact, I compared it with an older X-T3, I still have here and I much preferred the 26MP images. Anything above ISO800, the X-T3 was cleaner. On the H2 details looked more ‘artificial’ which is probably the result of some enthousiastic raw processing. Your test shows that the IQ of a well-balanced 24MP full-frame is hard to beat at this price point. Lumix has always made excellent cameras and lenses, and now with the S5II and the new AF system, it’s a great option. By the way, the S1-range always had two AWB modes: normal and cool, whereby ‘cool’ was the more neutral one. I’m not sure whether the S5II has those options too, and if so, which ones you used?

I saw for any system go for top tier. Fuji XH2 is their top GOAT and for lumix it’s s1H and they both need autofocus and uncropped video updates. Sony is A1 - the one camera to rule them all. Canon R5 is no slouch either - it’s a force to reckon with. R5 mark ii should be around the corner. Well depends on how wide your streets are. In some neighborhoods it can get awfully wide. Absolute upgrade for canon would be full HDMI and canon Clog 2 in their cinema cameras and only the log options like a Sony. Nikon Z9 is massive but has everything if you lift weights and have great biceps or absolutely need the 58 0.95 manual beast of a lens. That’s undone. 😂

Amazing review you saved me rental cost on both cameras. For my own opinion I’m a Canon user since 1989 . But lately I’m not really happy with Canon that limit only to use RF lenses, so one reason or another I’m looking at the S5 II With 85 1.8 50 1.8 and 18 1.8 Prime lenses all this will cost me $ 1200 more then one Canon RF 85 or 50 and this lenses are excellent no questions on that department BUT ARE HEAVY. This were lumix as the advantage and after I saw the low light and iso test I will now own that system just because I can’t have any smaller 1.4 L lenses for my system that is what I need small prime. Last I will love for you to have use the 50 mm 1.4 from LUMIX because the canon 1.2 is a really a top prime , but I was impressed how well that 1.8 standard 50 did really amazing. I think Canon is making big mistake on not allowing 3 party lenses…. Also with the S5 the 3/2 crop on video for instagram is big deal to me. @@TheSlantedLens I'm not so sure about that. It still did very noticably worse, so we can say it was around an effective 18-20 MP. Is a 40 MP image being about 45% of its intended resoluition really that good? The price of the cameras are the same, so if there is no resolution advantage, its just a dreadful loss given the other benefits of full frame. I've seen plenty of 8k cinema camera footage that is an APSC crop (Ursa 12k even), so I dont expect aspc to automatically get wrecked by a full frame that's half the res.

Could you make a video on your thoughts about chatGPT and similar program and how it will help and possibly destroy your job. How it can literally finish your photograph and uploaded and create a copyright before you have even time to do it yourself and remove the watermark on your own photos. There are so many things that can be said on the topic. The client will always go with the cheaper price and the photographer will always go the easy route to produce the most photography at the highest price they can get away with. The big egg manufacturers are testing the market to see if they can get the consumer to pay $10 for a dozen eggs. If you ever have watched the movie The menu it describes how the idea of perfection is never met. The idea of the perfect photograph is never the same idea of perfection when viewed by the client Perhaps this topic will go over the heads of your typical fewer but I do think it would be an important topic to cover. It's coming regardless if the photographer has his head buried in the sand or not.
