I spoke to my therapist about alcohol and she said alcohol is often a social lubricant but when you interact with people without alcohol it might be awkward at first but it will be more authentic to you. I’ve been sober nearly a month now and I don’t miss it as much as I thought! As you said my sleep has never been better ☺️

Thank you so much for this video! I am 114 days sober today and the list of benefits I've found is endless. I am so much better without alcohol! I literally sacrifice everything when I drink, and I gain everything when I'm sober. ❤so nice to know there's so many people out there who feel the same.

It takes time. I know for me when I healed from childhood/adult trauma, I didn't desire alcohol as much. The closer I get to the Lord Jesus, the more peace & joy I feel. Don't give up. I'll pray for you! Promise.

I'm 3 months sober today. So proud of myself. Feeling great. I was tired of always overdoing it every time I drank. I just didn't have a "stop" button as soon as I took that first sip. I had no self-control. So the solution was to cut alcohol out completely. It wasn't easy for the first few weeks, but it gets better as time goes on. I don't plan on touching alcohol ever again.

One of my colleagues is also sober, and every year during our company retreat we are the two not drinking. We have truly an awesome time with the group AND we are the only two getting up early the next day to hit the gym without a struggle. We love it! The sober community is great, I agree with you!

I just came across your video. Excellent for you!! I’ve been trying real hard this past year. I’ve had a few slip ups, but when I have a period of being sober, my life is awesome!! People, even old drinking buddies, like me a lot better when sober, because it’s nearly killed me a couple times and they knew I had a serious problem. I would never wish anyone being an alcoholic, it’s a living hell, even when sober. But we’re trying again, and it needs to take this time… I don’t have many more “lives” left with it.

I’m really glad your video popped up on my feed today. I drank this past Saturday and have been feeling anxious and down from it for the past two days. I’ve been wanting to stop drinking for a while; I don’t drink everyday, but when I do drink I tend to binge which leaves me with horrible hangxiety and feeling ill. This has been the encouragement I need to start my journey again. Thank you for sharing 🤗❤️

I've never suffered from alcoholism, but I always knew it made me feel sluggish. 98% of the time when I drink I never get drunk, but regardless of whether I'm tipsy or wasted, I always circle back to three things. 1.) This wasn't worth the dehydration. 2.) This really doesn't taste that good. 3.) I'd rather have more control over myself and my wallet than do this again. Drinking makes me feel bloated. Sluggish. Dehydrated. Unmotivated. Inflamed. I have scoliosis and an injured hamstring, so any kind of inflammation is awful for my health. Aside from drinking on occasions, such as a new brewery opening up, I don't want to drink again. I like exploring this new community. I think it's time to get (mostly) sober. Thank you for this vid!

Love this. I've just entered my 4th week of being sober. It is difficult at times, as I'v had a lot of stress. I would love the chill of the first beer because it chills me out, but it never ends there 😊 and my God, my hangovers are horrific 🤢 🤮 all day laid in bed. But now I have my energy back and coping with the stress. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Good luck everyone 💪 ❤

Turned 29 several weeks ago, now 5+ years w/o a sip of alcohol. Age 23,24 and to a lesser extent 25,26 (entire mid twenties) is when I started getting super health conscious and changing my habits wanting to take care of myself Btw “sober” is probably gonna contributed to be associated with former substance use disorder - including alcoholism. “Non-Drinker”, “Teetotal/er” “Abstinent/Abstainer” doesn’t have the same connotation

thank you for this video Steph! this is exactly how I feel when I drink. I wasn't necessarily reliant on it day to day, but definitely relied on it way too much in social situations and then it became a bad habit where I spent 50% of my week drunk, 40% hungover and actually only 10% of the week feeling good! I set myself a challenge to give up alcohol for a whole year which I did from Oct 2020 - Oct 2021. Then when I came back to drinking, I did so a lot more consciously and without binge drinking. However I have had some nights recently where I've drank way too much and it just throws me off balance for days after, and to me that is just not worth it. So I'm considering giving up again, if I can't just have 1-2 drinks without getting carried away or influenced by social pressure! It's a tricky one because I'm trying to steer away from the all-or-nothing mindset but maybe that's the only way for me! Anyways again, thank you for sharing your story, I'm sure it will be a positive influence on many 🫶

Hey Natalie. Thank you for being so open and honest ❤️ I think if you’re not reliant on it, then it’s definitely worth taking some time to work out what works for you and your lifestyle long term. I know it’s hard in regard to the “all or nothing” mindset, so just keep asking yourself questions, questioning the pressure from society and as long as your decisions are always conscious and YOUR decisions then that’s ok! Go easy on yourself. Sending love always xxxx

Hey Steph. We’ve chatted before, and I’m so thankful you replied and are a very real influencer. I stopped drinking nearly 4 years now at the age of 22! I had recently finished university which I hated, I hated drinking (I did it) but I couldn’t make enough excuses to try get out of it. I hated feeling hungover, I was very introverted deep down and hated the feeling of lack of control, however I tried to be someone different for the whole three years. Now as someone sober, I have never been happier. I have never missed drinking and enjoy the time I have to myself. I feel sorry for the person I was at uni that I couldn’t be myself. Now I am very honest I don’t drink to everyone I meet, no one ever really challenges me and I never feel embarrassed. Thank you for normalising this because when I was at university I would have been so happy to see someone speaking out.

Hi Katy❤️ I hope you’re well. Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate you sharing your story. I’m sorry to hear that uni was difficult for you and I can definitely relate to a lot of your story. My advice to you is yes, look back and send your past self love, but also if you can, be grateful for those years. I have made so many mistakes throughout my life and lived inauthentically to myself because it was easier to fit in. And I think as much as you may see it as wasted years or regret it, it’s part of you and your story. You tried something you didn’t like to discover a lifestyle you love and that’s wonderful. Sometimes we have to go through down patches to really experience the beautiful highs that follow. I’m so glad you’ve found sobriety now though! And to have the confidence to do that at 22 is amazing and I hope you’re proud of yourself ❤️ sending you so much love xxxx

Thank you Steph. I’m 48 and have grown up in an environment where drinking alcohol is considered the norm. I could relate to so much of your video. I would love to quit alcohol, but I’m so scared of the backlash from my friends. I know that sounds silly, but the majority of my social life revolves around meeting friends in a pub. But I’ve simply grown out of it and absolutely hate drinking by now. I just need that confidence to face that initial backlash when I say I don’t want to drink. Your video gave me a lot of confidence to take this step. Thank you 😊

I gave up drinking a couple of months ago even though was never a alcoholic or even a heavy drinker it still definitely does something to your mind and you often don't realise it.I found myself being more anxious and grumpy last few years think drinking increases anxiety I am 100% better last couple of months alone. Love this video, Steph! I've been alcohol free for a similar amount of time as you. I was never a big drinker, I just found I wasn't gaining anything from drinking so I might as well stop. The hardest thing I found was other people's opinions and assumptions. The eyebrow raise and accompanying suggestion that I must be pregnant 🙄 Like you say though, it does get easier, other people's opinions don't matter, and I find it really empowering when I stick to my guns 🩷 Carouse sounds amazing, I'll check it out! Great video. I (finally!!!) finished Allen Carrs' book on controlling alcohol. I've been convinced. I stopped here and there in the past but this time I'm relaxed and excited about the future of not drinking. Once you see the trap that alcohol is everything will change. And for any of you reading this, who struggle with alcohol. I've been drinking in a culturally Irish fashion for 2 decades, and I completely stopped two weeks ago. I'm done. It is possible. Change your mindset. Highly recommend a BBC doc called The Wet House (here on YT) if you want to have the bejesus scared out of you for where alcohol can take people.

First 3 rounds on a night out, you may get by using cranberry+soda. But late night shot-rounds (coupled with screams and group hugs), each one of these, are the ones difficult to pass ... by late night, your good friends have already changed their personality (thanks to the many alcohol molecules in their system), and now is the time for real-test -- say NO -- join into the group-hug with your shotglass raised high... nobody cares what's in your shotglass ... the friends who do care about you, are not going to mind. And tomorrow morning, after they rise from their hangover, they will remain your friends.

May I ask how long it took for your sleep cycle to get better after becoming sober? I’m only on day 2, and that’s the part that scares me, sleep. Last night was only night #1 and my sleep was HORRIBLE. When will it get better? I am excited to stay sober so thank you for this video. I wish I had figured that out at your age. It’s mostly the socialization aspect of it for me. I just know I have to stay away from those places for a while until I feel more confident with myself to say no, and mean it. That’ll take awhile. Love these tips. ❤️❤️

Congratulations it is good to stay sober and be clear headed, females are harmed easier than males who drink, my sister died from pancreatic cancer and I am sure that is what caused her to get cancer and I still drink beer but stay away from whisky or any strong distilled spirits strait or cowboy shots or making mixed drinks with spirits... A boy I grew up around the older generation whisky heads that were functional but were total slosh heavy weekend drinkers that would go to work on time... I noticed the whisky heads started dying out pretty fast with liver and intestinal problems and heart troubles , the beer drinkers stayed much healthier unless they were obese and too much beer drinking is no excuse either because it is alcoholism as well.....

Ive been working on it and tracking for a year. Ive cut my alcohol in half but still occassionally binge. Ive decided time to quit and just cutting back wasnt enoigh. When you cut back, you really notice the impact when you binge and I guess Im just tired of that anxiety filled shame filled dayafter.

My alcoholic sister refuses to get help. She's overweight, anxious and going bald! She's not that old and she has high blood pressure. She is MISERABLE. Again she wont get any help so I had to pull away for now. She gets violent when drinking!

The first thing I noticed was your use of the word "sober", instead of "not drinking". Gold Star, Steph! KZbin is overrun with videos talking about "Not drinking", or "Quitting drinking", or "Moderating drinking". That kind of approach is the biggest roadblock to true sobriety. The majority of people posting their "Stop drinking" videos, with their fifteen minutes of "dry time", have no clue what they're talking about. They falsely believe that getting sober is an intellectual issue. It isn't. Some of the most intelligent people in the world have died drunk, because they thought they could fix a sick mind and body, with a sick mind and body. The other important aspect you mentioned, is getting to know who we are, shortcomings, character defects, and all. If I don't, can't, or won't look at my liabilities, how am I supposed to get where I want to go. Which goes back to "not drinking". People will foolishly believe that if they just "don't drink", everything will be fine. No self appraisal is needed. Right?...WRONG! I sincerely wish you all the best, as we travel the road of "Happy Destiny"! Mark

If you’re drinking them everyday, yeah perhaps not a good idea. But for special occasions there’s nothing wrong with them in moderation and we shouldn’t fear carbs x

I went to a work event one time... A colleague offered a drink, I said no thanks, I'm not drinking for the moment, to which he replied: Arent you vegan too? I said yes. He replied: So you're vegan AND you don't drink... You seem quite boring, I'll go hang out over there, and he left. Um? Sir? Lol
