I sold my 1987 Fiero GT on a Fiero Forum in a single day. Guy showed up from a neighboring state with a trailer the next day and didn't even haggle on price. I like forums as it's a community and no one wants a bad reputation who post as most are known there.

Craig - I went through the exact same thing with an 86 Grand Wagoneer several years ago and I learned my lesson. Bought it for a song, put a ton of work into it, and honestly it nearly ate me alive. Finally got done with it, and when it was time for it to go, oh how the parade of fools kept me busy day and night. I wound up loosing about 3 grand on it to just get it out of my life. That was the last time I bought something like that with the intention of reselling later. I believe that these types of vehicles appeal to a certain person these days and are best bought with the intention of keeping. They will never make another Fiero, Olds Toronado, or fill in the blank with whatever else from that era that floats your boat. Enough time goes by, and one of those countless people who thumbs up, hoots and hollers, and raves about your sweet fiero when you take it out will eventually ask you what it will take to buy it from you. I think the car needs to find the person...not the other way around. It is a niche car that has to find the right person. Personally, if I had that Fiero, I would have been sad to see it go and would have been happy to own it until the right opportunity presented itself that was mutually beneficial. Glad you finally sold it though and great story.

Fieros are so cool. I had one back in 1986, and it was not perfect but fun as hell and there are 1,001 sweet customizations. The market is pretty discerning because so many have issues. The fully custom guys want the cheap body and a few keeper panels. Not hard to find. The rest want it perfect.

I’ve had my 85 gt 4 speed for about a year now. It didn’t run when I got it and it sat for 10+ years before I bought it. It runs now but the idle bounces up and down, had to put all new brakes on it and lines, egr valve, spark plugs, battery, still runs rough and the alternator is out now. Certainly the car of endless repairs right now.

If the check engine light is on and you get code 35 then I bet that’s what the issue is..

I briefly had an '86 Fiero GT. Sold it for what I paid for it, so I lost nothing. As long as they are in decent shape, people will scoop'em up. I had to get a more "responsible" car for daily driving. The catching fire thing is fake news, only a few Iron Duke '84 Fieros had that problem, so don't let that scare people away. The only time I was "scared" to drive it, was cross country in the middle of winter, they are barely drive-able on ice and snow, without winter tires.

I sell auto parts for a living; in other words, I try to stay happy while dealing with unhappy folks because their cars are broken down... I've done this more than anything else since I started working. I have found that the Only way to enjoy my job is not allow others' feelings to affect my feelings. Yes, they Do affect my feelings, but I work at it not making my day go South. Find a way to enjoy helping others while helping yourself... Great video. I understand what you were going through! It's like back in '85 when I bought my Fiero. It was the best of times...it was the worst of times. It was a Black SE model, automatic. V6 with a sunroof...wait...did I lose you? Ok...so you started the video of the nostalgia of why you started your business, the nostalgia of what you did to this business...even showed your adorable son...yes, he IS adorable. It almost made me cry like I did watching Luke Skywalker appear on the Madolorian. And then....just like my wife that made me feel like shit for having an emotional reaction to a pop culture moment of yesteryear...your video, like Anni Skywalker, turned to the dark side and you began to berate me for wanting to connect with my past over a pop culture vehicle and made me feel bad for wanting to connect even with you. I mean, you come in to my home through the screen with all sorts of awesome videos and make me feel like I am important. Then I click like...and subscribe...just like I did with my wife...and the Fiero of yesteryear. And what have you done, sir? You have turned on me as has my wife has! ( that I also liked and subscribed to). And now, I realize, like my wife...you only want my attention for YOU, for YOUR channel, to only listen to YOU, like my wife. Jesus man...I think you could be my WIFE! I mean, almost 50,000 people have listened to THIS VIDEO and YOU...and I just listened to YOU basically tell me that you do NOT wish to listen to ME. IN closing, I jest..but there is ALWAYS a kernel of truth in jesting. Lighten up, bro. And if you do come across another Fiero GT automatic and clean like that one, let me know. I will buy it. After you show me some vids.

Great video - welcome to the used car market where you have to deal with the car buying public. I don't know why you're "crying in your soup" - it's sorta like a car mechanic who repairs one problem on a car and a new one pops up out of nowhere. It's part of that game - Murphy's Law states - whatever can go wrong will go wrong. Some cars sell themselves and others just want to stay with you forever. Love your videos - I always learn something . Stay positive and stay safe.

A Fiero is a niche car. Its like a Studebaker and only a Studebaker fanatic will want one. Remember, to a Hammer the whole world looks like a nail. In other words dont advertise to just any forum; stick w/the car club forums only. I dont know if you tried or not but the Fiero car clubs are who you shouldve marketed it through. With niche cars you have to hang out at their bbq hamburger hotdog get togethers. Plus, w/niche cars you are kindve stuck dealing w/ppl's feelings about the good ole days when they owned one, or had a friend that owned one. Next time you obtain a niche car (if there ever is a next time), test the Take Away technique. Prop it up on a ramp on your lot so everyone can see it w/shoe polish writing on the windshield, "Not For Sale: Display Only". Ppl always want what they cant have. When someone asks what you want for it simply respond, "Its not for sale, but I am a used car lot if your offer is right its yours but I really like it and dont wanna sell it". The fact it isnt for sale removes you from negotiations. Annnnndddd yes I do have a Fiero story; it all started back in 1987 when.......,

These old modern classics are a nightmare to sell at a retail dealership. Everyone wants a brand new classic. Cars of that vintage, no matter how well they have been looked after, always have faults. They are problematic and without selling someone a warranty, which they never want, because the car is so cheap, will come back to bite you. People like the idea of buying a car from their youth, and always want to tyre kick and tell you their story. The only way retailers make it work, is to specialise in classics, buy the very best with a huge markup, where they can afford to sit in them. Because these dealers specialise in them, they get real buyers. An average dealer having one classic, just gets time wasters that see something interesting on your lot.

I actually completely disagree with this video, I understand what you’re saying but I have had the opposite experience buying and selling Fieros. I’ve bought and sold 3 Pontiac Fieros in the past 9 months. I bought them all under $1,500 and sold them for $4,000. Every one of mine were over 100k miles and in worse condition then the one in your video. On the other hand I know where about 5 different Fieros are for sale locally and I guess those dealers are having similar experiences as you because those Fieros have been there between 3-6 YEARS... thank you for sharing your experience, I always find it interesting how differently some peoples experiences are to mine in selling cars, for example you said you excel in selling Tahoe’s, suburban’s, jeeps, etc. those are the ones I find hard to sell in my area and I easily sell the fun cars like Fieros. But I’m not a dealership either, I just buy and sell cars as a hobby. I install Windows for a living.

For an 80's American car there is always a market but YOU have to do the work to be sen in it. Find a forum, car club something that focuses in that type of car. I focus on C4 ( 84-96) Corvettes and the only way to get a good sale is through a forum.

Jeez! What a rant! I do kind of understand what your saying though. It's a specialty car like you said, not the boring, common every day vehicle your used to selling. Those type of cars probably don't sit on your lot for more than a week or two & that's what you've grown accustomed too. I know you probably won't care now that's it's finally sold, but members of the Fiero community, which I am one of (1987 GT) are very dedicated to the car, but we are not extremely large in numbers & like you said, there are alot for sale & we tend to be very picky when it comes to them. I am very surprised it took so long to sell though because it was such a low mileage car, it was a GT & it was black! About the only thing I can think of is that the area your lot is in does not have a large population of Fiero enthusiasts, especially since you said most of the interest came from people outside your area. One other reason probably had to do with the fact that it still had the original V6 engine. Which, I am very glad you didn't change by the way since it was a low mileage original survivor. I am a 47 year old purist, & I like my Fiero's and most cars I by to meet that criteria & to be kept & maintained the way they were born. However, alot of the younger enthusiasts are only interested in Fiero's that have been repowered, ie...the supercharged 3.8 you mentioned or even a modern LS swap. That's my guess as why you had so many internet "tire kickers" and why it took so long for someone to actually put cash in your hand. I am willing to bet the person that did finally buy it was a true enthusiast like me & not some young kid that just wanted to beat the crap out of it. I am sad to see though that you now seem to be anti Fiero & anti classic in general, but whatever makes you money I guess. Sorry for my above book by the way!

Maybe try the forums for the car, when you accidentally purchase another odd car. Ford Probe GT owner, I tried to sell it once, for a month 8 years ago. Fair price for the condition. One high school student ended up test driving it. Decided it wasn't a smart purchase. Probably right I guess. 8 years later I'm still enjoying it, maintaining it, subtle effective mods, collecting parts. Restoring some wheels now for it.

93 was the best year, they had ringers, with aluminum hoods, freak engines that would walk the rest, and the lowest stock ride height by an inch, popup headlight button, and the craziest colors. If you look for one get, one that's already KLZE swapped though. None of this perfect original car nonsense, save that for work. I've got 12k miles since I swapped, shift at 7k all of the time. Probably double the power Fiero made, only weighs 100 lbs. more which is still light. Mine's a 94 and I have a 95 parts car. Try Facebooks Probetalk page, you might be able to find someone looking to sell.

josh bishop I’ve had two iron dukes and both served me very well and had well over 200K miles still running without problems. I do agree they should not have been in a sports car but that was the 80’s. A better choice would have been the Grand National turbo 3.8 V6 which would have made the Fiero very fast. Of course the transmissions would have been the weak link in that setup.

@@chrisj197438 just like not all 2.8s were the same, not all iron dukes were the same. The iron dukes in the Fiero could put in the miles, but it couldn't handle forced induction at all. Not sure why anyone would buy a Fiero thinking they wouldn't have trouble finding the right buyer for it. Not only is it a GM, which is known to hold bad value and not be overly desirable, but the market for them is very small and you then you shrink your market even more by trying to find that guy that will pay top dollar for a low mileage version. They just aren't a car that is on your average car collectors radar yet, so it sitting for as long as it did is no surprise. The Fiero was obviously good for getting attention, which is the only reason I would ever expect a dealer to have one on the lot.

Stick to SUV's and stuff for profit and don't expect money on toy's you buy just to enjoy. If there was money in it, everyone would be buying and selling them. Like SUV's. I think you're ranting a little too much, to be honest. You should look at it as a funny life lesson learned about nostalgia and people reminiscing about their youth. Basically you ended up experiencing a fun little car and learning a few lessons about human nature. You also had a good version of this car. I had a 1984 that was a pile of sh*t but looked great. I was young and nobody in my age group knew anything about the Fiero. People thought I was rich and able to own an expensive sports car (while living in a row home in Philly, go figure). I don't know how many people saw it driving up the street and could only see the front profile so they thought it was a Ferrari coming at them. Girls loved it. I remember one party I was at and I walk outside and guys were taking turns sitting in the drivers seat with their hands on the stick shift imagining driving this "fast sports car". They just didn't know what I knew which was that it looked great but was in the shop constantly, which was a pain in the ass for a kid working part time in a supermarket. I loved that car though and would drive it aimlessly just for fun. Little did I know that GM never supported the car and didn't put out a decent model until 1997/98 and by then they decided to kill it. Ohh...mechanics HATED working on it as well. If I had a dollar for every eye roll I got when I'd yet again bring it into the shop. For what you paid for it you should have just kept it for your kid as a fun project car. In the end it was the biggest piece of junk I ever had(84's were notoriously bad) but I wouldn't trade that experience for anything. Awesome 1st car for a young guy.
