Lee, I have been in a wheelchair (old rugby injury) for 25 years now, so I can empathise with your situation. But I also want to thank you for the brutally honest way you have described and approached your own mental health challenges here. I wasn’t so honest to start off with, even with myself, and suffered because of that. I am really hoping we all get to see you riding competitively again. For myself; I have a team preparing a Subaru so I can compete in a hillclimb next year. I am determined not to be there just to make up the numbers, but we are out to win the class! Even aged 61, the competitive spirit remains!

It's tough to pin everything on a making a couple events then have to wait to heal up properly and then just miss it. A tremendous amount of pressure to be there both internally and externally but down deep you know not making theses events is the right thing to do. Now some of the pressure is off because making it is out of your hands and your just waiting to be cleared and start training and riding so you can do it properly.

I expected this news when I saw the state of the leg while you were doing commentary at NW200… which I think you are a golden addition to the commentary team… you did great 👍 The most important thing is to get yourself well, I’d have hated to see you try and rush back and cause yourself more damage… or try and ride the TT injured 🤕

I shattered my Tib / Fib racing years ago, 8 months after the original reconstruction the plates broke and I had to start again. All up I was on crutches for over a year. Don't worry about missing the racing just get healed up properly and you'll be back just as strong. It takes it out of you healing from an injury like this physically and mentally, work and home life suffers.

Lee, many moons ago I had 24 weeks in traction with a fractured femur just above the knee, and then 9 months in a full-leg caliper. Absolute pain in the arse. Keep a record of every good experience once all the framework and screws come out. It will made a great vlog. And wait until you actually run for the first time. You’ll have a grin a mile wide and all of the irritations will fade away in the rear view mirror.

Hi Lee, I can totally agree with your frustration of not being able to ride at the TT or even a motorbike. A couple of years ago, whilst doing a trackday at Cartagena, I developed a problem in my right hip. Eventually it was found to be an infection in the bone/joint and so I've had a temporary operation to remove the top of the femur and antibiotics to get rid of the infection before a total hip replacement. This has left me off work and unable to ride, both on track or road. Your KZbin channel has kept me entertained, so for now keep them coming and your head up. Your a lot younger than me, I'm 64 so many years riding ahead for you, and me!, I hope. You mate can entertain a lot of people without or as well as your riding, well done.

Sorry to hear you won't be racing the TT this year. I am sure you will still be in much demand at the race for your dulcet tones and sunny disposition. Take your time with the recovery though, that way you will only need to recover once. As for me, this last weekend was my first full weekend back riding the pushbike. 22 mile rides each day and spun up to 17 mph on the single speed for a short time. Thanks again for all the encouragement and we all will recover together! You continue to be a class act and an inspiration Lee.

Annoying as it might be, asking those around to help with the little things is a great way for them to demonstrate how much love they have for you in only the way special family and friends can. They will feel your frustration and feel frustrating there isn't even more they could do. Been that, done that when my wife got Breast cancer ( survived, thankfully). I feel for you Lee, and I saw the disappointment in your face. I spent 7 months on crutches, twice! (none load bearing) after bone grafts, because of a crash at Oulton. The crutches were thrown across the room a few times. Chin-up mucker. You`ll be back even stronger!

As much as you are absolutely heart broken you cant race what youve aimed for this year, you need to see how far youve progressed forward with everything mate! Your mental health, your mobility, your family life and home life, you can drive, you can still do nearly 5000 steps within a few hours, you still in the mixer mate!!! I know its not scratching that itch and its guttering. Youve absolutely smashed so many small goals whilst on this journey of recovery!! I cant wait to see what you achieve once youve mended as I know you will be the most focused hardest working guy to get them big goals achieved when possible. Lee, you were superb at NW200 commentary… omg when you were not commentating, we had other commentators (woman) and all she could talk about was men going to toilets before a race. … you described racing lines, performance … we need professionals like you commentating… obviously we’d rather see you ride but your radio broadcast at NW200 stood out
