Love your Videos John, I bought a Musso XLV at Christmas and have been enjoying it, I tested the Triton/Hilux at the same time but as I'm 6'5 and their cabins are tiny. I don't see how you can justify a depreciation cliff, when brands like Audi, mercs and BMW are work 50% of their value after 3 years. It's a great car , first new car I have even bought, and I'm 40 and probably had well over 40 cars in my life. So it's certainly the safest and most comfy to drive. Anyway I'm extremely happy with it. Glad it did not pay $65-$75k on a Ranger or Hilux now that's a good way to pi$$ money up against a wall. 😀

I took one for a test drive yesterday, I was very impressed, and seriously considering buying one for my business, resale is not a worry if it’s a business vehicle, it’s a tax rite off anyway, big tub, plenty comfortable and spacious, at 35k on road it’s hard to beat, specially when a new Ranger is so over priced, after 10 years non of them are worth much, the dual cab market is huge, so why wouldn’t another company want to buy them out? Good vehicles at affordable entry level, I certainly wouldn’t buy a Great Wall or LDV, cheap and gutless, I’ll take my chances on a Musso

Here's one reason why YOU SHOULD consider/buy a Ssangyong tho.... All of it's parts are made in KOREA which is most obviously not a third world country... this company is one of the few that still does that. Most manufacturers, including Kia and Hyundai have outsourced almost every component of their cars. What do you think it means to have all sorts of different components of the cars made in different countries? Think for yourself, but I'll give you a hint... it has to do with reliability. Even worse, sometimes they are assembled in third world countries directly. Before someone comes to bite at me, I am myself resident in a third world country... and I would never buy a car assembled or made here. Sure... outsourcing gives people work and that's great.... but not on my expense.

Ssangyong got it right this time, Musso is inexpensive, reliable, comfortable and built quality is on par with high end utes in the market. I bought 1 in 2019 and i was so happy with it I replaced 2 of our company utes (Foton Tunlands) with Mussos in 2020. Never had issues finding parts for service and never needed parts for anything else. I must point out that I don't do much off-roading but for long drives it is really comfortable. I previously owned a Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara and Foton Tunland, and Musso is the only one that ticks all the boxes for me and I never heard any Musso owner complain about their car. It is the most underrated ute in Australia.

I have a 2020 ELX muso which is the entry level with the long tub and leaf springs for about 8 months. It has the same power out put and Its rated to tow 3500kg and carry 1025kg combined with alot more extras than a triton which only tows 3000kg and carries less and also came with 7 year warranty, I tow 3 tonne regularly and it does a good job, it also has 4 wheel disc brakes and limited slip diff which alot of utes dont have. Its basically closer to a top of the range ute than an entry level ute. I paid $36k with tow bar tub cover, bed linner etc. The tritan equivalent doesnt have anywhere near as much (not even proper rear vents or bed linner) at a lot more cost after negotiating. All the reviews liked its drive with leaf springs over the tritan but you seem to be the only one to call it a shit box. As iv mentioned before that you dont know shit about cars and my proof is that you call every car you review a shit box.

@@geomichael1 I'm not sure the depreciation is a big issue. New 4x4 utes now start at $50,000. More like $60,000 for something like the Musso XLV ultimate. 40% depreciation of $60,000 is $24,000. Versus 50% depreciation of $40,000 Musso is $20,000. The Musso could lose 60% of value and that is still only $24,000. Difference is you didn't borrow another $20,000 to end up in the same place so you are still ahead. I think the real worry is will they be around to support it or will they pull out of all RHD markets?

Lack of dealer support makes any car a lemon, particularly now that home vehicle maintenance and repair is now near impossible to do due to the complexity of the electronics, high engineering tolerances and very long warranty periods. I had a 2012 SsangYong Actyon which I purchased as a repairable write-off. It had spent it's life at an iron ore mine and had done about 70k tough kilometres and suffered a major drop into a hole. Anyhow I completely stripped it, repaired it and had it relicenced. The car is well engineered and put together, it is a quality manufacture. What let this particular model down was the automatic transmission sometimes failing but guess where that was designed and manufactured? Australia. Yes an Australian company, SsangYong were supporting local tech manufacturing. Too bad for us, they didn't catch on. I had no problems with my Actyon, not even the transmission played up. My son needed a commercial vehicle for his business about 4 years ago, he has to drive long k's between jobs, could not afford a new car so we bought a very low K Actyon ute in near immaculate condition (popular utes the same age and ks were over double the price secondhand) He still has it and it has done well over 300k and he still does regular long trips. I drove it recently and the suspension and steering still feels like a new car, diesel engine is still quiet and smooth, manual transmission and clutch still tight. All its had in that time are tyres, water pump and belt tensioner. I'm not a trained automotive engineer but I know engineering quality when I see it. Another thing, it was physically easy to work on, simple and accessible (I have rebuilt a few cars from the ground up).

I think some on here are getting ahead of themselves. Ssangyong still outsold Fiat, Alfa and Citroen combined last month. Their sales had improved on previous months. June was actually their best month since relaunch. The trajectory is right. Much better than if it was going the other way. Yes they have some financial issues to address which is why a sales process has began to find new investors. There's talk of 4 parties so far being interested. Could be more. KDB have worked with Ssangyong and allowed them to revise loan terms. The company, at this stage, is no where near the administrators paying them a visit. With Samsung securities and Rothschild working with the company, they are in pretty good hands. At the end of the day, unless you are a mass producer like Toyota or Hyundai etc there's no guarantee that any manufacturer will stay in our market. Hell Holden was a top 10 seller here and GM pulled out completely to the surprise, I think, of many. It's one thing to pull the Holden brand (which was kind of expected) but for GM to leave all together was a different story. At least expected they would keep Chevrolet or another GM division here for presence. Point is, a lot of manufacturers are vulnerable. Even Honda's future is somewhat up in the air with the company's decision to completely downsize and reduce their dealer network here. So are we meant to just be sheep and stick to the top 5 brands for certainty? If so, that would make for a pretty dull automotive world. If anything, now is the time to get out and support the brands that you may be a fan of. And no I'm not necessarily referring to Ssangyong, although that would be great if people did. I love the brand but understand others might have a soft spot for other low volume companies. In general the auto industry is struggling at the moment. People can't complain about of a lack of diversity in our market, whilst at the same time dissing the smaller guys. I'm a fan of Ssangyong because they make great vehicles. Anyone who speaks to the contrary probably hasn't test drove or owned a new one... I'm not deterred.

My sister is looking at buying a Korando to tow a caravan... For under $40,000 you get 2000kg (braked) 750kg (unbraked), a 7 year warranty & the Ultimate spec. Everything else in this class starts at over $50,000 and you would probably need to pay more to get the same level of spec. The Korando is a really compelling option in this class and I think after the pandemic SsangYong could find a bigger market share. The other thing to take into consideration is that SsangYong is sold in India under the brand of Mahindra and that could be a market that could keep the company afloat through the pandemic. I could be wrong but I have a feeling they aren't going anywhere in the foreseeable future. Like most companies their plans are simply on hold and despite Mahindra taking ownership back in 2010 I feel like they are just getting started with the Korando (and they are also planning to release an electric version).

UK comment here. I've just bought a brand new D'max, and if there's anything I've learnt. It's buy a vehicle with a good dealer network. I'd buy a Ssangyong tomorrow. It can't be any worse than this D'max. Firstly in the UK we don't get the 3.0, we have to make do with the 1.9, so I'm sure the engine in the Ssangyong is fairly comparable. My Isuzu is hardly gutsy to say the least. Plus it's had a few issues, all basic fixes, but he dealers have made it a nightmare. It took 4 months to find out it needed a basic software update (it had a juddering sensation on the throttle. It had a bad software installed which they brought out a updated fix for)...think about that. 4 months of driving a brand new vehicle which juddered because not 1 dealer knew the fix. It just needed an update. Which Isuzu already provided. And all the screws which hold the plastic wheel arch liners in fall off, and Isuzu can't source the right ones to replace them. Their parts diagrams, which I've seen with my own eyes, quite literally don't show the right part. The dealer's can't get them. So I've had to fabricate my own...On a 2019 vehicle... All in all I love my D'max. It does great MPG and serves its purpose for work. But don't try and put other brands down. This is to everyone, not specifically this guy. VW, Toyota, Isuzu. They're all mass produced on a budget. None of hem are made to aircraft spec, because no one could ever afford them. Just buy one, even if it's a Ssangyong, and run it into the ground. Jobs a good'un

Norman, if you like it, wait to see if they survive and don't have to be scared to buy musso xl. John's prediction is self-fulfilling prophecy dependent on his listeners' obedience :) Pajero and Triton may beat musso in some aspects, but wins in other. The interior, capacity and comfort is impressive. As for depreciation, 40% of 60 is always more than 50% or even 60% of 40 thousand (top version musso xl). I'd go for it, of course if it stays alive. the potential new owner cannot be worse than m&m or Daewoo. I wish them luck because they started making very nice cars

In Britain Ssangyong is doing badly. A little bit cheaper than the competition, better than they used to be when they majored on pure ugliness, but apparently the ride isn’t great, the specification is not quite competitive, and there is terrible depreciation. I hardly ever see a new one but there were a few about a couple of years ago when a new model came out. Now the whole market is in a real mess, and with hybridisation, electrification, government regulations perpetually on the move, and people having worries for the future, it is only the companies perceived the safe that will survive. Probably. Apart from everything else they should have ditched that name yeas ago and called themselves something short and spellable.

Granted, Orstraya isn't perfect, but then, where else would you prefer to reside other than here ? Could it be Merica ? Could it be Europe ? Or, could it even be one of the Middle Eastern block, or even Ruskyland, Chinkland or somewhere else around Asia, or anywhere else for that matter. Could it even be that little paradise island tucked away out there somewhere in the Pacific ? Actually, I couldn't blame you for that one. Anyway,...if so, then I have to ask the question....why aren't you there ? I came THIS close to buying a Musso Ultimate long wheel base last month. Drives very nicely and the size of the tub is very good. I think I would have been very happy with the machine itself. You talk up the Triton but that has less features for 4 grand more. The size of the tub is important to me. I didn't know they were on the brink financially although I did wonder how long they will remain viable in Australia. In the end, I was planning to replace it in 2 short years and so in this time frame I would suffer all the worst of the depreciation. Hence I did not pull the trigger. Wish I had known the corporate situation last month because it was a close call.

Think some people are getting ahead of themselves. If you're really interested in the Musso, as I am, then I would just wait and see what happens over then next 3 months. There are 4 fairly reputable automotive companies that have expressed interest in taking up a stake. I'm not suggesting for a second that everything will work out rosy, but I do think it's premature to be riding the company off just yet. I'm going to wait and see what the outcome of the sales process is first.

He might not have been full of shit mate. They did have their best month in June since they relaunched. Still room for improvement obviously but at least the trajectory is in the right direction. Ssangyong still outsold Fiat, Alfa and Citreon combined for the month according to Vfacts. I'm still interested in the Musso. Just going to hold off a few months to see what happens with their sales process. 4 automotive giants have expressed interest. Geely, BYD, Vinfast and even Ford. Should know more about their fate in a couple of months. I'm not putting them in the grave just yet.
