This doesn't mention the severe pollution created by these cobalt mines. It's one of the biggest caveats to electric vehicles - creating an electric vehicle is one of the most polluting things you can do, and has to be offset over its lifespan. Somehow I get the feeling that Idahoans are not in a rush to screw up their backyard, especially if they're not going to see a cut of that money.

I'm an Idahoan, no one lives here. If you look at the map you would find that most land owners are on the snake river for farming.

Mixed feelings. Dad was a silver miner in Kellogg, Idaho. I still live here. It's a nasty business, always has been. They're always going to do it right this time, and it's always a lie. The jobs are good, but also deadly. The end of the cycle isn't good for anybody, including the local community which gets stuck with the mess. FWIW, Idaho is one of the FIRST places I'd think in terms of metals. One of the most diverse geological areas on planet Earth.

China has the right idea about the rise of cobalt demand from the earliest stages, but is not doing the best job treating the Congolese cobalt industry. The industry was set up too quickly and with rampant corruption between Chinese and Congolese officials, environmental concerns, exploitation and worker safety have been overlooked, again.

Why do our politicians seem to be asleep on the job year in year out especially where it comes to security of materials. While China is becoming monopolistic in many areas. They should stop thinking about Trump and do what they are paid for.

Good video, but just a note: Cobalt is not a rare earth mineral, which, in any case, are not all that rare.

Errrr, sort of. Yes, you could probably find any "rare" earth mineral you could name in a few scoops of dirt out of your backyard. Finding them in concentrations that are worth mining is a different story. You really going to take a ton or two of ore to the smelter for a few grams of Cobalt? LOL. You'd be broke in a month.

Idaho has the single largest primitive area in the US thanks to the efforts of Frank Church in the early 70s. If we didn't, all that area would have been developed by the Gates, Bezos, Hollywood, Soros types destroying Sun Valley and Jackson Hole. Wealthy outsiders come in and price the locals right out. Is that really what you want? In addition, this is Cobalt mining. The previous attempt contaminated the water table and runoff. And if you haven't looked up what old Cobalt mine look like, or where they want this one in Salmon-Challis area, you need to. The two are polar opposites. ❤KEEP IDAHO GREEN❤

Screw electric cars, we can just drive petrol powered cars, much better for environment without those pollution from batteries and battery refining process.
