The concept of strategic depth is a thing of the past.. So forget about it. With missiles available with both India and Pakistan, do you really believe depth really matters. Strategic Location of Pakistan...Any land connection between India and the entire Far East with Central Asia, Europe etc. shall remain impossible without taking Pakistan in the loop. With all the problems in South China Sea, CPEC will be the life line for China . It is equally important for Pakistan. India was given the assignment by USA to disrupt it by attacking Gilgit Baltistan....and you know what happened..India is now struck with China in the North...Eventually India will realize the benefits of settling its disputes with China and Pakistan and joining CPEC. With what happened in Afghanistan, can India really trust declining powers like USA and Europe..Learn from Pakistan's experiences ..India's importance to them is only because it is a big market for their products or to use it against China. Dear Mr. Gupta, after listening to you multiple times, I strongly feel like your analogy about Afghanistan is made with facts observed from 35000 ft above the ground. When you talk about the Cold War between USSR and America in Afghanistan, you completely forget Afghans. Invasion of Russia into Afghanistan deny them the freedom of religion. Taking that advantage America collaborated with Pakistan to Arm them with American weapons and Pakistani Islam. Which helped them win the battle. During this 20years of American rule Afghans have tasted the freedom and advantages of democracy. Now they will fight with Talibans to establish democracy which America had understand. Now the Afghans minus American minus investments and support will build a free and democratic Afghanistan.

Sir, with due respect, there is one contradiction I have with your today's presentation....I don't think its a defeat for USA in Afghanistan this time, rather its a game they started long back when Mullah Baradar was released in 2018...I believe USA wanted to leave from Afghanistan asap (which escalated by Corona) to focus on something else which strategically more important to them (which we all know) and they wanted an exit without much bloodshed (which we saw)...also, with this exit I foresee a cloud of something big is coming in next 5- 7 years

While talking about the Indian coastline, don't forget that Pakistan has a 900+ km coastline naturally linked to the Persian gulf with higher trade volumes every year. It also has a better proximity to the evolving African peninsula. So it has been in Pakistan's interest, over the past decade, to work for peace with India and focus on the economy. However the Hindutva ideology and a strange Hindu superiority-complex engulfing India has ruined Indian policies globally. Pakistan, as a well-connected developing country, will be developing as fast, if not faster, in the coming decades!

@Shekhar ji, I think you are wrong on couple of points: 1. China has huge economic interest In Afghanistan. Afghanistan sits on 1T$ of natural resources like nickel. China will not miss this chance. 2. US will again bonhomie with Pakistan. It’s ruled by liberals who are much friendlier with Pakistan. And they WILL play into Pakistani hands. India has a tough choice. I do not agree with your comments on Steve Cohen either. Pakistan may become a darling of an incompetent Biden administration and that will make them to experiment on the Eastern border. India has to become stronger. No other choice

Agree fully that the force that controls the sea lanes through Indian Ocean cannot be wished away. I have seen a document from British Indian Administration to IndianOffice in UK asking it to allocate more funds for a fledgling Indian Navy because of strategic value of dominating Indian Ocean!

i wholeheartedly AGREE...India shud now embark on a mission to be a 200 ship navy in IOR with 30+ submarines atleast in the next 10 - 15 years...chinese navy is huge but just like their air force...a bulk of their vessels are old and not decommissioned...fortify the andamans...we must have atleast 3 carrier battle groups...invest hugely in hypersonic and DEWs...
