In this video we will understand why indian railways does not implement ticket gates like we see in metro stations, Indian railways Looses lots of Money because of ticketless travellers buy automatic ticket checking gates can solve the problem. but it isnt still implemented
Indian Railways'Central Railway zone will be installing flap-based gates for automatic entry into the station at Mumbai division's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus ( non-suburban passenger entry) by using QR code tickets.
Traveling by railway can be a fun and easy way to see the sights of India. This video will show you how to travel without buying a ticket, using Ticket Gates and Metro Ticlet gates. We'll also explain how Indian railways works without the need for a ticket!

@@ig_phoenix_ how will you impose that on Rural/Uncivilized/Tapori people? Metros are used by middle & higher income class people who are majorly civilized. They won't hurl Abuses of Mothers Sisters and Fight with Security Staff unlike those Uncivilized people.

Infrastructure is hardly an issue. Even if you install such gates at small stations, how many people would be using it. The ticketing revenue potential form smaller stations would be smaller than the cost of such gates. Even in Europe where they have money, they don't install such gates at small stations.

@@mukundan89 to implement this they need only two gateway...one for going inside of the station and one for going out. And this is almost impossible to do as many people uses railway bridges to cross the rail tracks (atleast in my area). Also there's some dedicated coaches for loads (milkmen use them to transport milk to the nearby metro city). Without solving these infrastructure problems no matter whatever u try it's impossible.

Forget automatic gates, even ticket checkers don’t do their job properly. I was in a train yesterday, the ticket checker called my seat number and name. I just repeated the name to him and he didn’t even ask for my ticket or ID. Someone else sitting on that seat could have repeated my name and enjoyed the journey. The easiest solution is there should be QR code on every ticket which MUST be scanned by TC inside the train using a device.

What I feel over here is that this can be implemented in the local trains which run across Mumbai, Kolkata & other cities in India. Especially in Mumbai, It is much more easier to do. The stations over the complete local network are in dire need for a redevelopment. this is the perfect opportunity to do this project along side, station redesign can be taken up. dedicate 4 - 6 tracks from only local and the express and other trains can use the other platforms and track. If the question arises for what about the passengers who aren't going in the local what can be done for them is that they can be only allowed inside the station from one entrance. For example in Borivali, Andheri and Bandra stations, only maybe use either east or west side for express trains. In this way even more security can be implemented.

Problem is that, those stations within the local train network, also have stoppage for inter-city and inter-state trains too

@@surajitmondal823 i suggested a solution for that too! Have seperate entrances for express trains! Like the east side in borivali! And for platforms, have dedicated platforms for only express trains! The stations are big enough for handling something like that

This is case in US and Europe also. All interstate (inter country) stations are designed for open entry and exit. Only metros and subways have entry exit ticketing checker design. Even in US, inter city train stations are open to any one, and passengers without tickets can also enter any trains. It is up to the train conductors to check, catch and fine them. This cannot be changed.

The US is a horrible example for passenger trains. Hardly anyone uses them as they are mostly useless outside the North East corridor. They even have an airport style check in system for their trains which makes boarding the train, a needlessly stressful exercise. In continental Europe, people have integrated ticketing systems (especially in Switzerland) which almost completely eliminates the risk of ticketless travelers. (Plus, they are civilised and educated people with personality integrity; unlike our people). The UK has those gates on many of their stations (yes, even stations in small villages and towns). This can definitely be done here as well.

You don't need ticket checking in all stations. You just have to make important towns such as junction stations and city station like metro ticketing. These places people come to work. When they realise that they can't move without ticket they will buy tickets. That will reduce the problems to an extent.

another issue you missed is....ppl traveling in the train do not come alone, they come with at least 2-3 ppl seeing them off....so the entry barrier for those who're just there to see off their known ones will be a huge challenge. Maybe in the future when railways infra is more digitized with IOT adoption, one way to resolve this issue could be on the lines of how Metros work but with allowing friends and family to use the platform at least - 1. Have the option to book a ticket in real-time when boarding it instead of pre-booking, this has its own challenges, like increasing the frequency of trains from one location to another and having some sort of digital board on each coach to showcase the vacancy. 2. Have a card that gets scanned at station entry and deducts the platform charge. 2. Use the same card to scan within the coach of a train when boarding it, or else the gates won't open. 3. Money will be deducted when leaving the train at the destination station. 4. If you boarded the train then your platform charges will be waived off else they'll stay. 5. Very imp - make it voluntary fr ppl to follow either the traditional way or the card scanning way, eventually the day when ppl become aware enough of the seamless way of traveling through complete digitization, the traditional mode of the booking will automatically reduce and cease.

Indian Railway can follow Australian Ticket checking system. Here only major stations have gates whereas small station only have multiple standing tap mechine.

Kyunki kai baar logon ke liye kuch decision galat rehta hai, jisse log pareshan hote hai, yeh ho gaya government ke taraf se problem aur hum citizens me koi bhi civic sense hai hi nahi. TC should be given a contract for bogies and commission on each non-ticket traveller, like conductor of local buses. Ticket less travel will only stop if TCs earn more than salary by catching people through commission.

It is only possible in long distance trains. In Mumbai local train, they can't even move an inch inside train. So, they are kept outside trains on platform to check.

@@parth4427 for that they use to call passengers 4-5hrs before the journey despite the less travellers coz of covid and the inconvenience was beyond bearable. For this to happen firstly we need large spaces to avoid the crowd up

​@@shrin210 How about employing them alongside ticket gates. People have a way of sneaking in despite the preventive measures. The TCs would be able to stop such trespassers. Additionally, their duties could be expanded to crowd control and helping passengers with general things (like directions, safety procedures, etc.)

You have to first increase size of single coach, so that enough space is alloted for just customer to enter under the train and wait in the checkout line to enter and secondly if someone checkout then door wil open for intruder to still come in .

@@vishallmishraa if more train are deployed in crowded places and in peak days then I think no issue will occur in implementing this. Also only confirmed and rac passengers should be seated or waitlisted passengers upto 50-60

I remember a few times where I couldn't buy a ticket just due to the long queues in the ticket counter. If this smart card type system is implemented, it would be extremely convenient for people to travel as they won't have to line up to buy tickets. I know that online alternatives and Kiosks exist. But hey, a card is even more convenient. Just tap and go.

No need to put machine, in USA New Jersey State Transit have no machine are used. each train have multiple conductors. Ticket cap be purchased on mobile app or on vending machine located on platform. Ticket only check in trains only. No checking on platform or at the gate of railways stations. Conductors have scanning machine and each ticket or monthly pass have different bar codes. Between same stations each day new barcode generated & each ticket have different Barcodes.

i think gov should make a card which will register ticket information(like departure location , destination , train no. , seat no. , boggy no. etc) and special station code during buying ticket and after passing at departure location the ticket data will be checked and gate will be opened after checking information and ticket is erased from card and also tc will be given machines which will sow information to tc to prevent iappropriate seat aquasition

The simple answer to this would be that this system is not cost efficient for such a big system like national railways. Even most European nations do not have ticket controlled gates at many stations. That's simply because of the enormous cost needed to build such infrastructure. In small stations with only a few travelers this would clearly be inefficient. Having said that , even if we have automated gates at a only major stations, this will persuade a lot of people to avoid ticket less travel and add to loads of revenue. PowerTrain mentioned in the video that having a uniform ticketing style could be an issue, but the railways is already working on it. We have app like UTS for ticketing. It just needs a big push to make it popular.

The only thing Govt can do is to drastically increase the number of Ticket Checking & Fine impositions. This will create fear among people without tickets then they'll buy tickets automatically in fear of getting caught.

Kai Legacy European Railway Stations ka infrastructure bhi Indian Railway Stations jaisa hi hai....that's not entire problem. A Simple & Economically prudent (but unpopular) solution will be to discontinue UNRESERVED & WAITLIST onboarding i.e. remove General Class & Waitlist (in Sleeper Class) altogether. Only allow RESERVED & CONFIRMED onboarding (like in AC Coaches & Premium Trains). Similar system operates in many Developed Countries. This will even remove the need for an army of T.C.s & T.T.s altogether, as given the high passenger volume in our trains, most of the seats will be booked most of the time & there'll be no point onboarding the train without a ticket unless one wants to get fined 😅😁 P.S: > for Short Distance (~ 25 - 50 Km) UNRESERVED mass commuting, we already have Metros coming up & expanding in many cities > For Intermediate Distance (~100 - 150 Kms) UNRESERVED mass commuting, we are introducing RRTS Service which can be designed like Metro/Airport given its a completely Greenfield project.

I don't think we need automatic ticket checking in mainline railway routes. Even in a lot of European countries they don't have Automatic ticketing. In suburban railway networks it will be definitely good but for the whole national network we don't need automatic ticketing.

Even in the UK, only major railway junctions/terminals have ticket gates. Most suburban/rural stations don't have such machines, but some have automated machines for buying tickets. Some don't even have those miachines (or staff) so you have to buy tickets either in advance or in the train.

First we need to make separate entry and exit. Make entry points first so nobody can enter railway platforms without tickets. Exists can be build slowly with proper current time data transfer system till then we can keep TC in exit and check tickets

According to me, i have a one idea the idea is that government should hire more TT employees and deploy in Every train upto 5 to 10 TT in each train and divide it according to the situation of the passanger. May be it work and offcourse do advertisement that without ticket entry is prohibited.

One way for it is individual logo ke QR code create kare, which will be connected to UPI and Adhar Card. And at every station entry and exit pe scanner de, so point 1 to 2 ka travelling calculate hoke automatically paise bank account se deduct hoge. It'll be kind of similar to card, but easily accessible to even people who forgot cards with help of phones.

just as he mentioned the railway system is a hundred and fifty years old and that time priority was not being inclusive....... today also the design is slowly becoming more inclusive with the coming of the LHB coaches..

different types of trains, maalgaadi, passenger, local sab same track and platform use kar rahe hain. sab thode alag dimensions ke hone ki wajah se apne passenger coaches ke liye optimal nahi hai.

Sub Urban & Urban areas need full metro coverage. & satellite cities need Either RRTS or Vande Bharat Metro. Simple solution.

I don’t think all of these are an issue Let me explain Railways is not low on fund today it’s redeveloping 1275 stations and this also addresses the “change in system “ problem wherr system in railways has already changed a lot… plus when it came to political problems metro also could have been political in fact kore so cuz metro is for shorter distance travelling and should be more convinient but it isn’t a political problem and again as stations redevelop we will have separate arrival and departures which can be later monetised plus TCs will llnot lose jobs as other countries who have such system yet has TCs the point is to reduce ticketless travellers and earn form tickets not from job cuts…. Small rural stations will not have such systems so TCs will have to be appointed( same happens around the world) . I think railways is just waiting to upgrade it’s major stations before they put such system in place and the Mumbai implementation of such gates were a pilot project to check the shortcomings and problems faced so yhey can apply it accordingly.

This is also important to decongest our new redeveloped stations cuz until now stations were a broken down back part of city and when redvelopment occurs and railways are not able to manage crowd inside the bigger stations all homeless people will have a five star hotel to live in sonthey will flock in so railways have to find a method anyways just like CISF deployment on airport gates to manage such issues.

#askpt why don't we use a ticket checking system like in Russia and all where a ticket and ID checker person stands on every gate of train coach it can be an easy and simple solution. Btw it's quite common in many countries like Russia, Mongolia etc. Also we don't have a shortage of people and also it will create jobs too.

Mere backend infrastructure required in terms of hardware and software is massive. Millions of people use railways everyday all across the country. So maintaining correctness of system at very low latency is really big challenge, especially in rural areas.

There is no other option other than privatisation of Indian railways at some level for investments...The govt. Will also have to take loans...If we can solve this ticket checking problem and the frequency of trains..stop delaying everytime, railway will become profitable...

what I think is, the gov. should at least provide ticket checking machines in large platforms like in Howrah and Sealdah in West Bengal. Because people need to get in that places more often and they will automatically buy tickets. This will also help in reducing the costs as every platform does not need to have those machines.

My idea is to charge a 2% (for example) railway surcharge tax. And make basic local travel free for everyone after that. It will not only generate steady revenue, but will also save crores of rupees in salaries/wages. Haven't even talked about the crores of rupees it will save in terms of time value, which people waste everyday standing in a line to buy tickets. Additional charges for AC, first class and strict checking should be done only in these coaches. It may be a harsh move for short term, but in the long term, will work out pretty well, I believe.

Ticketing gates should be implemented in all major terminus, and local train networks of Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai slowly to minimize the loss. Dont need Ticketing systems in rest of the country

Yes, there are different types of trains. So software shall be created in such way. If a Shatabdi train arrives, the gates will be accepting Shatabdi tickets only. There will be polices to make sure everyone exits from that platform. When everyone exits, the software will change for the next train on that platform ; express or superfast. Also, the duration of platform tickets will be 2 hours only in the terminal stations. Except all terminal stations, the duration of platform tickets will be only 20 minutes. Also, platform tickets will be mentioning train no. and train name, not necessarily the platform number. I think my idea is good for implementing these ticket checking machines.

Also, I guess almost all the people would start buying tickets if it is made in Metro format which means there's no collection of fines, which probably would reduce the revenue from fines.

Rather simple solution is to increase the no. of the ticket checker provide jobs to the unemployed 🤷🏻‍♂️ Employment issue bhi thoda resolve hoga and maybe we see decline in corruption ( although woh toh hoga nhi but still it's a better solution than rebuilding and wasting like that )

ज़्यादातर बिना टिकट यात्री स्टेशन बिल्डिंग से बाहर जाने के बजाय ट्रैक के रास्ते भाग जाते हैं या आउटर पर जब ट्रेन धीरे होती है तभी उतरकर भाग जाते हैं इसका एक कारण ट्रेन्स में ऑटोमैटिक डोर्स का ना होना है । मेट्रो में तो एक तो ट्रैन एलिवेटेड होती है दूसरा ट्रैन के प्लेटफार्म पर आने पर ही डोर्स खुलते हैं इसलिए ट्रैन में सफर करने के लिए आप बिना टोकन AFC गेट पर नहीं कर सकते

All the ticket prices are not uniform in trains. There is second class, AC tier 3, tier 2, tier 1, Duronto, Rajdhani express. Each of these class of tickets have different pricing. That is not the case with metros. All metros have same pricing and the ticket cost only depends on distance between boarding station and deboarding station. So it can never be implemented in Indian railways.

covid was the best opportunity to do all this when trains were not run at all. And even when stations are redeveloped, they have to do redeveloped with all this in mind. This could have been done for all the main stations first and then bring it in each smaller station. Anyway, it looks like the whole issue is bureaucratic more than anything else

Railways ko saare general coach free hi kar dene chaiye aur uska paisa AC coaches ke ticket mein adjust kar dena chaiye. Jo 1000 RS de rha hai journey ke wo 1100 bhi de sakta hai. Usse jo ticket afford nhi kar sakta wo General Coach mein aaram se ja sakta hai.
