Two words: Battery Life Everyone wants the convenience of a phone that fits in your pocket. In 07 you could have all day battery life with a smaller form factor. With the more powerful phones we have now, you need a larger form factor. Plus there are other factors, but I would say the battery shapes how manufacturers design phones the most.

Apple is still right, the perfect smartphone should be reachable with a single hand. The problem is, people now use it for what it was not meant (playing games and watching videos, TV and PC were meant for that), so manufacturers have to make them bigger. Also, people perceive a larger display as better quality and tech. If you show them a 100€ 6" phone and a 500€ 4.3" one, they'll assume the 6" one is better and has better tech.

While I liked most of the video I don't feel you did justice to the pre-iPhone smartphones, they were usable and people even played games and even (gasp) sometimes watched videos on them! But they were made for a nice market, most companies were aiming their products for business users and made their devices fit what they thought the average business user wanted. What made the iPhone special was that it was not aimed at any particular market (except those who could afford it), so it was essentially a computer that could also make calls, it was an all singing all dancing computer in your pocket that was for anyone. I cannot deny though how the iPhone changed the smartphone market for the better, making it accessible for millions, and lets not forget Android users like myself too!

I dont want huge displays, lets come back to 4 inches screens from iphone SE 2016!

They need to stop it.. my first BIG phone was the note2. I thought it was great but the novelty wore off after a few months. I went to the s4 and had a couple other 5"ers until I got the 2016 se. I loved that thing and never wanted another big phone again. I held onto it for four years but eventually needed an upgrade so I went for the 2020 se. It still feels huge after a month but I know I'll get used to it. Regardless, I'd rather still have a 4". Don't think I don't use it much.. I use the hell out of my phones but I still want them to be comfortable in the pocket and ACTUALLY usable with one hand.. I see all these reviewers awkwardly stretching across the screen and saying "oh yeah, I can use it one handed!" Lol. Bullshit. Try answering a text while you're walking down the street on a 5+" device. Awkward, ain't it? I'm not into bezel-less either. They look good but just ain't comfortable to use. I use friends monstrous, all screen devices all the time and I'll take my "dated" iPhone any day. My phone isn't a fashion statement.

It's ironic because I think the 2016 iphone se looks far better than these new iphones that just look like a glorified tablet. I really like looking at the bezels and the home button. It's very aesthetic.

@@crate2819 totally agree. I was actually looking at and handling my old se the other day thinking "damn this really is an awesome phone"

@@jseden It would be amazing if they just upgraded the camera, cpu, ram on the old iphone se and sold it in 2022. I've been really happy with my iphone 2020 because I find the 4.7 inch screen to be the happy medium of a larger screen while still being able to hold it but I'd be really tempted to grab an upgraded 1st gen iphone se if they beefed up the internals. I would hold onto that iphone se as long as you can because I have a feeling one day it will be worth more money. The main reason I even went with the newer iphone se was just because I liked the better camera on the 2nd gen se but in all honesty, it's not that much of an upgrade.

@@crate2819 i intend to hang onto it. I had to upgrade because the battery was absolutely shot and the 16gb wasn't cutting it anymore... Especially when you need several gigs for a significant upgrade. However i always used a case and screen protector so it's still in 9/10 condition. Yea the 2nd gen has a better camera but I really didn't feel like It was that much of an upgrade... Mounting it to my motorcycles destroyed the ois anyway. I've got hella shaky cam now, somewhat remedied by a small magnet but it's far from perfect. I'm torn between getting it fixed and just getting a 12 mini now.

iphone 6 & iphone 8 got the perfect 4,7“ display size. one handed operation is king and it fits nicely in your pocket. the pro models were waaay too huge like whyy??! im afraid too switch to some future 5.4“ screen model even labeled as ‚mini‘... lets see

Apple changed its competitor from the Samsung S3 to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, and grew to compete. It has been chasing the Note ever since.

It seems the majority of users prefer the large phone, but there is still a sizeable minority that like a small pocketable phone. It sounds like from next year Apple will be fulfilling both those wishes with 5.3 inch display and 6.8 inch display options. I put myself very much in the smaller phone category, as I will use an iPad when I want a larger screen

6 inch screen is the perfect size. There is no going back. Battery technology needs improvement. All the other gizmos are fine but those two factors are a must for smartphones these days.

Small screens aren’t senior friendly. Although complicated usage isn’t senior friendly either. I think it’s also have to do with the use of video viewing on the go. They’re trying to turn phones into a handheld computer/camera/tv/health monitor, etc.... Phones aren’t no longer just “phones”
@RabidLeroy3 жыл бұрын
On a good note, as long as it’s under 7 inches, a bigger screen might be helpful for photos or portable movie viewing.
